I am in the process of buying a cheap beater car for highway miles only, and I stumbled upon a used W211 E240 which I inspected today. Car held temp well, ran well, and only had rust in one small patch in the boot with no signs of other water ingress. Car was used to tow and has a towbar for a 12ft boat. Had the standard oil leak, but the oil filler cap was clean, had all keys, mercedes pen, original phone and all accessories. Only issues with the car are: no log book evidence of alleged services and a low coolant light, even when coolant is full. Owned by an 80 year old italian man who claims to have had it for 18 years in a rich part of town, and cheaper than all comparable cars. Do I take the plunge and buy it? Only drove it for 15 minutes, and I've heard W211s are pretty robust.
>>28200258Go back to the seller, and tell him you ain't buying it until you've tested every single thing on it.Value your money.

Why do you NEED a Benz? Are you brown? Are you concerned with what other people think of you? It sounds like a Benz is far out of your tax bracket. If you can't afford it new, you can't afford it used.

It's a cool car, if you want it go for it. Just make sure to set aside some money for repairs and maintenance. You should be prepared to spend the price of the car on such items. It could be less, could be more. I hope you are going to work on it yourself because otherwise it will be more
