So last weekend I finally joined the faggot club and bought an NB miata. It has an LSD, 6 speed and heated seats, stock bose stereo. The glass in the soft top was totally busted out when I bought it and I already ordered a new black one. I managed to talk they guy down to 3400 for the thing. How did I do?
>>
>>28165404
Most of the enbee's I see are painted in metallic paints. Really like the unusual solid red colour on this one. Will be a beauty with a new black top. I'd rather see it with 15" wheels though.

>>28165404
Absolutely awful. Just terrible. Way too much money. I'll let you sell it to me for 2500 to recoup some of your loses.

Posting my Miata. Getting ready to swap in speed bleeders and the FM steering bushing kit the day it isn't freezing outside.
>>
>>28166461
>speed bleeders
Let us know if they're any good, I've always considered them, but ultimately thought they were kind of unnecessary.
>>
>>28166461
>speed bleeders
Meem, I'd just get a vacuum pump. I literally enjoy bleeding hydraulics now.
>>
>>28166519
And recommendations?
>>
>>28166522
Cheapest vacuum pump on eBay has been serving me well for years. The truck to using vacuum is putting some heavy grease around the base of the exposed bleed screw when you do the suck so it doesn't suck air around the threads. You have to do this with every vacuum setup so it's not just because you're using cheap eBay shit.
>>
For example here, you put a bunch of thick grease so it can't be sucked through and it will make a nice air seal while the bleed screw is loose. If you do a vacuum bleed without putting grease here it fundamentally can't and will not work.
>>
FUCKING BITCH
>>
>>28166547
I need to do that next time.
>>
>>28166522
I have used this ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvyjS91DWWU ) method to bleed the master on my other car and it worked great, but I also needed to do this >>28166547.
>>
I need to replace these faggot grommets since fluid slowly leaks and caused some paint to dissolve underneath the brake booster. Can I just suck out the brake fluid just enough to take it off and then swap them in and then add it back, pour some fluid back in, and NOT have to bleed the brakes ?
>>
>>28165404
YWBAW
>>
>>28166563
yes, you just don't want any air in the cylinder bore
>>
>>28166563
Probably better off replacing the unit as the plunger also has rubber on it.
>>
>>28167117
true. then I definitely have to bleed the brakes, REEEEEEEEEEEEE
wonder if any of my vacuum pump attachments would snap to the lid and I could do it from there

Hello anons, need a good boomer reply. How are Miatas compared to BMWs from E92 and earlier? I want to know if it's worth my money to experience old BMW, or if I can get a similar feeling from an ND Miata. I don't care about tracking, I just want a nice engine sound and twisties fun, with a responsive steering wheel. Please only reply if you've actually driven an old beemer.

I've owned two E30 318i cabrios, a 2000 E39 523i, a 2002 E46 330ci, and last but not least, a 2004 E46 ///M3, but the only Miata I've owned and still currently own is a 1996 NA. No experience with later models. Does my opinion interest you, or no? I ask because you specifically mention ND's.
>>
>>28167968
Elaborate, I'm curious
>>
>>28166541
Nah I don't feel like adding grease, speed bleeders don't need grease just a drain hose.
>>
>>28166512
>>28166519
If i may, I strongly recommend pressure bleeding with a syringe on the bleed screw. One man operation to push fluid and bubbles up with gravity into the reservoir and suck it out, and you don't have to use grease. 5/16 OD clear tubing screws onto the threads of a veterinary syringe, just burp it and keep bubbles from entering. It's a niche method but its all I normally use

Felt like a slightly more rigid and lower cog NC to me. NA and NB feel the same, which is very very old compared to NC and ND. The suspension and chassis rigidity on the 3rd and 4th gen are night and day. Would be interesting to see some chassis rigidity #s for reference but that shit is hard as fuck to find.
>>
>>28168389
I doubt it. I used to own a NA several years ago and currently own a NB. The NB feels so much more tight. I imagine the ND would feel completely different compared to a NA.

Okay, onwards and upwards

>E30 318i
A complete tub of lard. The suspension was soft and pillowy, and the steering was light and comfortable. At 4 turns lock to lock, the steering rack is one of the worst I've felt for performance driving. For reference, I think an NA is 2.5 turns? These things can be made more performance oriented with things like aftermarket suspension and Z3/E46 rack swaps, but a completely stock E30 is a comfy cruiser, not a sports car. Oh, and all variants of the E30 are slow as fuck, and even the straight 6's can barely outrun an NA Miata. All that being said, I loved my white E30 very dearly and they're extremely good classic daily drivers.

>E39 523i
Mostly the same as above, but exacerbated. The biggest advantage of the E39 is that the interiors are really nice, assuming nothing is broken, and they came with a lot of modern creature comforts like heated and massaging seats. They're made to be big comfy cruisers, and I'd argue they're probably the best 5 series ever made for it, which is to say that it's fucking terrible when pushing hard, with understeer being the primary issue. Speed wise they're slightly slower than a Miata if equipped with the lesser I6's, but V8 models will have no trouble leaving the Miata for dead, though that does come with the threat of the M62's dreaded timing chain failure, assuming they've not been replaced already. As with the E30, I liked my E39 very much, and it's probably one of the best "bang for buck" daily drivers I've owned, however it's also the furthest removed from the experience a Miata offers.

>E46 330ci
A gerat car with some very little compromise. Interiors are similarly lovely as the E39, though with fewer optional extras, but the biggest difference is that the suspension (at least the M Sport suspension, anyway) is very capable when driving at speed. The car itself wasn't "fast" per se, but it's certainly faster than an NA Miata, and the stock exhaust note was very pleasant to the ear. Like the E39, it's a far more practical and daily-able vehicle than a Miata, and is arguably better value for money. Still lacks that raw "sports car" feeling, though, and you need to modify or delete quite a few things such as the clutch delay valve to really make it a drivers car. A decent canvas to start painting, I guess?

>E46 ///M3
Easily the most disappointing of the bunch, though probably because it's hyped to hell and back. The steering was lighter than my 330, and it felt oddly vague and lifeless at times. The suspension was the worst I've ever felt in a car, hands down, though I have to mention that the previous owner had it on lowered Eibach springs, so I can't blame BMW for that. The engine was obviously the star of the show, and it certainly felt good to ring out the 8,000 rpm that was on tap, and the ITB's made throttle response extremely sharp. This was both a blessing and a curse, however, as the "sport mode" button which does nothing but increase the throttle map sensitivity, makes the car a nervous mess that violently accelerates at the mere mention of throttle. A truly worthless button. Maintenance is also annoying, as they're solid lifter engines which require valve adjustments every few thousand miles, and as this is a 24 valve engine, this is a very lengthy and tedious process. Overall it was a car that I was glad to have owned and experienced, but I have no desire to own again. They're WAY too much money for what they offer, and I had far more fun in my Miata, despite the cavernous gap in power between the two.

>>
>>28168662

Overall it's hard to compare old BMW's to Miatas, simply because they're a completely different type of car. The Miata in almost every aspect offers a more vivid driving experience, where as almost every BMW offers a smoother and more refined experience, and requires a greater deal of modification to match the same driving characteristics that came as standard on the Miata. Bang for buck, an NA Miata offers far less in the way of comfort than what a comparatively plush BMW has to offer, but for a DRIVER's car? Not much can really match the same feel that the Miata (or any other small, simple sports car) offers, though I feel like this gap might have closed as the years have marched on. Electric steering aside, I would have to guess that an ND Miata offers nearly all the creature comforts of the earlier BMW's while still being the better driver. Hard to say without any seat time in one. One thing I will note is that throughout all my cycling of those BMW's, I still kept my NA Miata, and I still have an E30. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, I'm not sure why there's any hype around BMW steering at all, it's not as if there aren't any other cars of the era that offer a similar or even better experiences. They're still good if you get something like a purple tag rack, but it's not good enough to be the sole selling point for the car. Their strengths lie elsewhere.

>How are Miatas compared to BMWs from E92 and earlier
I drove an e92 m3 back when they were cheap. As a ND2 owner I would always encourage getting your high horse power needs before going into a miata.
I honestly didn't appreciate the miat till I owned something with over 500bhp(not the m3), but with a lot more weight.
Just know that e92 m3 prices are quite ridiculous right now. So its new car price with old car problems which is a lot more applicable to something german.

Inconel BMW M50 exhaust valves can fit 1.6 motors with the groove recut and head turned down to suit. Guide just needs honed .01mm, length is almost perfect. I'll probably make them +1mm. Can't believe nobody has done it, or at least nobody has talked about it.

>>
>>28170677
Above a certain level of boost they're almost a requirement on the exhaust side. They're readily available for 1.8 motors, but the few people that build 1.6s that far have to order custom valves. It's just one of a million reasons to build a 1.8 instead

Does this radiator look fucked?
Still a rapidly dropping coolant level in the reservoir that I have to top up once every 1-2 months. Already replaced top hose where a leak looked evident and put in radweld.
>>
>>28172522
>radweld
First off I'd like to congratulate you on potentially fucking up your cooling system even further, because now instead of just a leak, you also have a coagulant circulating in your engine block that's likely to start causing restrictions here and there over time. I'd advise you never use that sit again, ESPECIALLY in the same car.

Anyway, bent fins aren't great for cooling efficiency, but they won't cause a leak. Look on the floor where you park and see where coolant is dripping from, then trace that drip up the car and to wherever it's source is. If there are no drips of any kind, then it's likely an internal issue and it's either getting burned up in the cylinder or leaking into your oil system, both of which are best described as "suboptimal". One easy way to test for a coolant related head gasket leak is to rev the car while looking into the coolant reservoir. Obviously the coolant will move a little anyway because it's being pushed by the water pump, but if you get shitloads of bubbles in your coolant, then there's likely a head gasket failure.
>>
>>28172550
>never use that sit again
never use that *shit again
>>
>>28172522
>>28172550
Oh, I should also add that you could buy a radiator pressure tester off amazon and study the rad to see if any coolant begins weeping out anyway. If the actual veins of the rad and not just the fins are damaged, then obviously a leak could form.
>>
>>28172522
It's normally the plastic end tanks that fail on the stock radiator. When they turn olive green it's time to replace.

Check your local FBM & CL and find out!
In my area there are a bunch of NCs at new-car prices that have been up for months, and occasionally one pops up for ~$5k and is sold by the next day. I think the real deal is NBs, old enough that they sell for old-car prices but you don't pay the pop-up tax.

A real nigger would just do that bmw swap and make it fit in the stock bay utilizing all of bmws fancy valve timing mechanisms, high pressure fuel delivery, fancy piston/bore coatings etc. So yea, a bellhousing adapter to fit a miata tranny would be the smartest idea instead of building a one off Frankenstein mystery meat engine.

they hit lowest prices about 2 years ago, prices right now are starting to come up. occasionally a very cheap NC1 pop up here and there, but good luck since they sell out quickly.

the other day i saw a pic of an NB miata with an aftermarket fastback hardtop and it made me want one for my ND.
but i wish mazda made an official hardtop for the ND regardless of shape. i'm pretty tempted by the third party ones i've seen because i don't want to buy an RF.

The ND is new and therefore attracts the most normies who don't share the automotive camaraderie of most Miata drivers, it's not the car's fault that their owners are cunts.

I'm a good ND friend who would never bull a cute NA. I always wave and try to keep pace with them till we have to part.

The cords are so thick you can't make it work in place of an A/C vent unfortunately. I'm going to try moving the ground to where the ECU is grounded. I have the ECU grounded at the back of the intake and the wideband grounded at another spot on the intake. If that doesn't work then I guess I just need to adjust the calibration scaling or w/e.

My speedo is running 10 too fast. I installed revlimiter Gauges over six months ago and it went flawlessly, no issues at all. Left the car to be worked on by a friend and he for no reason took out my cluster and fucked with it (fingerprints all over it, I have a photo of them after I installed with zero prints). Even the screws are clearly aligned differently. Ever since I picked it up from him the speed has been 10 over. I soldered the speed sensor yesterday to see if that was the issue and while it was very fucked up it didn't fix that issue. He won't tell me what he did and in fact insists he didn't remove it at all despite the proof and the problem only happening directly after him having the car.

tldr speedometer 10 over and soldering the speed sensor didn't do anything. What the fuck else could it be?

The needles can be installed at any point on the speedometer drive. Maybe the needle isn't reinstalled correctly?

You dumb cunt. Part car? Nothing is missing you illiterate retard. I did my cluster MYSELF. He has a hoist and I don't, I do big stuff WITH him. He took the cluster out when I wasn't at his house because I'm not a homo and don't sleep in his bedroom.
>>28179704
Maybe. I'm warily hopeful that me personally redoing the needles will accomplish something. I don't have the little pick tools on me or I'd do it today. Originally, when it was accurate, I used the GPS method and placed my needle while driving. You think he could have placed it while going 10 over what he was actually doing?
>>
>>28179741
>He took the cluster out when I wasn't at his house because I'm not a homo and don't sleep in his bedroom.
So why would he start pulling needles and taking the cluster apart if you only do "big shit", your buddy is evil and you're a sucker.
>>
>>28179743
Because he's a piece of shit obviously, he's also still denying it despite that image I posted. He still didn't take anything, he does claim that he "only opened it to put a needle back on that fell off". Which was the temp needle supposedly, which had never fallen off for over six months. And yeah, he's never allowed near anything I own ever again.

I'm having a hard time straightening out this frame rail so I can fit FMs rails over. The entire length has side bulged.
The reinforced front and rear is also bulged. 71mm.
Needs to be 66mm

Brother that is a cut and weld job. There will be no way to massage that metal in to shape.

You could be a dick and cut the mushroom bit out, paint the cut areas and slap the reinforcements over them.

>Mine were not bad to put on and I used the jack to press them into place
>Fearing the front sway reinforcements, I hear those are intentionally made short so you beat them on

Won't all aftermarket wheels cause that in a crash since none have airbags?
