For me it's the DR650

I love 'em, just wish the new generations were a little lighter.

>>28204238
Love these, too. Just wish they had a bigger stock fuel tank. I know a lot of people put aftermarket ones on, but they ruin the look of the bike imo.
>>
>>28203949
Cool bike. How are they sized if you're not a manlet? Unironically interested
>>
>>28204387
They're fucking huge bikes, anon. Basically the battleship of motorcycles. I'm 6'0" (not 5'11" rounding up) and I feel borderline manlet on a KLR.

Look at the IMS gas tanks. They basically aped the old dr650rse hump design, although you won't have the fairings to match.

let me guess you're also using 4chan with your phone? and you're gen Z or younger?

your ignorance of basic memes means you're NOT welcome here, you are literally deteriorating the quality of this board because you have invested nothing into basic internet culture but stil want to enjoy the edgy content that 4chan has (well, had)

I don't want the best motorcycle. I want the motorcycle that is kinda mid to half-shitty at everything but looks cool.
Racing? Yeah, not great, but it feels like a win if I just keep up.
Off-road? Same but I want to do it anyway.

Why get a good motorcycle when the fun is in making a mid motorbike do things it shouldn't?
Reliability is good, apparently. Hasn't blown up on me yet anyway.

Hard to accept but Its probably one of the best around the world bikes. Pretty much any grease monkey on the face of the planet could fix it and you can probably find parts for it everywhere in the world.
>>

>>28205594
Maybe with a sixth gear it would be. 5th and 70mph on the Zed starts to feel like wooden bleachers at a tractor pull rally.
>>
>>28206088
450lbs before you add your gear.
>>
>>28203949
I might pick one up this spring, seems like it would be a good compliment to the street bike. Pretty damn cheap too.
>>
The only thing wrong with the klr is that they don't sell it in europe

Hopefully you have a (((you))) and an answer for this

With a harley davidson shovel head, you can do all this and more
>offroad
Pick your poison or get a dual sport for this
>>28206037
Only the diesel klr is worthy of this title, the gas klr is just a pigfat gutless adv with single cylinder thats also near indestructible
>>
>>28207220
Most people with t7s are using them for highway touring and sometimes go on a gravel road. It's a bike that "could go offroad" that people are afraid to drop; and the gearing and suspension are secretly tuned for highway touring because they know that's what the bike is really for. A KLR is far more durable and actually made for rough treatment.
>>
>>28207399
>and the gearing and suspension are secretly tuned for highway touring
way to out yourself. 2nd gear was MADE for offroading, can tractor from 10kmh all the way up to 80
>>
>>28207428
>tractor from 10kmh
I do not feel comfortable lugging the engine at low RPMs like that. Maybe that's just an old wives tail, but it was damn mear beaten into me learning to drive, so that's a no-go for me.

I'm getting my first bike in a few months and I thought about a KLR, especially since my local dealer has a bunch of leftover '23s for really cheap, but I think it's too pigfat to be a learner bike for the kind of riding I want to do. Probably gonna get a 300L or KLX 300 instead but I might add a KLR to the fleet once I feel more confident off road.
>>
>>28208067
> First bike
Unless you already have friends who are already riding OHV, live extremely close to wilderness/trails, or have a truck that you can use to transport the bike, I woud skew your bike criteria more towards the highway/gravel and less towards enduro. If you're stressed and tired from being a human kite hanging off a 300lbs bike with no windscreen at 70mph, it can negatively impact how much fun you have on the trail, plus the ride home.

If you plan on exploring every hard packed back road you see, the KLRs a pretty damn good fit.
>>
>>28208067
Just know it’s not really a highway bike, no singles really are and the lack of a windscreen will knock the hell out of you at those speeds. It’s a dead simple heavy 55mph bike that’s great on dirt.
>>
>>28208101
Is 5th gear not tall enough to handle 70mph comfortably? I know thumpers will never be as smooth as a twin, but what the fuck is the point of the KLR having a 650cc if it tops out even slower than a drz?
>>
>>28208108
I don’t own one buy a friend of mine does at that’s how he explained it to me. They run a tick under 5k rpm on stock setup at 70mph. It’s what you get from a dual sport that’s more focused on the off-road segment, more onroady would be like the g series bmws and Tenere styles.

im not mad at anyone riding a klr
>>
>>28203949
I’ve had Yamaha KTM Suzuki Kawasaki etc but the best bike I ever owned was a XR650R, such an amazing bike and so simple and powerful, it even got good fuel economy for long desert rides
>>
>>28207730
it feels less like lugging and more like idling. engine doesn't struggle at all
>>
>>28208113
Got it. 5k isn't bad for top gear at 70mph on a thumper. Even a KTM 640 is going to be close to that, and that's a much more tuned engine.
>>
>>28208086
>>28208101
Highway isn't a concern, at least not for this first bike. I just moved to a region that's packed with OHV trails and BLM land and tons of it can be accessed without highway riding, which is a big part of why I'm finally getting the bike I've wanted for ages - my old area would've required an hour on 80mph freeways to get anywhere worth taking a dual sport. I also do have a truck and I'm probably going to get a trailer too, parents just put in an offer on a property that kinda needs one for landscape debris etc. and I could borrow it for bike hauling.

Down the line I'll want something I can tour on but I want to learn the basics on a relatively mild and easy to pick up bike. A dirtbike would probably be even better but I know I'd barely ever ride the thing if I had to put it in the truck every single time.
>>
>>28208681
My vote is a KLX all the way then. Maybe a wr250r if you're tall and ambitious.
