Why do you all shit and piss your pants over the mx5 but forget the classic it was modeled after. I would give my left testicle to own one of these bastards. Not to mention the fact that it would imply I got to fuck Anne Bancroft in her prime.
>>
because mx5s are available and (were) affordable. they also don't require an electrical engineering degree to maintain unlike an alfa.
>>
>>28200166
Big emphasis on (were) affordable. Ben with maintenance an Alfa will probably cost less with maintenance than a Miata today

>it was modeled after
MX5's come from quite a large pool of English and European sports cars that all did mostly the same things.
Except that being a Mazda you get things like
>it starts
>doesn't rust
>easy to fix
>has parts

I quite like the Spider, helped an uncle of mine restore one and while they are very cool cars, they're a lot of work that the turn-key, car go brrrrm generations that can't be fucked dealing with carburettor madness and weird shit wearing out that leaves you on the side of the road in the middle of fucking god only knows were.

MX5 aftermarket is way bigger and part availability is going to be much better, especially outside of yurop

Man, go work on a 1960's or 70's bong or wogmobile and get back to me on what you end up cutting out and welding back in
Even those 1st gen MX5's aren't great but they're really not that bad and about 20 years much less rusty than the cars back in ye olde times made out of garbage soviet steel and painted by english unionists who only hated making cars slightly less than they hated turning up to work.

>Man, go work on a 1960's or 70's bong
I own both 60's bong stuff and an MX5. Austins, Jags, Vanden Plas', Silver Shadows, Mk2 Jags, etc., etc.; I've been involved with a lot of them, and I'm not denying that they're all plagued by rust, but to say that MX5s "don't rust" is beyond comical. They give MGBs a good run for their money, and as an added bonus they tend to rust from the inside out, meaning that what you see on the surface is never a good indicator of the car's actual condition. On the flips side, I find that while most brit stuff does rot worse, they also tend to wear that rot on their sleeves, so to speak, so it's far easier to gauge just how fucked they are.

TLDR; They're both fucking awful for rust, if you buy either you should Waxoyl them every year or only drive them in the summer.

>Anne Bancroft
Who? That's some boomer ass shit based on a quick Google search. "In her prime" would mean you experienced her films in the 60s.

Go to bed gramps your youth is over.

Pretty sure the Elan is the main inspiration for the Miata.

I don't get why MG didn't build a factory V8 roadster, seems like an obvious winner.

correct
>The California team proposed a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, codenamed Duo 101, in line with the British roadster ancestry, but their Japanese counterparts favored the more common front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout or the rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.[10]
> It was only at the second round of the competition in August 1984, when full-scale clay models were presented, that the Duo 101 won the competition and was selected as the basis for what would become the MX-5.
>The Duo 101, so named as either a soft top or hardtop could be used, incorporated many key stylistic cues inspired by the Lotus Elan, a 1960s roadster, including the door handles, tail lamps and grille opening as well as engine appearance and center console layout. International Automotive Design (IAD) in Worthing, England, was commissioned to develop a running prototype, codenamed V705. It was built with a fiberglass body, a 1.4 L (85 cu in) engine from a Mazda Familia and components from a variety of early Mazda models. The V705 was completed in August 1985 and taken to the US where it rolled on the roads around Santa Barbara, California and got positive reactions.

I mean, while not a roadster, they did make the GT. MGBs don’t look so bad as coupes honestly.
