I'm so over the running light bar trend. It was cool when Porsche did it but now it's every car. Hyundai does it, Tesla does it, Lincoln does it, VW does it, Ford does it, Mercedes does it, Chevy does it. There's fewer cars that don't do it. Head lights and tail lights used to be unique and have personality, some cars have truly iconic lights that you can tell what car it is in the dark just from seeing the back. Now it's just "make the light go all the way across"

I dunno I think it looks fine on its own, but all Tesla cars are supposed to look similar. Model 3, X, Y, S all look similar in general shape, just different proportions and some slightly different designs. Thats what makes a Tesla so recognizable.
This deviates too much from the typical Tesla design, it looks like some chink EV and not a Tesla, even though it looks decent without any context.
>>
>>28202877
Why introduce a whole new generation when you can just continually upgrade your existing models? Eventually your cars will be the "default car" in everyone's head simply by sheer numbers.

They do it because it makes the car look slimmer than it really is. They're trying to hide the fact that cars have ballooned in size over the last 25+ years by using design tricks.
>>
>>28203060
I wish they would have done traditional "generations" because it's hard as fuck looking for used ones. Every year model has different hardware and the information isn't public facing so you have to find user documentation that's maybe accurate.
And sure maybe it isn't the manufacturers concern what the second hand buying experience is like but surely it would have been more cost effective to standardize all the hardware and software and make every car exactly the same for 5 or 6 years and then update it all at once.
>>
>>28203229
They're just doing the same thing as Apple does with everything besides the iPhone. Everyone knows what a MacBook Pro looks like, what's inside is secondary.

How are they getting around the regulation that requires the brake lights to be fixed in place, not on a moving panel like the hatch? I don't see a break in the tail light where it could stay on the body. Will it have secondary tail lights under the hatch like the Buick Cascada?

People, especially nu-people, are hilariously bad at empathy and merely pretend it 99% of the time, so they drive goyslop in public and listen to nigslop with friends and never bother to ask people, one on one, what they actually think of shit

Never understood why car companies don't take an old classic design and rerelease it fully updated. Picrel is a prototype, but it had a lot some traction. Would love if it became a trend, new cars haven't look good since 2008
>>
>>28207498
>why car companies don't take an old classic design and rerelease it fully updated
its fairly simple, mostly comes down to 2 things
- modern emissions regulations effectively penalize high aero drag designs. everything is a blob because blobs are slippery.
- modern safety requirements and their ramifications for vehicle sizes. if you want the cabin to withstand a 60mph collision, it needs to be a bit more substantial than ye olde tin can with some seats glued in place.

so, yea. say you wanna do this thing, make a modern car that looks like an older model. generally speaking, by the time you've stuffed in all the airbags and crash bars and crumple zones and electronic safety faggotry, and then done some wind tunnel testing and finished blobbifying it enough to give it <0.3Cd, guess what, it looks nothing like the car you started with.

not always tho. in some cases, older design can be if not replicated, then at least imitated, modulo a scaling factor. and it has been done, well too. most notably, the modern fiat 500, which does actually look good and definitely reminds you of the old one. except ofc its twice as long and 3 times as heavy or something.
but hey, that's a actually, unironically a good thing. it can actually fit modern sized people, its has abs and airbags and crash bars and crumple zones and it can travel at 100km/h (60mph) on a highway.
>>
>>28207689

we have SUV because 80% of new car purchase ( outside of fleet ) are done by women
women do not like to drive and are afraid of speed, being higher up decrease the feeling of speed coupled with the general size of the vehicle and you have an increase feeling of safety
why do they look like blob ? is perfectly explained by anon here >>28207689

in the US, SUVs and pickup trucks replaced the old american v8 landyacht sedans of yesteryear because CAFE had different emissions regs for passenger vehicles and "light trucks" or whatever.
you can't make a 20mpg sedan luxobarge, but a 20mpg BOF suv is fine, somehow. because its a work vehicle? i don't understand.
anyway, this ended up making trucks and suvs the only way for many americans to get into a beeg vee eyte. well, at least with enough space for a family, otherwise a mustang was always an option. and ofc once the trend started, the vehicle size arms race started too, so now everyone has to be driving a tank on stilts, otherwise they feel unsafe.
its a fucked up situation, but in the end, yea, the truck/suv faggotry is absolutely a consequence of emissions regs.
