In my neck of the woods, drivers think the merging vehicle has the right of way and expect the vehicles already on the freeway to move out of the way. I almost got into like 5 collisions this week because of that alone. What is it like in your area?
I have never experienced that and people tend to merge properly where I am. I HAVE however experienced pic related where the merge happens on the left side and i have no idea what to doSometimes I slow down, sometimes i speed up, sometimes im able to merge into the right lane for the car left of me to get in.
>>28118812BTW I'm the blue car, and this is a left hand drive country, its just uncommon to merge from left side but there are roads where this happens.
>>28118801Retards on the on ramps will either match my speed and sit next to me or go slow on the ramp, cut me off, and then speed up after getting on the highway. Istg I drive a car with 80hp at the wheels, nobody has any excuse to be going slower than me. I think people are afraid to put their foot to the floor on the ramp.
>>28118821Its the "le driving slow means safer" mentality even if its more dangerous... if you cant merge onto the highway confidently going 65-70 mph you dont deserve to be behind the wheel.
>>28118827It pisses me off. I try to make room for people and move over but sometimes there's a car next to me and I'm not slowing down to let someone on just because they don't know how to drive. Its just so annoying, because I know if these people revved their engines past 3000 rpm they would have zero issues merging. But they refuse to go past half throttle and then bitch online about cars being dangerously slow.
>>28118821Absolutely at a certain point these people need to ACCELERATE.I'm not slowing down 20mph just to let your clown ass on.Just go 5mph faster, ez
It's a very common occurrence. On my commute there's a spot on the 3-lane hwy with on-ramps into both the left and right lanes at the same damn time. It's chaos.Golden rule - If you want others to give you room when merging, do so for them. The merging vehicle technically does have the right of way because the lane is about to end, If you want others to give you room, do so for others.
>>28118856>The merging vehicle technically does have the right of way because the lane is about to end,They absolutely do not.
>>28118812australia? in nsw, if there's a zipper merge and the merging lane doesn't have a dotted line all the way to the very end the cars in the other lane are supposed to give way. if there's a dotted line all the way then the merging lane needs to give way. There's a road I commute on every day that used to have the former but they changed it after a few months, i think because there were too many incidents of people getting assblasted about zipper merges. most people still zipper merge properly but it seems less likely to incite seething with the dotted line all the way now. There was one incident where I merged at the very end when it had no dotted line at the end in front of a lexus that left a humungous gap, when he saw me merging he immediately tried to speed up and honked the horn lol.
>>28118856>The merging vehicle technically does have the right of way because the lane is about to endBullshit.
>>28118882No, america. Thats what makes it weird, because it's rare that there's a merge from the left side, but i encountered a couple
>>28118907ahh right. i know in my city there are a few that have merges on the other side. but there's plenty of warning and indication, and while you do get the occasional assblasted seether that stops someone from merging in, most people just default to a zipper merge when there's a lot of traffic.
>>28118856No, the merging vehicle does not have the right of way. The merging vehicle needs to accelerate to highway speeds and yield to highway traffic while merging. People on the highway giving you space is a courtesy, not a right
