Isn't it crazy how these things do 0-300 faster than Mustang does 0-60 and multiple times faster than if they got thrown out of a plane?
>>
>>28196403
What's crazy is how many decades away EV's are from achieving numbers like that. The fastest electric rail dragsters are barely in the 6's.
>>

No one cares about racing. Your drag strips are being closed one by one.

How much money do they throw away each pass again?
Kinda fucked up

Tracks are shutting down because they're gay. Too many rules and regulations is just making people go to the streets. High HP straight line builds are going nowhere and are only getting more popular as HP gets cheaper and cheaper.

$10-15k if everything goes right.

at the top level a combustion engine simply can't be beat, it's powered effectively by the same atomic principles that induce ignition in stars, at a very small scale of course.
electric motors derive motive energy from the weak atomic force, they need impossible amounts of energy to achieve the power potential of a combustion engine, it's merely the combustion engine's need to deal with heat that drags it down where the electric motor seems like a reasonable substitute.

Funny cars do 3.8 in the 1/4 now? I thought that was strictly top fuel dragster territory.

I thought funny cars did 1/4 in about 5 seconds.
>>
Well I'll be dipped in dog shit. For some reason I thought the funny cars were slower than top fuel.
>>
>>28196433
A funny car isn't much slower than a TF. They've been doing those numbers for a while. There are street cars that run 5's in the 1/4.

Funny cars are as fast as dragsters. Neither of them do 1/4 cause they shortened the distance for them 1000 ft to reduce accidents. All the other categories still do 1/4.

Top Fuel is cool and all, but honestly IMO it became too "franchised".

No prep events are still very SOVL and a lot of interesting shitboxes doing 6s passes on the 1/4 mile.

The sad tale of basically all organized racing events. 1,000' top fuel is gay admittedly but there is still nothing else like it

Without extreme downforce, it's impossible for a car to do much more than 1g of acceleration, because the normal force of grip is only going be pushed down with the equivalent force. The fastest you can go without ultra aerodynamic downforce and exhausts that press you down is about 0-60 in 2.73 seconds. That's what physics says. You can argue with it. You can cry about it, but road legal cars can't do this ludicrous shit not because of power, but because it's impossible to translate it onto the road without racing car allowances.
>>
>>28200761
top fuel dragsters pull 4-5g acceleration from a standstill

Yep, top fuel still gr8 regardless of it's sovlessness. The engines themselves is what makes it cool still.

>>28200760
Yep, steel bodies with fuckhuge turbos attached to a 10L ProLine engine is my favorite class of Drag Racing.
>>
>>28200772
Yeah with massive downforce from gigantic spoilers and exhausts that point upwards and literally rocket the dragster to the ground.
>>28200781
They're probably shaving off that 0.7 seconds with aerodynamic downforce, or the tires are a special compound that are stickier. This means they can rely on cohesion rather than ordinary traction which is governed by gravity. A coefficient of traction greater than 1 (which means the object can stick with a pull equal to its weight) is impossible without stickiness, and stickiness can't last. Dragsters have really soft tires that wouldn't be road legal, nor would those giant spoilers.
>>
>>28200789
how much downforce does a car generate while not moving?
>>
>>28200789
>massive downforce from gigantic spoilers
>from a standstill
the headers only make 1,000 lbf of thrust, that's less than half the weight of the car, and they're not even pointing upwards
>>
>>28200792
9.8 m/s/s
>>
>>28200802
It'll be the sticky tire compounds and massive spoiler then. 1000lbf is not nothing though.
>>28200804
Which is my point. Learn how the coefficient of traction works. See that 0.8-1 on the chart? That means the car can accelerate at a rate of 0.9-1 x the acceleration due to gravity. If it tries to go any faster, there will be slight tire slippage/reduction in traction. This can only be got around with sporty tricks that aren't quite as available for road vehicles. You could give a car a magical engine that produces 100,000nm of torque and if the tires can't grip at a force greater than the force of the weight holding them down, then they will inevitably slip when turned with acceleration greater than gravity.
>>
>>28200761
>The fastest you can go without ultra aerodynamic downforce and exhausts that press you down is about 0-60 in 2.73 seconds
Are you retarded? inb4 b-but it's a sticky strip. Where do you think Tesla does their 0-60 tests?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLa7QkCfrfo
>>
>>28196403
no because their spark plugs melt halfway through and they detonate the rest, their cluth packs weld together just across the starting line, they use fire hose down the intake amount of fuel, a regular muscle car wont be able to turn the supercharger and the entire engine is rebuildt for every race.
>>
>>28201339
idk, all that stuff you just said does sound pretty crazy
