I am looking for a cheap 50cc moped to buy for about 20 miles of commute and back twice-thrice a week.At first I wanted to get the Chinese ones on Amazon, but after reading about them apparently not being reliable/lasting long, I decided to get a used moped from a more reputable brand. Since I don't have any experience with mechanics and is quite lacking in funds, buying something that might break easily is not a good idea.I went on FB marketplace and found some good deals. There is :>2016 Vespa 50cc for $350>2020 Genuine Scooter Buddy 50cc for $799>2007 Genuine Scooter Buddy 50cc for $500The Vespa is the cheapest but also the most broken(see webm). Parts of it are cracked and the owner admits in the description "broken key but start up good and is in good condition".The 2020 Buddy is a little expensive in comparison, but almost like new.The 2007 Buddy is the perfect balance of affordable, from reputable company for reliable scooters, and does not appear cracked at all(the owner even says he had it repaired at a shop before listing). The problem is that the 2007 Buddy is located 73 miles away from me in a different city. The other ones are at least in the area and I could pick it up by transit. The hill from both cities is steep, so trying to go in bus and go back on the scooter might not be a good idea. I considered uShip but the lowest estimated quote is around 121 (average 211, highest 272).What would you recommend?
>>28210403>20mi commute on a 50ccYou'll hate your life.Get ready to use Karen's bumper as a headrest for half the drive until she overtakes you with 2 inches to spare. Over and over again...
>>28210403>The Vespa is the cheapest but also the most broken(see webm). Parts of it are cracked and the owner admits in the description "broken key but start up good and is in good condition".It should not be spinning the wheel at idle, it means the carb is way out of adjustment and likely filled with other issues. The proper idle speed is not fast enough to engage the clutch so it doesn't run off on its own, and people turn it up when other problems cause the engine to stall when idling.
>>28210403>I am looking for a cheap 50cc moped to buy for about 20 miles of commute and back twice-thrice a week>What would you recommend?Get a bigger CC bike, a 50cc is at most for doing food delivery on a 5mile radius, jesus.Look for used bikes like a Honda Twister or something like that, even a chink amazon bike will do. At minimum for that distance, you should consider something near 150cc, a 125cc would still work and give you good mileage per gallon if you are a poorfag, and considering the shit you are looking into, you clearly are.
Get a 150 instead you'll be glad you did. So long as you don't do dumb stuff cops don't really care about endorsement. A chink gy6 just need valve clearance checked and oil changed on time. And I mean on time because these engines have no oil filter. Other than that they vibrate but not terribly because some things may be out of round. The goal is to make it last at least 10k miles and save 500 bucks for a new engine.
>>28210403im so well versed in this topic im gonna fucking namefag so i can advise you. First things first that thing in the video is not a vespa, it's either a tao or peace (chinese) and uses a clone of the honda elite engine referred to as the QMB139 which is a member of the GY6 clone engine family. if you can get him to get down to $200 it'll do for short term. a Geniune buddy 50 is a 2 stroke made by PGO, a taiwanese parts supplier for Piaggio Gruppo, who owns and produces VespaTM. its immensely better than anything chinese so between the options you have already posted, i would go with either buddy. I also wouldnt worry that much about the hills. it might slow down going up but the CVT is designed for keeping the engine at the right rpm according to the load (within reasonable expectations).>>28210805this man is correct. Ive owned eight scooters now, half of them were 50cc models, and all of them did 12-26 mile commutes. It sucked shit.>>28210838this guy is also right, rarer issue could be clutch petal springs but i doubt it. imho if you DO buy chinese dont buy used. buy brand new because the NIGGERS who buy chinese scooters are poor as shit and dont take care of them properly. this things beat to shit on the outside, i doubt its clean on the inside regardless of what he says>>28212594>>28212616excellent point. im sure youre just trying to avoid the endorsement but the OTHER four bikes i owned were 150cc-300cc and i even got pulled over for lane filtering (FL) and the dumbass female cop said nothing about an endorsement. however, DO NOT BUY AN AMAZON BIKE. chinese is fine, but please get something from a good manufacturer, none of which sell to amazon. Taizhou Zhongnen is good, and they're currently making the Cougar brand.if you can find one in your price range, the Piaggio Vespa LX50 4Valvole, Piaggio Vespa ET2, Genuine Buddy 50, Yamaha Zuma 50 (the 2 stroke if you can), and any 50cc bike from Honda are all good choices if you insist on being legal.
>>28212709burned the 2000 character limit (exactly) so i didnt get to say this but ive owned and self-maintained scooters for 5 years, was a mechanic for a vespa dealership for 2 years, and am going on my second year as a mechanic at a chinese/taiwanese powersports dealer. I was so good at Vespa despite the kike who owned the place that some of his customers followed me to the chinese spot just so i could keep maintaining their bikes. btw, i know i already wrote that you shouldn't get amazon bikes, but i feel the need to specify here that unless you plan on buying an $80 basic mechanics tool kit from harbor freight and wrenching it yourself, you really also shouldnt be buying chinese from a wholesaler either because you wont have any recourse if the MCO is fucked (it happens very commonly) or for warranty situations. If you go to a dealer they'll usually have the developed relationship to each manufacturer to get parts and money for warranty work, plus they'll actually be able to title the thing so you don't have to deal with that monumental headache.basic recommendations for new are replace the chink shipping oil for both engine and reduction gears, replace the chink spark plug, and adjust the valves according to the vin plate (they come tight enough to grenade the engine sometimes from the factory)
>>28210403Look at Yamaha, then get back to me.
>>28212709>>28212709Not OP but High quality post thank you
