The big 3 each respectively peaked aesthetically with the aeronose, square body, and 2nd gen Dodge's. Honorable mention for dentsides, GMT400, and 1st gen Dodge's.There hasn't been a truck with memorable looking design in the last ~25 years, except for maybe 1st gen Super Duties. And related, why did two-tones die?
>>28207411>And related, why did two-tones die?likely cost
>>28207411I dont like the first gen superduties aesthetically much at all. They are big and bulbous like the jelly bean f-150s, but they lack any of the qt catfish aaaaaah look of the 10th gen. I like bullnoses a lot, and the low square headlight 6.4 era front ends look amazing to me, especially in black plastic like the XL F-550s.
>>28207411First gen superduty is the newest body style I own and I won't even consider going newer than that. Have an bunch of aeronose Fords (I seriously lost count years ago). They are my favorite. Not a huge fan of brick nose fords, but have a few. Have a couple bull nose fords and do like the aesthetics of them. Have some dentsides and bumpsides too and also love their styling. Thanks for listening to my Ford addiction speech.
>>28207438were they really that much more costly?>>28207450same, I'm not sure why but bricknose just don't do it for me like aero and bull
>>28207438You can still order two tone but they don’t do that retro with the color bracketed.
>>28207822>same, I'm not sure why but bricknose just don't do it for me like aero and bullOnce in awhile I'll see a real nice example of a brick nose that is lifted just the right amount with shiny alcoas and it just has the right look to it, and I almost long to have more of them in my stable... I have one 90 F-250 light duty with the semi floater rear and a 302 and 5 speed, and TTB front, that I bought for $400, and a 90 F 350 SRW with the 7.3 IDI, ZF5 Dana 60 front, and a brand new flatbed on it. Never got a title with that one, so I'll probably swap the engine and transmission into a 95-f350 I have with the 351 and ZF 5 speed. Probably put the flat bed on it too, and then swap the dana 60 into another F-250. Then I have this ugly bastard too. Pulled the booms off and cut a bunch of shit off the back, gonna keep the 500 gallon stainless tank and make a spot spraying rig out of it. Got dually rims and 285/75/16 mud tires for it to replace those oddball tires on the back. 7.3IDI ZF 5 speed. Kingpin Dana 60 front. Ugly as sin.
>>28207929buy pissfill it with pissspray piss on poors in nissans
>>28207411I’ve always loved that color pattern
>>28207411I'm in construction and in the market for a 4x4 Daily. Of course, I'm like everyone and prefer a people mover with 4 doors. Which exact model would you suggest? To me, these are the definition of truck. I have been looking at <$25k options, but it just feels silly getting a complicated truck that really doesn't do anything extra other than some comfort.BTW, my cousin had this gen lightning for about a year and it was pretty cool IMHO, even if not powerful.
>>28210625OBS crewcabs were only for 250s or 350s, and CC long beds are highly sought after (even though I think they look awkwardly long) and available all years, CC short beds were only 96 and 97$25k can probably get you a CC gasser/IDI in great shape, or a mediocre/high mileage CC powerstrokeIdk much about the rest, and I feel like CC GMT400s and 2nd gen dodges weren't as common as OBS CCs, and even rarer on anything older. Definitely a less common configuration back thent. 1992 SRW F-350 460/ZF5 regular cab long bed
>>28210675You can get OBS crewcabs in F-150 flavor if you find a Centurion. I have a 1994 Centurion F-150. It's kinda a rusty pile, but I only gave $2000 for it. 5.0, automatic, and 4x4. Crewcab short bed. I need to find some time and fix it up a bit, my wife's been driving it around town to run errands.
>>28207929i dont know how you do this. I have (1) ford truck and its literally driving me batshit insane with how often it breaks and how much work it needs
>>28210675>>28210682Thanks. I may just go for a Bronco but this is good info.
>>28210751>i dont know how you do this. I have (1) ford truck and its literally driving me batshit insane with how often it breaks and how much work it needsJust keep at it anon. I buy stuff that is cheap and broken and just fix the things other people didn't want to put the effort into fixing. Most of it is simple fixes to. Unfuck their shitty wiring and get everything back to stock. Fix the interior door handles and fix where the handle mechanism bolts to the door skin. Plastic weld interior trim pieces that are busted or replace them with good ones from a parts pickup or e-bay. Brakes, battery cables, wear items, etc. I prefer solid front axles and standard transmissions as they are pretty much bulletproof... I just wish I had more time to work on them. Every day I'm either feeding cattle or changing water and farming for more than half the day, and a lot of times all day... And I'm getting old enough so I can't do monster fueled months on end of 4 hours of sleep per night anymore... Shit sucks, I still have a lot I want to get done.
I've watched a 97 F250 7.3l go from 8k down to 2500, it has 355k miles and I'm mildly curious because I know it needs work and don't want them to scrap it. Think of the stuff they said it needs a water pump.
>>28207411>why did two-tones die?The last two tone chevys were the GMT800s if I'm not mistaken, and then the recession came along and we never got another factory two-tone option. Demand went down and the profit margins weren't there, and they knew there would be no way for people to resist against it. Just look at how common achromatic colored cars are now, people don't care about paint color like they used to in decades past.TL;DR: Decreasing demand coupled with jewish cost-cutting measures.
Agree. I picked this 7.3 up for $2600 in August because it had a fuel leak....it was just the fuel bowl drain valve. 100% untuned/unfucked runs beautifully. The only issue is a bit of slop in the steering, but I'm assuming it probably needs a completely new front end. People will throw their old shit away the moment they buy something new.
>>28207411I have a 97 F250 so I'm not biased when I say the greatest looking pickup truck ever made was the 2017 F250.
I have a 96 PSD paid $5,500 in 2019. About $15,000 into everything needed to get it where I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. These trucks are getting old and require a decent investment in time and money to get them right.
I would rather see people drive around small crossovers than these fuckhuge monstrosities all the time
I would rather see people drive around any kind of old truck than these fuckhuge crossover monstrosities all the time
