I don't know that much about racing and I've only read 7 volumes of MF Ghost. Im sure it's pretty unrealistic but so far I don't think it's much worse than Initial D. It seems like a lot of the opponents are handicapping themselves with things like traction control. Most of them aside from the guys who studied in Germany and France just seem too unskilled to get the most out of their expensive cars. So its kinda similar to Initial D in that sense.

the only reason there is any kind of "organization" or air of legitimacy to the plot of MF Ghost, only exists because without this particular plot contrivance, Shigeno would not officially be allowed to draw cars of certain brands, as they would be participating it what appears to be an illegal street race. Honda and Toyota both have huge marketing problems with their cars being used for illegal street racing in video games and excise a high degree of control, even large western companies like EA simply can't just have a GT86 running form the cops in the latest NFS even if Subaru has no such problem with the BRZ.MF Ghost's entire plot is just Initial D refactored to be corporate and licensor friendly. The basic premise of MFG is lifted entirely from the Kaido Battle video games. it's not even original. If you want MFG but good go play TXR Drift 2 on the ps2.
