Do you agree with this ranking?
What are some brands you would recommend avoiding at all costs, specially for someone who doesn't understand much about cars?

Just buy a Corolla or Civic.

CR stopped rating Alfa Romeo shortly after this because they became too good and CR hated that

It's not brands, it's models you need to avoid. All brands have either a black sheep or a redheaded stepchild in their lineups. And while some brands are better than others, the difference in the end is only really important at the extremes.

The one piece of advice I never see anyone give to anyone buying a car, is that you should buy a brand that sells in your locality. Why? because of supply and demand. For example, one brand I'm seeing making in-roads in the US right now is Alfa Romeo. I wouldn't buy one not because of the horrible reliability scores, but because what am I going to do when the car needs a repair? Don't let people bullshit you with 90s durabilty bullshit, all cars need a big repair once in their lives.

I don't see mechanics or shops that paint on the side of their walls that they specialize in Alfas, the ones that specialize in europeans cars mean BMW or Mercedes. There's no parts on the shelf, so even if I wanted to repair it on my own I have no way to do so, unless I want to overnight parts and pay hundreds in shipping, Your only option is take it back to the dealership. Who's still gonna charge you more because they need to overnight the parts themselves. Buy what sells on the shelves near you.

Highest parts cost of any mass produced company next to VW. In fact all of those "best" brands are money pits.

Notice they added crash test performance and road tests to skew the data.

How tf audi scored better than toyota
>>
>>28209571
Because Audi is better. That's why I have an Audi and not a Toyota.

These reports are garbage. Lexus is #4, yet Toyota is no where on the list despite them being nearly identical. Lexus is just a fancy badge with slightly nicer interiors. The actual hardware is all the same. These surveys just show you how they are paid to shill higher brands over identical, but cheaper ones.
