Due to regulations manufacturers are putting engines in new larger cars that are too small for the vehicle size.
I've figured that you need about 1L of engine for every tonne being moved.
The new 70 series land cruiser being sold with a 2.8L inline 4. For a Gross combined kerb weight of 5.8t (2.3t vehicle kerb weight with 3.5t towing capacity) the engine is less than half the size to comfortably move the whole shabang.
A 1999 Hyundai Excel has a 1.5L inline 4, weighs about 1t with driver so it is able to tow 500kg comfortably although When I have towed stuff it does get hot.
>somethingsomething despite having a smaller engine a vehicle the same weight with with a smaller engine will get the same if not worse fuel economy *cough* Japanese vans *cough*

You don't need big engines in europe/the third world because the speeds are so low and you can just compensate with gearing.

Drive a modern six cylinder. Rented a Wagoneer recently and the hurricane inline 6 is one of the best engines I've ever experienced. I'd never go back to a v6 or v8 if that engine was an option.

Tbh I'll probably never own a modern truck after feeling how nice it rides either. Night and day vs a f150 in comfort.

Try a V8 from a manufacturer who can make a proper V8 first.

The third word gets the 4L inline six
>>
>>28208677
That's still a tiny engine.
>>
>>28208533
Which one then? I've driven the terminator, bbc, sbc, small block olds, bbfs, Ford scorpion, international 6.4l, for triton, Ford 6.2.

When do they get good over a silky smooth i6 turbo?
>>
>>28208692
Try an LS, not a Ford with half it's spark plugs missing. That i6 isn't going to be silky smooth once you window the block.
>>
>>28208701
I've driven so many LS variants I didn't even bother mentioning it. They're old architecture now anyway.

Wagoneer is still better desu.
>>
>>28208680
In a 10t gross weight truck it would be.

The 4cyl mogs the shitty gutless V8

When I was younger, I spent a lot of time behind the wheel of trucks with ~120 hp diesels like picrel. We would load them up with up to 5 tons of cargo. I don't know/care the engine size-- probably around 3 or 4 liters. It was slow but fine. If you're not "comfortable" with a 200 HP turbodiesel in a truck that only weighs 2.3 tons, you're a pussy.
>>
>>28209146
They're a 5 litre engine in the npr.
Nkr has a 3 point something litre engine for ~4t gvm and they where slow as hell before turbocharging
>>
Even towing with my 4.2lr na tb42 was a stretch 3tonne car + 5 tonne trailer and car on the back
4ltr Barra turbo and na in a 2 tonne car could tow anything lol

Semis have i6s it's what belong under a truck hood

Watch Ronny Dahls towing test of the V8 79 vs the 2.8l 70 series. The 4 banger wipes the floor with the v8 and uses less fuel doing it. Towing a big caravan up a big long hill.

Based Cammisa shitting on it
WTF is toyota doing havent made a good car in 30 yrs
>>
>>28209236
I mean it does make 500nm of torque but for how long and where?
>>
>>28209236

Diesels are a totally different beast. You cannot run them too lean. The 1GD is a pretty good engine. My favorite Toyota shitbox diesel is the 5L because that is what I grew up with but the 1GD is in everyway a better engine with the only downside is that you can't home mechanic it nearly as easy. The variants of the 1VD can have the exact same tech as the 1GD and is actually more sensitive to fuel. 1VD is a first world engine
>>
>>28209246
Why can't it do it forever?
>>
>>28209283
Because modern Chinese made JDM engines are trash
>>
>>28208680
4l l6 has bigger cylinder displacement than a 4.6l v8...
So the v8 is a small engine by comparison
>>
>>28208528
I’m sure it’s fine for the 500 miles before something breaks and you have to take off the body or pull the motor to do literally anything.

Torque and what rpm it is produced is what matters to get weight moving.

NPRs have a ton a torque from off idle and monster gearing. Top speed it like 80mph downhill.
>>
>>28209518
Why not have both?
>>
>>28209455
While my rule of thumb is 1t per 1kcc, the amount of engine need diminishes with exponential power increase of larger engines.
>>
>>28209455
It's a diesel you retard
>>
Ohh Europe lmao. I can see why America is the only one to put tire tracks on the moon lol. You need HP to get shit done.
>>
>>28210599
Also a fuck tonne of gears help.
>>
>>28210603
I'm strayan yah cunt we got all the good stuff,
Light euro and jap hatches with bigger engines
Old F trucks from before 2000.
Idk I wouldn't really be mad if the new 70 series land cruiser engine was >3L rather than <3L although it would then only be as fast as an nkr.
>>
>>28209455
These used to be around 18 litres, they're now down to around 12 litres on average
