What's the catch?
People say Audi R8 are the most reliable super car.
Why are they so cheap?
>>
if anything breaks ur paying out the wazoo
how is 135k cheap?
I bet you can get a v8 s6 or s8 for half that price
you are paying out the yamhole to finally have a rwd platform instead of ALL the other audis are front wheel drive based
>>
they made tons of them and audi isn't a particularly prestigious badge when it comes to supercars
i'm guessing huracans are a lot more expensive when they are essentially the same cars
>>
>>28207592
911 turbos are much more reliable
>>
>>28207671
Not really desu. They’ve had a lot of issues. The turbo depreciated slightly less over 5 years but I suspect that will change as the R8 is dead and Porsche is overproducing Turbos

>>
>>28207592
The bar isn't high for supercar reliability, but tbdesu I think it's more known for being the most daily driveable supercar, due to its relatively low cost, decent storage space, and Quattro AWD.
>>
>>28207790
>daily driveable supercar, due to its relatively low cost
?
>>
>>28207592

>>
>>28207824
>>28207803
Not OP, but what's the next most comparable Porsche, a Carrera GT? Those go for 1.5 million. 150k is literally a tenth of that, it's cheap in comparison.
>>
>>28207592
>Audi
>Reliable
Pick one.
>>
>>28207832
991 Turbos go for about the same price (admittedly in Yuroland, idk how much they are worth in Burgeristan)
>>
>>28207803
Look at gen 1 R8s, especially the V8s. They're a steal.
>>
>>28207832
well in comparisons one is produced way more
>>
>>28207837
Not mid engined or V8/V10
>>
>>28207892
I mean if you're looking for a V8/V10 mid-engined car from a company whose thing for the last 60 years has been making rear-engined Flat-6s, you're going to be disappointed.
911 Turbos fill exactly the same niche as the R8
>>
>>28207903
Literally the Carrera GT which I already mentioned, and 918 Spider as well
>>
>>28207716
>They’ve had a lot of issues.
No they haven’t.
>>
>>28207832
911 turbos rape the R8 in terms of track readiness, speed, luxury, and practicality.
>>
>>28207592
Too fat to fit on the road.

Though they might stay on the road around a 110MPH corner...
>>
>>28207592
catch is that it's no longer cool to drive one, which is the sole raison d'etre of super cars.
>>
>>28207892
and?
it still performs better
>>
R8 isn't a supercar lmao, it's just commuter trash
>>
>>28207955
Completely misses the point, people buying 100k+ supercars are usually either arabs trying to show off, a non-car-enthusiast just buying to make money, or someone looking for a specific experience that isn't necessarily available somewhere else. Why else would a Countach be a 500k+ car when it's objectively a steaming pile of shit that you could trounce with a $10k LS1 catfish Camaro?
>>
>>28207592
AC compressor lmao

>>28207892
Similar power, also AWD, can seat 4 in a pinch instead of 2, very reliable for something that fast
>>
>>28207803
the V10 R8 is like a Lamborghini Huracan but cheaper and less flashy
>>
>>28207592
It’s as wide as a pickup truck with Audi’s notoriously awful interior build quality
>>
>>28207592
Why would you buy this pile of shit when there’s the C8 Z06 or soon to be used ZR1s? Are wehraboos this retarded?

The catch is the $50k Camaros at the track day will be faster than you and their engines don't need to come out to change the alternator.

>Kia of Riverdale

nigga lookin at r8s in middle earth
>>
>>28208005
seems like common AC issues being the #1 talked about R8 issue is a good thing.
I'd rather the AC leak than a $30,000 DCT break.
>>
>>28208721
Replacing the AC compressor means dropping the drivetrain so it's like a $10k job unless you can do it yourself
>>

>>
>>28207777
Hmmm J series is reliable but what if the electric system fucks up? How much would repairs be?
>>
>>28207592

Audi is a reliable as VW and I trust VW as far as I could throw it.
>>
>>28208775
its not a german car, so i wouldn't be worried about electrical systems going bad. its kind of what the japs do best.
>>
>>28207592
>What's the catch?
Drop the transmission/remove half the car/engine out service for anything that's not an oil change
>>
>>28208746
sounds like I'm not gonna replace the AC.
problem solved.

There is no catch.
But the real hidden gems are the gen1 manual v10s that can be had for around 120k if you're patient. It's an affordable reliable midengine gated manual with over 8 cylinders that you can fix and service at any basically any regular dealership.
An identical LP550 is a 350k+ car.
Don't listen to anyone about the AC compressor problem. It was a problem on the v8 where it was difficult to access, but fixed on the V10s.
>>
>>28208912
why pick a Gen 1 over gen 2?
>>
>>28208968
The gen 1 can come in manual. The gen 2 does not.
There are some minor updates to the 5.2 and facelift changes going to the gen 2.
The corresponding Lamborghini changes are when they went from the LP560 to the Huracan.
If you want an automatic, the gen 1 also comes in dual clutch config in the later versions. Avoid the tiptronic.
>>
>>28208977
spicy take: I prefer Automatic transmissions over manuals in daily drivers.
track car is a manual though.

The only reason to buy this pig over a 911 is if you want to attract gold digging whores.

Reliable for a supercar does not mean it's reliable. It's not going to enjoy having miles put on it, and it's going to take a lot of maintained.

You have to think about it in terms of what the supercar market is like, and who its buyers are. Its engine is wonderful but everything else about it is very tame for its class, it's not rare in many trims either.

It has more character than a 911 Turbo of the same year, the engine can also be thanked for that, but other than that it's kind of plushy and easy and normal, it's not quite the experience somebody with 135 grand to blow on a mid engined car dreams of. You could throw it on 18's and drive it in snow if you wanted to.

It is still a supercar though, services and replacement parts will be expensive. Don't buy if you can't get two of them, anon, please!

By more character do you mean it is just objectively worse by almost every metric?
>>

definitely doesn't have McPherson Rear suspension.
GT4 are a hell of a good platform.
I see more of those than GT3s on track.

Huracans and gallardos, 911 turbos and turbo s, 570s and 650s, 458s and f430s.

If you wanna stay Porsche then even a gt3, or a gt3rs. Gt4s, 718 spyders also.

R8 is not special in its segment, it's kind of laughable you'd compare it to a cgt
>>
>>28211769
All those are at minimum double the price, and in most cases triple.
>>

>Unlike the 911, the Boxster/Cayman platform was designed with strut front and rear suspension (mostly to reduce costs by recycling the front suspension parts at the rear). Although the GT4 has a unique rear upright compared to other Caymans, it is still a strut design and is inherently flawed in suspension geometry compared to that of the 911 platform that has been utilizing Multi Link Rear Suspensions.
Nope. Maccas all round unless you buy an aftermarket conversion kit.
>>
>>28211390
An overboosted 911 is faster but who gives a fuck, you'll get gapped by a model s plaid somebody bought off of bring a trailer for forty grand at every stoplight. The R8's V10 revs and doesn't have much torque, you can actually mash on planet earth and not go to jail. It sounds lovely, and not like a vacuum too.

If you care about straight line performance in this decade you're a fucking loser and have never driven a fast car in your life, it takes a needless amount of restraint not to get in shit in both of these cars as it is.
>>
>>28207592
>135k for a 7 year old audi with 33k miles

you can get a brand new 911 for that

Kek. You are a retarded faggot. Holy shit this is the funniest post I’ve read all day
>>
>>28211997
The brits invented sports cars with engines that ran on post-war cow shit that were the size of modern ATV's. This whole idea that "sports car" is a jailtime magnet is very new, performance cars did not start really pushing the limit like this until the turn of the century.

Go out and buy a car with 400hp plus and try to exist on public roads with your young male brain. It's fun for a bit, it's cool, but you realize how fucking retarded chasing your penis pumping big dick bragging rights are pretty quick when you're cruising past a cop going 100 over and you think "You know what, lets run." Fuck around and find out, fast cars wont save you from stupidity and testosterone.

Better yet, go buy a liter bike if speed is all that matters to you. Being a cager is wasted on idiots like you who have no desire to entertain the notion of sense.

No upper control arm, no camber control, that's a rental.

Yes, that is MacPherson. Also why the hell did they run the exhaust through the wheel well, older boxsters weren't like that.
