Torn between a mt03 with 1k miles for $3200 and a grom for 2-2.5k which would you recommend?
>>28203495shingle get on the cockrocket
>>28203495A Honda
>>28203510Grom. So when you eventually drop your first bike it won't worry you do much. Also tiny single cylinders rulez
>>28203511>>28203523Can only go 55mph though
Can you get a used Ninja 400 for that money?
>>28203583Aren't the yamaha mts supposed to be really good?
>>28203583Maybe 3200 but probably more around 3600-4500
*slow, deep breath*Thanks Doc!
>>28203530So? Look at the size of the damn thing. It is plenty of you don't plan on going on the highway. And you can change the sprockets for more speed if you really need it
>>28203608Fucking god damn it>>28203614I would want ti take a 400 mile highway trip occasionally really
>>28203495BMW R1150GS
>>28203637Some might say even a 300 is too little for the highway like that.
>>28203863Don’t they still go like 120mph
>>28203872Yeah, but there is a difference in stress doing that in a 300 vs say, a 600 or up. You can do it, but you're pushing it. Like my scooter can go 70, but not for long before my manifold becomes in danger.
>>28203495Get a police surplus fat german bastard and learn to respect the machine first. Crotch rockets are a bad influence, and Grom is a toy.
>>28203884I mean shouldn’t cruising at 75 be fine?>>28203885Disgusting
>>28203495Thanks doc
>not getting the $2500 sportster
>>28203495>near MSRP for a used bikeAnyone charging more than like $750 for a small displacement bike that's 5+ years old should be executed. I don't care how "clean" it is or if you've never dropped it.
cringe teenager colors
>>28204012Fucking stunning!
Grom will teach you bad habits and you'll look like a turbo-zoomer
If you’re going for babby tier ccs get a drz 400. If you want to go on a big trip get at least a 600. The extra weight alone makes it more comfortable to ride highways long distance
>>28204145
>>28204046All groms are at least 2kIsn’t 3200 for a basically new mt 03 good though?
>>28203940Yes, cruising at 70 or so should be fine. If you want a little more you can always change teeth count on your sprockets
>>28204565I wouldn't say it's a good deal but it isn't bad. Really depends on the previous owner, bikes are more maintenance intensive than cars and they care a lot more if you skip out on your intervals (usually)
>>28203495why would you even consider a grom if you're looking for a motorcycle?all the 300's are good enough just go with whatever you find a good deal on and that you likemt03, ninja 400, g310, 300nk, it doesn't matter
>>28204581Some rich guys son looks like it doesn’t have a scratch on it . Thought it was a good deal because people usually want almost 4k for ones with 10k miles
>>28204603Found a 2017 cbr 300 for 1800Is 18k miles too much?
>>28203495Take the old ass ninja 500 pill. They're pretty forgiving, very cheap, and have the right sort of power for a new rider. Also you're gonna drop any first bike, at least with this one you won't be really sad or out a bunch of money when it happens.
>>2820394070 is fine. My point is it is just less stress. But it is fine.Or, what if you buy the mt03 and a cheap Chinese grom clone? That way you can be at it up without paying the Honda tax and a new engine is like 400 bucks.
>>28204928Why would i need both? And the clones still cost 1500-2000 lmao
>>28204894Isn’t 3200 super cheap for a basically new mt03?
>>28203495Bump
>>2820481918k is a little higher than I'd personally prefer but if the valve train doesn't sound like a box of marbles I'd take it.
>>28204936I don't know, probably a decent deal, but it's still new and shiny, and you'll feel extra shitty when you drop it, you can get a ninja 500 for like $1200.
>>28205477This.Ninja EX500 is an excellent beginners bike and you can get all the dirty out of your system and not care about the damage done. And when you're ready to move on there's another guy who will pay you what you paid for it.
>>28205477Lol you can’t get a ninja 250 for $1200 anymore
>>28204934Why not have both? You're just going to end up back on marketplace anyways. And at 2k you get the same value as a grom. The only thing a grom has over it is Japanese built quality.
>>28206531Cuz broke
>>28203940>DisgustingPractical. You can go anywhere on it. Grom will rattle your teeth off after 10 miles. Also engine protects your feet so you are less likely to turn them into pulp when you fuck up. Not if, when. The only downside is that you look like a boomer.
>>28207480Ugly boomer yacht
>>28207907Sorry you're poor
>>28203495Just get a dual sport
>>28207907Yes. You look like a boomer on an aero boxer, and when riding it, you feel like a boomer too. Rich and cuddly. On top of the world. Part of the golden generation. And that's a good thing. Imagine. You got a stable job that will last you till retirement, you own your house, you got three kids, two dogs, three cars, and this here White Beast- the one vehicle in the fleet that's only for dad. In the moment riding it, you at once feel wholely unremarkable, yet more successful than anything you can hope for in your own life. It supercedes you, it makes you experience things firmly lost to time. Life will never be as good as back then, but for a moment, you can feel the piece of it. So heed my advice. Do not buy a crotch rocket. Buy a boomer boxer. They are the same price, but boomer boxer is a better bike in every single way. And don't be afraid of embracing the boomercore- there's nothing but positives in that affair.
>>28208031Holy shit your a loser
>>28208070We are all losers. You, me, OP, all of us except for the few boomers still left on the board.
>>28204012I paid 3k for mine.
>>28204157>stretch swingarm gromI hope it helps him keep all 12hp under control at the 1/4 scale drag strip
>>28204012>>28208549Wish I was cool enough to have a sporty
>>28208552HELL YEAH BROTHER
>>28208561Someday you'll get the correct size Harley and then you'll understand
>>28208578Probably not. I'm poor :(
>>28204012>>28208549I'm sure I overpaid at $4K for mine, but it was during covid and I don't regret it.
>>28208626What's it like being rich?
>>28208647It brings me no joy in of itself. I'd like to make some sort of comment that I'm not rich, I'm just monetarily stable but with todays economy that pretty much means I'm rich... which is bullshit. I'm looking for a house but the current prices are a fucking joke, if I lose my job I'll lose my insurance and I won't be able to afford my heart medication. My car is getting old enough that I should start looking at a new one but the car market is nearly as nuts as the house market. But at least I have bike. How are you?
>>28208661I fucking feel you my guy. All things considered, could be worse honestly. Got a roof over my head and I'm not hungry. What else does a man need. And we got our bikes. So we got that going for us
>>28208661Don’t buy cars made after 2013
>>28209443Ok boomer
>>28203885>>28208031I like your style and totally agree, but I'm getting up there in age myself I suppose. Only thing I'll say is most new riders struggle with low speed movement and stability a lot so the BMW is a challenge due to weight and size. Ideally they'd learn on a 300cc size bike for at least a few thousand miles then go up to a real bike. I do like those old RT's though. Newer ones had heated seat too.
>>28203530If you have 3k you can grab a cmx300,cmx500,cb300r,cbr300r, or shadow for that money easily.
>>28209494Shadows are nice
I just don't like bikes that aren't fully faired and there's really no excuse for it in these modern times
>>28203495Considering I managed to buy a 2021 KTM 390 Adventure for less than 4K with tons of accessories + waterproof bags, living on an ESL shithole instead of the US, you can probably find better deals, besides if its your first, try to get someone with more knowledge to see it in person, I did that with several bikes until I found the KTM one (yes, I also was a rookie recently). Just make sure to do that because what >>28204581 said is the truth desu. Mine needed a new battery because the guy who had it never used it, I recently did a service on it too since I didn't used it much except on my bike lessons and recently I got my license now. I suggest that if you DO buy it, or any other used bike, take it to a service ASAP anyways. Make it have at least the minimal check up for the key parts (chain tension, clutch, etc). I would recommend as well that if the used bike you got clearly wasn't maintained, do a cheap yet decent quality oil change on it + oil filter clean, drive it 1K miles and then change it with actual good oil + new filter, that will help to clean some of the old oil gunk, also clean the air filter if its dirty, then buy a new one alongside the good quality oil.>>28203588Only the Japan made ones are considered very good, which are the MT07 onwards. MT03 is still considered to be a good bike though for being made on Indonesia.
>>28203495>My first bike>Wants a spots bikeAnon listen im gonna give you some actual good advise here that most people are going to tell you not to listen to me but fucking listen to me. If this is your first bike, this is what you need to do. Go onto craigs list and find an used DRZ400 you can get them pretty cheap they are 3k-4k with little mils on themDRZ400 is a duel sport. basically a large dirtbike with headlights and signals. What you are gonna do is learn to ride on it, because if you are new to riding, your gonna lay that bike down, and your gonna wanna do that on a bike that can take that kinda punishment. Learn to ride the DRZ, get out in the sticks and off road with it.>But i want a street bikeDoes not matter, learning how to ride single track on a dirt bike, especially a 'heavy' one like the DRZ400 WILL make you a better rider overall.Learn the maintenance on it.Learn how to install a kick start kit on your DRZ to familiarize yourself with the idea of bike maintenance.
>>28209970>Learn to ride on offroadKino advice, I actually took most of my lessons myself driving offroad, when I finally took on driving asphalt, it was a fucking joke of how easy it was to drive, specially on making turns. Also if you really wanna ride well and not fall off, slow speed control is KEY, you will usually fall off your ass way more at low speeds, so make sure to master that asap, also throttle control, so when making a slow turn the engines doesn't turn off and your ass doesn't fall to the side, having the bike landing over your leg and at worst, breaking it.
>>28209986>Also if you really wanna ride well and not fall off, slow speed control is KEYAnd this is why I suggest you learn how to offroad ride single track on a DRZ400 because its a big bike for a dirt bike, and if you can keep yourself upright on single track off road at low speeds? Bro there is nothing you cant ride on save for ice maybe But yes, one of the best skills you can learn is how to feather the clutch. Feathering the clutch will make you such a good fucking rider that its scary.
>>28209557Cool opinion, bro
>>28209960I think people under rate Indonesia. Them and Thailand are way more competent than china and india.
>>28203495a grom as your only bike is gonna be lame unless you are a midge and it just fits
>>28210477Would a mt03 be cool?
>>28209960Wait to 03 is Chinese? Wtf
>>28210477Y
>>28210543No
>>28203495get a 20 year old super cub, use for to learn on, get your full license on it.then graduate to a 10 year old hunter cubthen mod that hunter cub to get twice to performanceuse it for another full year or sothen you can get a nice sports bike.nothing worse than a faggot riding around town on his L's on a sports bike.especially if they dont even know how to fix it, or even what they are looking at.also the good thing about old cubs is they have hit their price floor, so as long as you maintain it and dont crash it its going to resell for pretty much the same as you bought it for.
>>28210543MT03 is far more capable, top speed is 105mph while Grom is 50-70mph. Note I have never ridden an MT03 nor a Grom and my first bike was a 1000, but I'd go MT03 unless you're sure you'll only be riding in a small city and never need a higher speed road. Grom is like a toy, MT03 is a small bike but a real bike.
>>28210549Yes, the lower CC ones from Yamaha have been made over there for more than a decade afaik, with Honda would be similar, but these are either made on Indonesia or India, both are good though.>>28210044Better than the average China made? YesBetter than Indian? I would say they are on par.KTM low CC bikes for example, are all made by Bajaj
They even receive them with Bajaj logos on the box outside, no joke
and are of very good quality. As of China bikes, CFMoto is decent to pretty good depending on the model (MT 450 has been very good it seems, same engine as the SR and NK 450) They have been working with both KTM and BMW for many years as of now, and just recently, Yamaha has partnered up with them too for production, so they clearly know what they are doing. Honda these days get their lower end bikes made by a brand called Hero on India and they have turned out pretty good for being cheap bikes, usually for the deliveryfags who need to squeeze every mile from the 2 gallons they can put up on them lol, and Kawasaki besides BMW have used Loncin/Voge engines for a long time too.TVS, an Indian bike company makes the G 310 R for BWM too, besides that, the TVS 310RR is EXACTLY THE SAME, so if you want a cheaper G310 but with the racing look, give them a check, those are pretty cool too.Pretty much any modern bike that is 600cc or lower these days its from Indo-China origin, it all comes down on QC that gets enforced down their asses. Most of the time if you are checking a cheap bike and you know the OEM of it, the ones from India, Thai or Indonesia have a more consistent QC on their own brand. Chinese brand bikes the thing is that there are too many brands and most of them are forgettable, or simply put, are the aliexpress bike that gets rebranded later on Amazon or the importer with its own brand. 1/2
>>28211743I meant better than average for both. The average indian bike company is worse than even the average chinese. So many unheard of and terrible bikes.
>>28211743For Example, the so called "Amazon Bike", from brand Lifan is known on some SA countries like Chile and Argentina for example just like in the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oKrcVlPY3sOn other places like Mexico, they usually have brands called "Italika, Vento" among others, those guys simply buy bikes like Lifan or Loncin in bulk and ask for certain stuff to be filled instead, color design with the logo usually. Also a big thing is the whole requirements for import, Mexico has some very shit requirements, as for others are more up to par with current EU or USA requirements like ABS requirement as a must for the brakes, among others. So with chinese bikes it really ends up being kind of a roulette if its not a well stablished or at least, well represented brand by the ones who deals their products, besides on other things like some cheaper brand or the salesman can say "it has Loncin components" which can just be the motor alone, yet the rest is the most cheapest aluminum block used for making the clutch lever. So usually, when its is too good to be true, you better just skip on that, or at most, leave it as a weekend ride so you just mess around for a little while, not something you want to take serious. For the big brands they keep a high goalpost that you must complete to perfection in order to work with them, otherwise they basically rape your ass and cut any deals you have with them instantly, yet that's why at the same time, you get reliable machines, even though you had to pay a bit of a premium for them.Anyways, I personally am always for of a keen person of buying a decent bike from a well reputable brand first on used condition than a cheap chink pos, but if you are a turbo poorfag, then the chinese bike will do to move your ass if the used deals where you live suck.2/2
>>28211754I don't know many Indian bike companies, but those tend to have a harder contrast on quality, either they are downright a nightmare, or are pretty good. With china bikes, you get usually the one guy saying "oh I bought X brand, its good" but later 20 others bought the same and had a shit experience, so its more inconsistent.
>>28211754Reddit
>>28203495between those two i'd get the MT for sure. grom is fun but MT is more useful for longer, and more to grow into as a first time rider. get the guy down to $3k and use the extra two hundo for some drop pegs so you don't cry when you inevitably fall over.
>>28203495Is a yamaha enduro sny decent?
>>28214610Yes
>>28210039Nice bro thanks hey you wanna take turns fitting each others asshole into our assholes? And you can kiss me just on the lips don't make it gay bro.Cool?
