am i throwing away my money by changing my engine oil every 4k miles. Its full synth 0w-20 and owners manual calls for 10kmi intervals
>>28112809Cange it every 3 to 5 thousand miles. Never follow the recommended oci. Remeber, your car lasting longer is not in their best interest.
Read the handbook, go with the rule. I need to have a belt change soon which requires the engine out so brakes filters and fluids can wait until then.
>>28112825rule is every 10k miles nigger
>>28112809No, I change mine every 1,000 miles. cheap insurance against motor wear.
>>28112809I change my oil after every trip
>>28112875same but every 300 miles
>>28112809Honestly as long as you are not taking lots of short trips or doing hard shit to it 10k is most likely fine for any decent synthetic or one year cause it’s turn slightly acidic with age.
>>28113027Fucking what. You drive a Model T?
>>28112809I change my oil at every intersection. You can never be too safe when it comes to your engine. Oil is cheaper than a new engine!!!
>>28112809kinda, yeah. It's not the 90s anymore. Two oil changes a year works fine for me. The oil color doesn't matter (much) it's a factor of how much wear prevention is still active and how much of the dispersants and particulate capture chemicals are still doing their work. While I won't ever trust OLMs and manufac service schedules, 5-6k miles is a good sweet spot for cost and modern oil's capabilities.
>>28112809Oil is cheap. I just do 5k.>mileage + (idle_hours*30)
>>28113043My method is two a year - One for summer temps and one for winter. I don't want overly worn and thinned oil for summer heat, I don't want overly worn out for winter cold. I think once a year or worse, once in 15-20k miles is a bad idea.
>>28112816this exactly.
>>28112809have a oil test run. Blackstone and others do it for about $35.they'll tell you how many miles you can run.my Corolla for example: oil is good to 8,000mi BUT it has slight head gasket leak.so sodium starts to contaminate the oil after 5,000mi so I change at 5K.
>>28113499Changing oil doesnt compensate for physical problems. While yeah, you are helping delay it (like me driving soft helps my trans live longer) eventually that problem ends up being the source and cause of a major one.I need sparks and a TB clean at the minimum. High qual gas, some fuel cleaner every other oil change, and hot high rev burns helps it, well eventually I fucking need the sparks chamged.
>>28112809Your engine will last longer than an identical car with 10k mile oil change intervals.shrimple as that
>>28113580mt 1zzfe has had a slight head gasket leak for over 250,000 miles and has not gotten worse over 10 years And 250Kmi.and by slight I mean slight leak.oil Lab will tell ya just have the oil tested and go from there
My wife gets really shitty if I take her car for service before the sticker says it's time. 15,000km oil changes just don't sit right with me
3,000 miles for me. Which has been 3 times a year.
>>28113790for me 10k km intervals feels just right
>>28113006>He doesn't leave his oil on a slow drip with an oil drum on the back hooked up to constantly feed it fresh oil
>>28113857I've thought about actually doing this. My car burns a quart of oil every 50 miles, so I have a case in the trunk, and add a new quart every 2 or 3 days
10k km is alright but if you're doing mostly city driving then 7,5k is pretty much a must.
