How much would it cost to get the rear-seat area cut out of an ordinary hatchback? Pic related.

How does traction control work in a RWD car?
If it stops sending power to the wheel that has lost traction (or applies brakes to that wheel), then the car slows down and the weight shifts to the front... so this means you will actually lose traction even more right?
>>
>>28118093
It basically stops you spinning away power to a wheel that loses grip until traction returns. That can be side to side or front to rear but it is theoretically such a short period that you wouldn't notice unless you have really effed up and the other corners can't cope.

Do I restore my 94 mighty max 4x4 pickup and enjoy a utilitarian hilux with 200 hp stock.

Or

Do I just not invest in the money pit and sell it for 4 grand.

how in the fuck do you find cheap cars in a major metropolitan area that don't have major faults? is that even a thing you can do nowadays? i have legitimately thought about buying a one-way amtrak ticket across my state just so i can be able to afford a working automobile and then just road trip it back home.
>>
>>28119106
Sometimes that's what it takes. First car I bought was an hour away. Second car was about 2. Third car was 4. Fifth car was almost 6. If you like driving it's not a big deal, just about getting a ride there to pick it up.

Don't take a greyhound bus whatever you do though. You WILL get AIDS if you get on that bus.

Sadly there's no such thing as "good deal" anymore. About the only edge you can get is to know someone who works at a dealership and has connections to source a decent vehicle. Otherwise you're down in the pit slogging through the mud and fighting for scraps with the rest of the plebs.

Change the engine oil, filter, check tranny fluid level and make sure it's full. If it starts up and runs without issue, you should still change the tranny fluid, brake fluid, and coolant right away. Those fluids can absorb water over time and while it's not such a problem with something like coolant, it can be catastrophic for trannies and brake systems.
Check engine air filter and cabin air filters, make sure they're intact and no animals are living in them. Visually inspect belt and engine bay as a whole, make sure no stupid animals have made a nest under there or chewed through wiring looms.

Your battery will likely be dead too, so new battery.

You will want to keep a close eye on it for the first few months as some seals and lines may have dried up/cracked/shrunk, and leaks could develop as you start putting fluid through those lines again.

restore it. don't sell it. if you sell it some dipshit old mexican man will buy it and trash it as a landscaping truck. that thing will die a miserable peasant's death in some farm field loaded down with 8,000lbs of corn and 5 migrants. don't do that to it. it deserves better.

Need to know how to source parts for very specific car

I have a 2023 Chevy Onix

Prices from dealership are total bullcrap and it is basically impossible to find any local auto parts with available stock

Any tips I can get on how to get parts shipped from outside?
>>
Hypothetically, if someone was selling an LS-swapped Porsche Boxster for the price of a gently-used current gen Supra, would I still need to worry about the dreaded Boxster IMS bearing issue? Pretty sure the bearing is part of the boxer 6 engine from that gen, so any LS swap shouldn't even have one, but just wanna make sure.
>>
>>28119125
eBay is your friend. Otherwise it depends entirely on what parts you need, but you're likely going to be limited to someone domestic. The Onix isn't a global model, I think they're only in Brazil, so it's not like suppliers in America or Europe are going to have Onix parts.

Best bet is to get very familiar with your car and see what platform it shares parts with, maybe you can cross-shop parts that are interchangeable from other suppliers. I used to have a Mazda3 but I could use Ford Focus and Volvo S40 parts in it since they were mechanically identical.

>eBay is your friend
Haven't tried a lot of eBay but once I tried searching for the front bumper and found nothing of help.

>The Onix isn't a global model
Yeap that is why I said it is a very specific car, I live in latin america and I have heard it is very popular in Mexico and Uruguay and as you mention Brazil.

I know parts can be purchased from like the factory in China? (the 2023 is produced from the SAIC-GM platform of that year) it was one of the ways I was thinking but not sure how to do it.

>Best bet is to get very familiar with your car and see what platform it shares parts with

I also thought of that but I am not very car-savvy to do try parts and even think what parts could work or be similar that I can use.

Oldish gas is alright if you add new to it. I’d fill it up, dump most of a fresh quart of oil in it, WD-40 the belt and boots and try to get some around any rotating shaft seals.
>>28119106
>how
Being more specific. Have you told others what you are looking for at your price and how far you’d go to get it? You haven’t done that here. See how that other anon is doing? Someone probably knew he wanted it. Words are magic.

yes, the intermediate shaft, a part that sends rotation from the crankshaft to the ovberhead camshaft, is indeed a part of the engine, and the bearing it rols in would not be present on an LS V8 (which doesn't even have overhead camshafts).
if you don't even know that the IMS bearing is a part in the engine, maybe buying an engine swapped car isn't a great idea.
would a boxster gearbox even take the torque?

Normally it's not my style but I figure that if there's anything that's easy to find people to work on even in a strange configuration, it would be a Chevy smallblock LS.
>would a boxster gearbox even take the torque?
According to the custom shop's website it does depend on the model and trim, but as long as it's a 986 Boxster S or a 987 Cayman S, the transaxle can take the torque and horsepower:
"To increase strength, dependability, and performance, we have designed the Cayman kit around a Boxster S transaxle. The Cayman transaxle was engineered lighter with physically smaller gears and shafts, and the ratios were very short, which is not favorable or strong enough for the V-8. The Boxster S transaxle has repeatedly taken abuse over 600HP in our Boxsters, 914’s, & kit cars, and we have yet to see one fail. Even the gear ratios and optional upgrades are quite favorable to the V-8 conversion using the Boxster S 6-speed transaxle. We understand that this means you will need to source a good used Boxster S tranny from a salvage yard, but your Cayman transaxle has value equivalent to the Boxster S in many cases."

Flashing CEL indicates misfire. You'll probably be fine, but you should throw a tune up on it at some point

What kind of features did the super high-tier luxury cars of the 50s have?

I've always been fascinated by Pontiac Fieros, but I've heard mixed things about them. There's a 1987 V6 GT near me for $14k on 150,000 miles and it's had a full exterior and interior restoration, and it's a manual.

Is there a good reason I shouldn't just pull the trigger?

Not when they're confined like that and prone to overheating. Plus that would be obnoxious as fuck, you'd go deaf driving that thing.

Opt for a Toyota/Scion iQ or a Smart ForTwo. The iQ is really practical and the ForTwo is specifically fit for purpose for city Europeans.

Guy I work with is leaving where I live and offering to sell me his 97 Lexus ES300 with 136k on it for $500. No cat, title is floating (guy he bought it from signed the title transfer and he never had it transferred in the state of Hawaii where we are), and the registration/safety are slightly out of date. I know the car is good mechanically because I was the one that advised him to buy it before it expired, and I’m curious what y’all think. I’m pretty sure I can get the title transferred for the taxes owed and just a $50 late fee, but if anyone that has experienced this could weigh in that would be awesome.

Forgot to mention it also needs a new tire. Has expensive aftermarket rims

I don’t know about the 50s specifically since I’m a boomer in my 30s, but one dope thing I remember from like 70s-80s land barges was when you got ash trays and lighters in all 4 seats. The rear doors would have a little flip up lid for the ash tray near the door handles.

Power windows, AC, automatic transmissions were all luxury options early on but not sure if the 50s were before that timeline.
