I spend about 300 maplebucks a month on gas. Equivalent cost to charge an electric car would be about 50 dollars. So, I'd be saving $250 a month. A model 3 costs about 55k. So, is have to drive it for over 18 years to make up the cost of getting a new car over my paid off Panther body. No thanks

Solar and Wind power , grid battery storage, and Global Warming science have all been unseccessfully attacked by oil shills. And yet, here we are. A majority of the globe now accepts global warming as fact, solar and wind and batteries are going to eliminate fossil fuel usage from grids within a couple decades, and EVs will be 100% of car sales in 20 years.

>>28201404>Honey why do you hate eletric cars so much?As long as the ICE car is not a lemon, the electric car costs more on total operational costs when insurance and our household entire electric bill TIER pricing is included. By charging the electric car on our household electricity, the power company moves our entire bill up into another higher cost tier due to our much greater monthly use of electricity.***Dear, you have a habit of crunching up a car every three years. We don't dare get a Tesla due to its high bodywork repair cost.Honey, EV get a rebate.Dear, that is for non-Tesla cars because the current govt hates Elon.Honey, I can save time not going to gas stations. Just plug it into the AC socket.Dear, to recharge an EV we have to install a new level 2 charging station for $1,900. The station needs a new 240vac electric service and that costs between $2400 to $3100. The city permit in San Diego is $150 and inspection is another $150.Honey, I can't wait to supercharge my new Tesla!Dear, the above costs are for a non-supercharger. A supercharger requires the power company to run a new line to the main service box, so that is more money.***Note 1:The example above is very significant in some parts of the USA where the daily kilowatt hour costs 24 cents per kilowatt hour and is as high as 40 cents at peak hour pricing for Tier 3 during the summer A/C peak season and the winter electric heating peak season.
>>28201404>Look at how much we can save if we get one! What is the cost of an EV road trip when driving across part of the USA to a destination 600 miles away? >>28201404i drove this geo metro 15,557 miles this year, at a cost of $1088.90. That saves $933 over the previous driven car, a 2001 buick park avenue. That saves $2178 over driving my truck. I still drove my truck, a 1996 F150, 11,000 miles this year, there remains the possibility of saving an additional $1540 over the unnecessary usage of that vehicle, bringing us to a grand total of only $3718 possible annual savings, between a car that gets 50-55mpg, and a car that gets 12-17mpg. >>28207288They dont make cheap evs for the same reason they dont make cheap ICE cars. Anything under $30k is competing with the used market. If most americans had $15k to spend on a car theyd pick a 10 year old s class or a giant lifted cleetus truck over a new 3 cylinder subcompact povertybox which is why they dont sell very well. The problem for evs is that there really is no used market. EVs only got good at the end of 2024 when NACS became standardized and kia/hyundai/genesis dropped a whole bunch of new models and updates. Its probably going to take 15 years for evs to take over in the us because for that to happen all the upper middle class and up leasers will need to switch to evs first then poorfags will buy them as they age while existing gas cars wear out and get scrapped or shipped to africa. Infrastructure is also a problem since poorfags live in apartments and need access to chargers as easily as they have access to gasoline.
>>28207359>They dont make cheap evs for the same reason they dont make cheap ICE cars. But they do make cheap cars. I can get a new Versa with a stick for $15k. This is capable of doing a weekend outing unlike a EV.
>>28207368The versa is dog shit like all nissans and you can get a 10 year old car thats MUCH nicer for the same amount of money which is why nissan is barely surviving
>>28207373I know you can go used but I wanted to keep shit fair. Super cheap shitboxes like that don't really exist because you can spend another $5-10k or another $100/mo on an actually good vehicle.
>>28207378EVs are actually great if you dont get a low end one like a nissan leaf or a bolt. Kia/hyundai/genesis has some incredible electric cars now. The Kia ev6 GT costs $60k, does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and makes 600hp. You needed to buy a $250k lambo to get that 10-15 years ago. Even the $40k base model makes 400hp. Somehow gm figured out how to make decent affordable evs too. The equinox ev is like $35k.
>>28201464Batteries use more energy to provide the same output wattage as internal resistance increases (long term) and as internal voltage decreases (per charge cycle). Starting at 75% will provide exponentially worse range than starting at 100%, and starting a 500 charge cycle battery at 75% will be worse than starting a 5 charge cycle battery at 75%
>>28207330>science™ is the reason I keep changing my answerMhmm yeah sure
>>282073810-60 times are irrelevant. Nobody uses the performance. If you do your range and your $2xxx tires disappear. Shitty EV's like the Equinox get a little over 100 miles of range which isn't even enough for even the most cucked city cucks. How about we go back to my original statement where I asked you for a break down on how its cheaper to drive a leased $60k EV than it is to drive a leased $30k ICE vehicle.
>>28207390Doing either is retarded, just get a used one for half off unless youre a richfag. The chevy equinox gets 300 miles of range btw, it isnt 2014 anymore. My escooter has 100 miles of range
>>28207410I go by the realistic range which is the estimated range halved. I do the exact same with ICE vehicles and their max range except I don't need to divide the range in half. I knock off 2-3mpg for winter gas, extreme temperatures, excessive idling and excessive hooning.
All reasons EV troons provide for why EV are better are nonsense.>Saves money$30k EV+ insurance + tires + electricity cost + insane depreciation. If your goal is to save gas get a hybrid or an econobox for $10k, an EV could never match the TCo after 5 years of owning an econobox. If you live in California, the public chargers cost 60c/kwh, at home it's 50c /kwh during peak hours, 30c during off peak. At 50c if you get 250miles and have a 90kwh bank that's equivalent to $4 a gallon!>Convinient and saves time from going to gas stationsI fill up once a month and get 500miles range, it takes me maybe 10 mins to fill up my tank. With an EV, if you charge at home, you have to remember to plug it in, it's an extra step when you get home and extra step before you leave. Most EV also get 250 mile range, so you're having to plug in often. If you charge at public stations, you will spend at least 30 minutes each time you have to charge. Let's say you and I drove 12k miles per year. You get 250miles with each charge that means you gotta charge your RC car 48 times in the year, or waste 24 hours worth of time. I only had to visit the gas station 24 times cuz I get 500miles range, and each time I spent 10 minutes, so I only wasted 4 hours of my life.I think the whole not going to gas stations thing is only a win for Californias who are constantly being robbed and raped at gas stations.>Low maintenanceFalse. To maintain your warranty most stealerships make up overpriced scheduled services, like $1k to rotate tires, and change cabin air filters. In addition, tires wear out quicker too, you're probably buying new tires every 15-20k miles.

>>28208098Not everybody has their main breaker panel in their attached garage. If you need to run enough power to realistically charge a EV or two to a detached garage without having an ugly ass conduit running along the outside that shit is going to get expensive real quick. That's also assuming the likely already maxed out breaker panel even has the capacity to run another subpanel. Of course you EVfags can't comprehend the infrastructure needed for EV's and just assume everybody lives in a big house with a 4 car attached garage with a 400 amp breaker panel.
>>28208518Literally put it on the dryer circuit, you are probably using that once a month, at all other times it's perfectly adequate for a 30 amp 240v charger. Is it slower than a 50 or 60 amp? Sure! It also doesn't matter, it's more than adequate for commuting needs.

>>28208525>implying anyone on /o/ has a car or leaves the house
>>28208529No, split it off at the breaker, obviously. Don't run a fucking extension cable through your house, that's retarded.
>>28208535How exactly do you think the electricity is going to make it from the dryer outlet to the garage 50' away? You know Bluetooth electricity doesn't exist, right? Holy fuck...
>>28208542>reading comprehension
>>28208542You know that a circuit can have multiple outlets on it, right? You just snip the wires and make a split. It's pretty trivial, your house undoubtedly has examples of this all over the place. Just find rooms with multiple outlets on the same circuit.
>>28208544>3rd grade science comprehension>>28208545How the fuck is "splitting the wires" relevant? That's not the fucking hard part. How the fuck do you think the power is making it the 50' from the laundry room to my garage without using any wires or cables?
>>28208548You pay a man from Home Depot $200 to do it for you, since you clearly don't know how.
>>28208554Home Depot is going to give me the $500+ worth of cable as well as rip up and re-pour my patio for $200? Gee golly what a screaming deal!
Just go to construction sites, borrow some heavy duty wire, put a NEMA 1450 male plug on one end and a female plug on the other and there you go
>>28208574I can't wait until you people start burning your houses down. Get ready to pay $50k/yr for house insurance lmao.
>>28207288If you're on the west coast you can find first generation RAV4 EVs for about $2500. You have to put up with 20 miles of range for a while while the NiMH batteries recondition themselves. At the end you get about 80 miles of range and it'll last you FAR longer than any Leaf
>>28208581We've already covered why buying a used EV let alone one that bad is a extremely terrible idea. 40 miles of range is also not comparable to any ICE vehicle at any price point.
>>28208560Does your garage not already have power running to it for the garage door opener? If so, you already have the conduit running there. If not, why have you not already spent the money to run power out to your garage, and if it's lack of money, how do you afford internet?
>>28208588I have a breaker box in my garage, it was already set up for an EV, good stuff.
>>28208576That's what I did when I needed an extension for my J1773 charger and it's worked out fine
>>28208588My garage only has a little 30A sub panel. It's a 1970's house so I would never pull 30A off it. There's no fucking way you're pulling a 6/3 cable through the conduit feeding it.
>>28208602I've got some great news for you, anon. 30 amps of 120v is more than enough to charge an EV. You might only end up getting about 2 kW out of it with a standard 120v outlet, but if you plug in when you get home and leave it plugged in for 12 hours, you will have added about 20 kWh to it, which for most EVs is going to be about 60 miles.
>>28208615>30 amps of 120v >You might only end up getting about 2 kW out of it with a standard 120v outletJesus Fuck. Stop talking about fucking electricity. Fuck it's like a bunch of virgins discussing pussy here.
>>28208621What on earth could you have possibly expected on an EV thread?
>>28208625I would expect at least a Magic School Bus tier understanding of electricity but I guess that was a little much to expect. It seems like people here were thinking about fucking Carlos instead of learning.
>>28208621Electricity is not that complicated. He doesn't want to draw 30 amps. This is fine, because a 120v outlet limited to 15 amps (which is what most American 120v outlets are capable of) puts out 1.8kW of electricity at maximum, which means "about 20 kWh over 12 hours," or "about 60 miles in 12 hours for most EVs."
>>28208657You missed where I said "realistically charge". 120v charging has been proved to be useless many times by now.
>>28201448>Electricity comes from coalYes, but I'll give the EV faggots credit where it's due, at least the electricity from the coal plant doesn't go to powering an oil refinery, then to make gas, then the gas gets shipped to you, and then you put it in your car. I wouldn't be surprised if 1W from the coal plant gets turned into 0.0001W of power available for your car after the whole process is done because it's so inefficient. Now that I think about it, that's probably the whole point
>>28208683The nice thing is that solar is cheaper than ever. The pay back period is usually only 5-7 years now. My state is 60% nuclear anyway.
