Post your local dealer and I’ll recommend a couple bikes to test ride. You ride one, a Harley wagie rides the other, then you swap halfway through. Once you’re done, you thank him for his time, don’t go back in the dealer, get on your shitbike and leave.

>>
>>28111922
Harleys are probably the easiest dealer to get a test ride at. They WANT you to take a test ride at HD dealerships. None of that waiting for the brand reps to show up for special test ride days bullshit. Just have a motorcycle endorsement and not act like a spazz.

Some retard painted it silver. I also don't have the fairings.
When I test rode the bike it barely worked, the carb was just half connected and had other issues.
I've been slowly fixing it and now I got this NOS rare Polini 160cc kit that really gives a nice punch to install.
Basically if I get the frame to original color the bike is worth like 3 times of what I paid for it and that makes me want to baby the thing. Dammit!

He's right though, abs is dogshit and decreases your breaking ability if you're not a beginner. If I had abs on my xt660 I wouldn't have been able to preload and slam the brakes to avoid any accident as I have done before. There's proven videos about abs being worse if you properly brake your motorcycle.

I'll call him after work today and see what the deal is with the bike and get photos, I just looked and I don't have any pics. From what I remember, it's a base Sportster but it's basically mint since my dad does nothing but polish it. It spends all of it's time on a battery tender in the garage. So much for the custom leather jacket I had made for him.
>>
>>28112348
Why doesn't he ride it?
>>
>>28112355
Because he had a midlife crisis (I guess) and decided that he was Mr. Motorcycle Man now. He pulls the look off well because he already looked like an angry biker gang member but, he's kind of just too old and too busy to ride. He's probably been on the bike like a dozen times in 5 years.
>>
>>28112356
Did he use to ride when he was younger? And he spends time polishing the thing and doesn't even ride it?
What the heck, he's boomermaxxing
>>
>>28112358

I need opinions on this because honestly I don't know if I'm being ridiculous or not. I bought a seat from Corbin and upon recieving it, discovered that it doesn't fit the factory screw to hold the seat in place. They told me to try another screw. That's weird right? Like I paid several hundred dollars for a premium product for my specific model and they A. Didn't bother making sure the factory screw work or B. Didn't include a screw that works.

Mistook another thread for dbt, anyways.
Still trying to figure out what to do differently where I dropped my bike. Msf taught me only how to deal with speed bumps on mostly level ground, what do you do for ones that are on a steep down hill though. I stood on the pegs like usual and my front tire got air before lost control of the front. I have Only been riding for 3 months or so.
Tldr: what do you do about speedbumps on steep hills?
>>
>>28112650
Yeah that is weird but maybe theres more info somewhere else for a way to make it fit.

HD killed Buell because it didn't fit into their dealer model and the dealers bitched about them taking sales away from their high profit margin bikes.

wdym your front tire got air? if this was from going too fast - slow down. if this is from going up a 45 degree incline or some shit, you're just gotta have to lean forward a ton. msf teaches the 'stand up for bumps!' thing and is super not necessary. unless you're flying over a speed bump way faster than you should be or you're going over debris. I'll yeet over railroad tracks at 70mph and stay seated.
>>
>>28112650
sounds like not your problem. if you're not happy and they blow you off, send it back and get an ultimate seat.
>>
>>28112650
I understand where you're coming from anon, but unless its a niche/rare kind of screw, I wouldn't get too worked up over it. Screws/bolts are a dime a dozen and aftermarket manufacturers rarely include ones that fit.
I would be upset that they blew you off, but then again... its just a screw we're talking about. Stop being a wrenchlet and go find one that fits.
>>
>>28112710
Yeah. Not a possible failure. GTFO.
>>
>>28112650
Is the seat for the same model and year? I bought some gears one time, assumed they were the same through the years and found out it was 1 tooth off.

Then again, it is a screw. Make a stink about it so you can let them know and just get another screw. Or do you have to drill and tap also?

35mph about because I was trying to slow down quick then blip the throttle to go over. I didn't even notice the speed bump till it was a few feet from me because it was not marked.

>>28112778
if it's not marked at all reach out to local city to have them fix that. but that's just my first point then, you were going too fast from not seeing it. idk man I'd have to see what you did specifically and how fast it's hard to say from a description. in any case keep front brake covered and hopefully no surprise speed bumps in the future...I'm always scanning for that shit but only so much you can do if conditions are bad

drove me mad that after working on it and uninstalling the tank a couple of times the starting behaviour changed suddenly. Even took out the choke pistons because I thought they were stuck.

They dont. One thing to complain about though - the choke pistons are locked with a plastic nut that -given the space constrains and the cable - you more or less have to destroy to loosen. Thankfully there are some german Transalp boomers who machine aluminum replacements for it.
>>
>>28112846
I never liked the holes in the fairing, isn't that supposed to stop your hands getting wet.
GPZ900R was still the king at the time.
>>
So I think my starter is gunked up, seems to be spinning kinda slow and is having a hard time actually starting the bike. Going to try and clean it up before I go out and buy a new one, what would you use to clean up the internals?
>>
>>28112771
bruh you got them combat mittens but they don't have the finger phone thingy on them?
but no if you lurk you'll realize it's worse than that. it's like one anon samefagging and a couple others who come and go throughout the day. there are probably like 12 posters max.
>>
>>28112910
Start with your battery state and leads go to brake cleaner next. The only time I've ever changed a starter is because the bendix was broken.
>>
>>28112910
sure sounds like a weak battery
>>
>>28112923
>>28112929
New battery and fully charged, still spinning slow (just a no-start in general). We've been getting some awful rains and the starter is located pretty much right where rain bounces, so I'm fairly convinced that it is the issue, I've ruled out fuel and plugs at this point as well.
My only fear is that I'm going to pull it out and have it be all burned up, my starter button was sticking not too long ago and it is possible it left the motor engaged slightly while I was riding around in September. Also worth mentioning that it had been hard starting for about a month or so before all of this, so.
>>
>>28112572
Nah, I just already guessed that's where it is, because most people here are on west coast.
To be fair, there is a LOT more to do on the west coast on a bike than east coast. Florida especially, except get hit by a drunk driver and die.

My bike is fubar and needing major repairs. I wanted to fix it but I think I'm going to sell it for cheap.
But this means I will need to use something else to replace it. Something that is also non running at the moment.
But I don't even know if someone will want to buy the bike:
>broken fairings front and back
>tail light held by duct tape (broken mounts)
>headlight floating inside fairings (broken mounts)
>bent headlight support
>muffler loose (bolts broke)
>front brake line has a cut
>broken mudguard
>chain near end of life
>rear tire near end of life
>front tire already past end of life (5 years old and rubber is full of cuts)
>2nd gear sometimes jumps to neutral
>speedometer cable broken
>spots of rust
>front forks need seals and oil
>sidestand dropping off (springs already held on by clamps
A cheap working bike like this is around 1600 €
Also I'm a delivery rider so I need the bike to work. Shit sucks
>>
>>28112242
can't you just start it in second and limp it home then?

also also, don't do that on a hot day, that fucker will melt itself into the pavement quick fast and in a hurry, if you don't replace it or straighten it, get a puck like the fat cruiser fatties have or you will be sorry at some point

Damn near every aftermarket thing ive gotten for my four bikes has been modified more or less at one point, sheared bolts, vibrated off, bent to fit, retorqued for maintenance etc.
Just go buy some at a nut n bolt then buy several of the ones that fit

Tis the way of sae, metric, and other standardizations that dont accomodate fatasses for obvious reasons
