I have to call my mechanic and ask him to change that rear control arm bushing for me after all, since I realized that it's one I have to press out and I can't do it myself.
>>28197387Its a shame you cannot legally own a hydraulic press as a civilian
>>28197391That I would use once every five years?
>>28197387Just updated my harbor freight press with a air/hydraulic bottle jack.
>grab a socket about the size of the bushing>piece of pipe the size of the eye in the control arm>A piece of threaded rod>Washers and nuts behind both socket and pipe>Tighten the nut behind the pipe>The socket will push the bushing outThat's how I've always done it, works both ways really.
>>28197387why cant you just drop by the mechanic with your control arm in hand, slip him $40 and ask him to press it out?
>>28197443how am i gunna get to the mechanic with my suspension pulled apart?
>>28197399Still becomes cheaper than call 'your' mechanic. They are never yours. Just to steal from you.
>>28197461With your spare car or a friend.
>>28197387Skill issue, you could tap the bushing back with an old line-up pin orr brass punch same as you would an alternator bracket with a bushing.
>>28197462Suck to be a friendless loser, my mechanic half of times doesn't even charge me for small stuff, let's me borrow his tools/diagnostic etc, whenever I want
>>28197387I like countless others run a torch flame down the hole of the bushing (outdoors because it's a smokey melty process) then shove the steel tube out of the bushing with whatever is handy. That leaves the rubber/urethane bushing which is easy to split (hack saw works fine and they're cheap) then pull or push free. Next time ask on a venue specific to YOUR vehicle and never omit posting make, model and clear well lit pics. Now you know how to tech post. /o/ is mostly for noobs who are lost. Now you are no longer as lost.
>>28197399Still pays off and when you have a tool new uses tend to magically appear. Research everything you need done thoroughly (NOT here, 4chins are for thirdieposting.)t.ancient mechanic who has mentored many others.
>>28197435this shit's greathttps://www.suspension.com/blog/how-to-install-a-bushing-without-a-press/so satisfying to save a trip to a machine shop
>>28197387Imagine not having multiple hydraulic presses at your disposal... ISHYGDDT
>>28197462I wish for you to find a good mechanic like I have. A friend of the family for ages and never fails me.
>>28198030I like that press
>>28197596>>28198963Omg nexttime you praise your 'family' doctor for giving you free covid vacc. Why americans are like this.
>>28199347I'm not american, I also didn't pay for tyre shop in years kek, it pays being likeable and nice
>>28197387Why not just spend $25 on a new control arm with all new bushings? Chances if one of them are fucked the rest are likely on their way out.
>>28198987>I like that pressThanks anon. It is actually a Harbor Freight 50 ton model that I modified some. I bought two of these presses back in the day when they were around $800 online and then used a 25% off coupon on both of them to bring them down to around $600 a piece. Well worth it at that price point! I built that press brake that is on it in that pic out of some old solid square toolbar off of farm implements The upper die is two leftover pieces of bucket cutting edge that I welded back to back. I have bent 6" wide 1/2" thick flat with it and 3/8" at full width. I also have another press I bought at a farm auction and then pulled the leaking ram and pump off of it and put a 6" diameter ram on there and made my own electric over hydraulic pump out of a log splitter pump and a 5hp 220V motor. It'll do right at 42 tons with that setup. Pic rel is right after I got done putting it together and hitting it with some paint. Fixing to make another electric over hydraulic pump unit and mount it to a 2 wheel dolly and have quick connects on it to run it as a portable hydraulic power pack. Will be making another small press here soon with a 5" diameter cylinder and a 1" stroke to run an ironworker shear. Almost bought a 50 ton Dake at an auction a couple weeks back. But decided I didn't really need yet another press!
>>28199697So he pays for your tires, retard?
>>28199697>I'm not american, I also didn't pay for tyre shop in years kek, it pays being likeable and niceI haven't paid a tire shop in years either...
