250hp is plenty for a grocery getter
400hp is enough for a fun street car, anything faster and you can't ring out the engine before you wrap yourself around a tree
500hp is more than enough for a track unless you're seriously racing
>>
Don't care didn't ask
>>
anything above 300 for normal road use is overkill.

Depends on how much it weighs. 300hp in a 20 year old pony car could run a mid 13s 1/4. Meanwhile a V6 Challenger makes 300hp but runs a high 14s 1/4 and is slower than a V6 Camry because it weighs the better part of 4000lbs.
>>
>>28208923
Not wanting to be able to blow off the tires at highway speed is a signed of the low test in upcoming generations.
>>
>>28208923
Yeah pretty much assuming the car isn't obese as fuck (3000-3500lbs)

Everyone who disagrees rides the bus or has never actually driven their car hard (doing "street pulls" like a 1320video fag doesn't count)

Nothings ever good enough numbers mas atat max speed max power max. Understanding the world having a mature mind not being a human predator yours kids happinesss fuck that shit.

Number must go up

Below 15 lbs/hp handling becomes more important for the fun factor. There's never *enough* but that's where "plenty" starts.

If you are "seriously racing", you'll make whatever power your series allows
>>
>>28209572
If you're not "seriously racing" and instead are seriously racing you'll do whatever modifications you can skirt inside the rules and get your new friends the track/series management to pretend don't exist.

This reads like something a retarded zoomer who's entire concept of performance is based around instagram and tiktok would say.
99% of people can not make proper use of 500hp in a track car. You're that retard in a corvette or on a liter bike with no concept of track driving that gets passed by miatas and 250s on every corner.
>>
>>28208958
You seriously underestimate how obese the average normie car is. 300hp is just barely enough to merge on the interstate
>>
>>28208923
id disagree, street cars get more fun the more retarded they are, power in a track car makes it more difficult to control

>99% of people can not make proper use of 500hp in a track car.
If it's in some sticky AWD abomination with 2000lb of downforce like the Hoonicorn it doesn't really matter how skilled the driver is.
Driveability is about how much overhead you have, how dumb you can be with your traction budget and the car still be stable. If it's some 2WD (god forbid RWD) piece of shit ricer car with dryrotted winter tires, yeah you're gonna fuckin die.

I'm fine with 130 HP 'slong as I get 1000ftlb torq
>>
>>28209583
My sedan weighs about 3700 with me in it and if I floored it on a typical quarter mile ramp the 280hp would get above 110mph before I reach merge.
Same car on a flat drag strip would barely hit 98mph on a good no slip 2nd gear launch.
They're called ramps for a reason, most of em go down for some gravity assist.

250hp is a lot for the typical moron who has no understanding of the physics limitations of control involved at any speed limit.
>>
>>28209591
>2WD (god forbid RWD) piece of shit ricer car with dryrotted winter tires
In a smol 2WD shitbox, anything more than ~70 HP is just overkill in serious winter conditions. There's simply not enough traction to do anything with more power, even with high end studded tires.
Try to accelerate fast, the wheels just spin in place. Try to go fast, and you'll wrap the thing around a spruce sooner or later.

>They're called ramps for a reason, most of em go down
Post your bus pass
>>
>>28209583
It's called anticipation. I can merge safely with 100hp

Fucking lmao. I hate being european so much. My friends and coworkers are always saying “nobody needs 150hp, not even suvs” and “my car came in a 110hp version but 80 was plenty to me”
My car has only 200 and everyone thought I was insane

Weight is what matters. A Challenger weighs almost two and a half tons. A fucking Camaro SS weighs 3,700 lbs. That is pigfat no matter how anyone cuts it.
A Bri'ish kit car will be the closest thing to a race car for the road you can get unless you want to go through the work involved with making an old GT1 or LMP car street legal.

It sure is 1990's on here lol. You know minivans and crossovers are around 300hp? You know every truck has 400hp or more, right? You can also walk into a dealership and buy a 1000hp car for under $200k.
>>
>>28210873

Yeah and they all feel slow as shit and cringe. Next you're gonna tell me every normie and soccer mom is using all 300hp everywhere they go

>>28209591
Honestly even those AWD cars don't drive themselves. Most people can't handle turns coming at them at 2x the speed or hitting 150mph at the end of a straight. And often those AWD aero cars have ridiculous spring rates/swaybars where they hop/skip everywhere OR can end up oversteering everywhere (it's still 500hp in a light short geared car...it can light up all four tires or power oversteer)

for 2.5t 4000lbs+ barges like awds then yeah 650+ is expected

So you can run LT1 f-body trap speeds starting in 2nd gear....with only 280hp? Sure guy.

In the early 80s, 90 was generally enough, if annoying in areas around malls or on expressway ramps.
