>want to buy my first manual>have only ever driven automatic>wouldn't be able to drive it home if I bought itHow do I learn bros? there are so many cool manuals I'd love to drive but I don't want to fuck them up by stalling it in the middle of an intersection or something
Get a friend or relative that can drive manual. Rent a manual and have them drive it to a parking lot for you to learn. Wear out the clutch on rental car, return the rental without telling them, buy your own car now that you've learned.
the clutch is a lightswitch. mash it down to stop engine from doing engine things. mush it into a gear that seems right and release the pedal. dont go back into 1st unless you're nearing a stop.to start the car moving, rev it to ~2000rpm and release the clutch a bit slower than usualnow go buy that new civic si and burn that fucking clutch to ash
>>28198472you can figure out the "how do i learn" part yourself, there are a thousand videos on the internet, instead what i want to tell you is:look up how the clutch works, try to understand it as best as you can. not only the clutch, but also how the car itself works, how the engine and the wheels are connected. many drivers who only drive automatics don't really grasp the concept of a powerband or gear ratios. understand why the car stalls if you dump the clutch at 1000 rpm but will do a burnout at 5000 rpm, understand how and why at a certain rpm and gear, the car can only be going at one particular velocity. this is all extremely basic stuff, but like i said most automatic drivers don't understand it and i'm a firm believer that you can operate something better if you understand the underlying mechanismas for the "how to learn" part, don't stress it too much, it might take you a few weeks or maybe months to be able to reliably reverse uphill parallel park, and all of that skill might only work with one particular car and you might have to re-learn everything in another cardon't expect to be perfect at it with 2 hours of practice at an empty parking lot, although that would be enough for driving in flat roadsyou should practice hill starts seperately, this might be controversial to some manual drivers but imo you should never ever need to rely on the parking brake for a hill start
>>28198472take an MSF motorcycle course99.99% of motorbikes are manualsonce you know how to do that, you just have to get used to a car's clutch being a pedal not a lever
>>28198472I had the salesman at the lot teach me. If he wants to sell the car he can take the time.
>>28198591> there are so many cool manuals I'd love to drive I don't think he's talking about a car lot.
>>28198472Come over to shitbox ranch and abuse one of the shitboxes off-road for a small fee. When you're ready to hit the roads, they are nearly empty, go through the gears all dayLessons come with an optional free dog.
>>28198472just watch videos on how to drive manual onlinebuy car and send itthat's what i did
>>28198472then why do you want to buy a manual? cant you get the same make and model in auto?
>>28198472>I wanna be like those cool autists on 4chudWhy do you want to pretend to be a fast and the furious character?
>>28198472You sound like a tranny. You’re convinced about something you’ve never experienced. “I just know I’m really a woman.” How in the hell would you know?
>>28198472I learned to drive stick by buying an E36 M3 cash at a Buy-here-pay-here dealer and stalling it twice on the way out of their lot. Just do it.
I drove my first manual home after never driving one before
I love these lil niggas like you wouldn't believe. I really regret selling mine, and want to get another. Make sure it's the coupe.
>>28198472I had to learn manual under time pressure and it took like 30 minutes, before youtube videos and without instruction. Pull the hopefully working handbrake if you have to stop partway up a hill before continuing because you're going to roll back a few feet otherwise. And I stalled and had to restart in the middle of intersections a couple of times.
>>28198472>>wouldn't be able to drive it home if I bought itwhy not?as long as you understand the fundamentals you can drive it, you might stall once or twice or grind the gears once or twice, but it's not that big of a deal, whole part of that 'learning' thing
>>28198472Don't buy a manual you idiot
I bought a 9th gen f series with the mazda 5 speed from some boomer on marketplace about a year ago now.He gave me the basics about moving from a stop and downshifting. After that I drove home myself and have been dailying it since.Once you gat accustomed to the clutch bite points its super easy. Ive only ever driven truckswith manuals so I cant speak for sedans and coups however.
>>28198588This is a good idea if you can't do >>28198478You'll also learn motorcycles r funnn
>>28198472Driving a manual is literally the easiest fucking thing in the world and it takes like 1 video and 30 minutes to figure out. Billions of literal npcs who do not even know the bare basics of how an engine works drove manuals before you and hundreds of millions still do today and since you're on here I'd imagine your knowledge of cars is at the very least better than that of some 60 year old European woman. Here are some basic retard tier instructions>push clutch in and slowly lift it a few times to feel out the car's biting point (you'll start to feel the clutch pedal sort of stiffen as you release it)>push clutch in and go through all the gears 10 or so times to get used to the pattern and make sure you don't accidentally shift from first to fourth>push clutch in put it in neutral start car put it in first or reverse, slowly release clutch up to the biting point while simultaneously giving it throttle and the car will start rolling (this is a lot easier on diesels)>to change gears while driving simply push the clutch in, upshift, lift clutch back up to its biting point, start giving it gas and let off the clutch again, most driving instructors over here in yurop teach drivers to upshift at around 2000rpms and to always drive in a high gear but I'm pretty sure that should really only be done when the engine is still warming up or when you're trying particularly hard to save some fuel as it's bad for the engine to run it like that all the time. Just use your ears pretty much.>when coming to a stop, press down on the brake pedal first then push the clutch in and press down on the brake pedal further.>for uphill starts, push clutch in, push brakes in, slowly release clutch up to it's biting point then quickly give it throttle as to not roll down or stall it. If this particularly worries you then it's easier to do a handbrake hill start, practically the same shit but you use the handbrake instead
>>28198472Figure it out on the way home. That's what I did.
>>28199230Also>put it in 1st when parking to prevent it rolling back unless the front of the car is facing down a slope in which case you put it in reverse, just extra security pretty much>put it in neutral when in slow moving traffic or at a red light to spare both your clutch and your leg
>>28198472I guarantee your dad can do it. Have him drive it for you and teach you. It's what I did.It was a great bonding experience with him even though I was in my late 20's.Dads have so much to teach.
when you get up to speed, turn the keys counter clockwise twice to engage race mode
Literally no different from video games. I got pretty much it all down after beating need for speed underground 2. I obviously didn't race it the day I got it but didn't stall on the highway.
>>28198472Where are you?I can help if you are in east NC.
>>28199293He clearly has no dad in sight. Not knowing how to drive a manual is a parenting problem and a good illustration of how the family institution in the modern world has been neglected.
>>28199491Stalling while driving takes a monumental level of stupidity to pull off, even going uphill downshifting to 4th will do it a vast majority of the time. 99% of the difficulty with learning stick is getting started from a stop and working the clutch. Once you get past 2nd gear all you have to worry about is when you need to stop next.
>>28198472TRIAL BY FIRE
>>28199236You sound like a fag. I leave my car out of gear on steep hills. If a van backs into it while its at pike place market, it might go through the building and into the ocean. But it's never moved from where I put it
>>28199293My dad doesn't know how to drive manual. I tried to teach him once but he wasn't into it. Hes over 65 now. Automatic has been standard since before he was born
>>28199674>over 65>Automatic has been standard since before he was bornMy dad is 62 and knows how. Sounds like your dad's a bitch lol.
>>28199679A dad that doesn't know how to drive a manual yields a creature that will resort to 4chan to ask for advice. The circle of life.
>>28199666Based digits. Car salesmen love it when your first time driving stick is on a test drive. If they press you blame the car.
>>28198472>tfw slav>tfw every homeless/child over 10 here can drive manual>tfw this year driving schools started using automatic>tfw i will see in my lifetime kids in the street discussing manual like it's some kind of nuclear physics like OP
