What's the quintessential 80s sports car?
PS no round edges allowed
>>
>>28209918
maybe the testarossa. countach was associated with the 80s but it came out in the 70s.
>>
countach
>>
>>28209918
Pre-facelift C4 corvette, specifically 84-87
It's a borderline parody of the 80's, literally [generic 80's sports car]
>>
>>28209935
the vette is too plebian the 80's were about excess.
>>
930 Gemballa Avalanche
>>
testarossa, countach, 930 turbo
>>
>>28209952
If you look at the C4 objectively though it isn't plebian at all. The pre-facelift interior really is quintessential 80's future optimism and the shape was privileged for the time. I think time will be kindest to the C4 out of all the Corvettes.
>>
>>28210417
Time will be kind to the Zr-1 the rest are junk. I think they even sold it with a 4-speed. An 80's car with a 4-speed lol.
>>
>>28210433
The ZR-1 is definitely at the top of my list right now so long as they don't shoot up in value. I'd like them to be as low as they were pre-covid when I was a teenager but hey, we can all dream right.

The base ones are plenty good though, if you're searching for power then I don't think a 40 year old corvette is for you. The pre-facelift manual was a doug-nash four speed with a toggleable two speed torque converter attached to it, so it effectively had an electronically activated high-low range. They're not as bad as they sound, they're plenty durable and I think anyone into classic cars has a certain reverence for good ole four on the floor. You're not looking for tech if you're considering a chevy from before the turn of the century, lets be honest here lmao
>>
>>28209935
This. Notable mentions for turd gen f body and foxbody (even if it's technically a 70s car)
>>
>>28210417
No, it'll be the C3
C3>C1>C2>C4
C2 is great but it's too jetsons-y compared to the C3
C4 has plastic and cheesy graphics. Kewl but not timeless, I say this as a C4 owner
I'm surprised C3s, even the chrome ones, are as "cheap" as they are now
>>
>>28210464
>foxbody
Specifically the four eyes one, late 80's becomes globoslop
>>
>>28210470
The c3 lived long enough to become a joke. Didn't it have like 120hp at one point?
>>
>>28210470
Sorry, C3>C1>C2>>>C4>other gens
>>
>>28210476
165, but yes
0-60 was lincoln-tier
Pre-75 still has some measurable power but 75 and up is for engine swaps, or at least built 350s
>>
>>28210483
>https://www.corvsport.com/the-5-slowest-corvettes/
4 out of the 5 slowest corvettes were c3 maybe you should pipe down and wait for a thread about shit cars.
>>
>>28210470
Maybe I'm just young enough to really be into C4. C3 is definitely more effortlessly cool in the way it looks, you're not wrong, I just find everything else about it kind of lifeless (I have not driven a C3, admittedly.) We're probably all aged out of finding the C2 particularly impressive so it'll be interesting to see whether it rises in value or the C3 keeps up with it with time.
>>
>>28210433
it was a 4+3 you fucking troglodyte wrenchlet troon.
Your fuckin pencil leg couldnt even depress the clutch pedal of a C4 Corvette so lower your tone when speaking about it.
>>
>>28210476
agree. c3's were the most baroque and underpowered cars from such a storied lineage of performance. There's not much to like about rubber bumper c3's but I admit the chrome bumper ones were pretty sexy looking.
>>
>>28210580
What are corvette fags even doing in here? We're talking about iconic sports cars of the 80's not outdated shitboxes for 70 year old child molestors in florida.

These are so cool, I wish more people imported them to north america.
>>
>>28210470
C3 had the highest highs but the lowest lows too.
>>
>>28210711
It's totally a 70s car though.

I'm not American so for me the C4 looks like shit. The ultimate US car of the 80s is the doleran DMC-12 for me.

Anyway some cars late 70s to 80s from a European perspective :
Lancia 037
Countach
BMW M1 (best look for me even tho I hate germanoids)
Renault5 turbo
Lotus esprit
Pantera GT5
>>
Mitsubishi Starion
Ford Sierra Cosworth
Audi Quattro
Mazda RX 7
Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86/MR2
Nissan 300ZX

In the US, c4 corvettes.
Really, corvettes of every generation are the quintessential sports car of their era. They're THE American sports car. The v8 strapped to a lawn chair.
If you want to talk about the car kids had a poster of on their wall, testarossa and countach
F40 if we're counting late 80s.
Z31 guage cluster is absolute peak 80s, but most people don't really give a shit about them sadly

>>

I don't care one bit about BMW but I absolutely adore the M1, it's just beautiful
>>
>>28211103
As nostalgic older gens die off do you really think C2 is going to maintain being far and above the most expensive variants of Corvettes? I have yet to meet a person under forty years old who even considers them, they're cool but if you sat a C2 and C3 next to each other in a car park, kids would probably gather around C3, malaise nonsense or not. It's not as though most variants of C2 were particularly mechanically complex for their time or performance rich, very very few versions of Corvettes could be considered "exotic killers" until the turn of the century, and those rare performance variants will always be expensive because r a r e until the end of time anyways.

Both of these shitboxes need t-tops to really hit that 80s vibe.
Hardtops are ghey af.
>>
>>28212053
>do you really think C2 is going to maintain
Yes. Gen X LOVES the C2, perhaps more than boomers. Pre-70's cars have a generally poor survival rate (owners + economy + tech) so C2s just have a lower, if still high, survival rate than C3s. They also made so fucking many C3s and the most popular years of it were the crummy late 70's ones for... god only knows why.
C2s will also maintain value quite well just because of pre-existing popularity and ratchet effect
C3 is due for a spike though, the late verts are already going for a good amount of money as-is

bunch of mutts mentioned chevrolet boat , so ? It's not like american even know what sport car is .

>lambos and ferraris
ferrari 308 and Countach are more 70s cars . Testarossa looks good and some poster is shit in real life

BMW M3 and Ferrari F40 could be contenders . But sadly they were built to late .

Also when u have free advertisement like pic , well ...

you can buy them very cheap but they are pretty unreliable unless you put alot of work into it at the start. starions are nearly nonexistant now, and 80s supras are now owned by exclusively mexicans ans have blown headgaskets. also if you get a zx choose the T tops and the red or blue interior. trust me.
>>
>>28213631
Why did you post a modifed one then?
>>
>>28213398
That directly influenced nearly every single 80s hatchback shitbox

Back in the day my parents bought an '84 ZX Turbo in that metallic blue. It was a solid car and a lot of fun. Very classic 80s vibe.
