Those of you who use cheap jacks and jack stands, do they work? i need to do some work on my 3600lbs car but don't want to spend a bunch of unnecessary money
>>
Don't cheap out on safety. Even if they look exactly the same the cheap one will likely be made out some something barely resembling steel.
>>
the harbor freight daytona jacks are fine for working on any normal car
if you have a one ton truck you might want something beefier
>>
Harbor Freight Daytona floor jacks and stands are really good.
>>
I always include "backups" when I'm under a car.
If I have it on jack stands, I'll position something else slightly under the car, so if a stand fails it will fall onto that and give me enough time to escape.
I'll use the jack itself or another pair of older jack stands I have laying around or something like that. If the wheels are coming off, shove them under the car.
Have literally nothing else? Pile up some solid bricks or wood or something, it doesn't have to last long.
If you're buying cheap shit jack stands, atleast buy them from an actual physical auto or hardware store with a long history in your country, since they'd be less likely to sell SUPER LIFT 9001 TON SUPPORT BEST QUALITY and have an actual REAL weight rating on it, a reputation to uphold, liability, etc.

The long reach low profile HF Daytona jack is a game changer if you've been using the cheepest small floor jack. I should have bit the bullet and bought one years ago.

I spent $220 ea for 4 3-ton Catapillar brand jacks in 2019, fully rebuildable, bleeder valves, foot pumps, grab handles, 21" of lift, etc, and haven't worried about it since. My jack stands are concrete blocks and 6x6 lumber ever since the HF/Pep Boys jackstand fiasco.

Spend the money once. You should do the same.

This. I know a lot of people with 3 ton Harbor Freight jacks that have found loose bolts or it slowlty loses pressure and needs more than regular maint.

make sure you buy the jacks with the securing pins.

if the jacks didn't work, would their owners even be able to reply to this thread?
