From what I know it was the first system to transmit onboard telemetry which was nice for old people who got lost and locked themselves out of the car. Also if you got into an accident it would call 911 to let them know shits fucked.

If you have a 2000s-early '10s car with it pull the fuse because they're stuck on trying to phone home to 3G towers that don't exist anymore and they're effectively a small parasitic drain.

No. Keep the fuse in and spam the airwaves. If they want all this telemetry shit they can have the radio pollution.

It's a BMW option as well in Europe since 2006 at least.

Back in the 2005-2010 timeframe they were also kind of like a screen less navigation and concierge system.
You pressed the button, and it connected you with an operator. Then you told them you were looking for a Mexican restaurant with good ratings and they would read off a bunch of ones in the area, then once you selected they would push the info to your car and the system would read out directions and turns as you drove.
Even then it was pretty unreal that they had people just sitting around waiting to pick up calls for “I’m out of gas”, “I’m lost”, I locked my keys in the car, as well as concierge services.
