What is the go-to SUV nowadays?
I'm helping my mom who's in the market for one but I don't know much about them.
>>
>>28212687
are you trying to buy new? or are you willing to buy unkiked older models?
>>
>>28212687
Hummer EV SUV
>>
>>28212687
Either the RAV4 or the CX5, depending on her preferences.
>>
I should probably mention what my mom is looking for in a car.
>daily driver
>~$30k budget for new or recent model year
>reliable and cheap to maintain
>fuel efficient
>any size SUV
are any of the mazda SUVs or the subaru crosstrek any good?
my mom test drove either a cx-30 or cx-50 and she seemed impressed. and since i bought a car from them i think she'd qualify for a loyalty reward program.
however, i read that one of the mazda SUVs is a piece of shit that will end up in the shop a lot. i forgot which model it was.
i was just looking at the subaru crosstrek and it seems to be more fuel efficient.
>>28212710
my mom prefers new, or at the very least a recent model year with low mileage. but at the moment in my area it seems like used cars under 3 years old (that's the range she gave me) aren't cheap enough to be worth it.
>>28212716
>Hummer EV SUV
i was thinking about hybrids or EVs for the gas savings and the tax credit.
but I heard they're difficult to repair so the mechanics that do work on them charge more. don't know if that's true.
>>
>>28212687
Get an actual body on frame SUV, not shitty crossover shit
>>
>>28212728
>Subaru
>Fuel efficient
Absolutely fucking not. I own two of them, love them, but they drink like V8s.
>>
>>28212728
I think you're looking for a crossover not an suv.
Mazda is fine.
>>
another question. does an SUV exist that's still fun if you're exclusively driving it on the street?
even though it's my mom's car she always makes me drive her around and i might be bored out of my mind.

she didn't really give me a reason for wanting an SUV other than preference but she seemed ok with smaller SUVs.
i want to talk her down into getting a hatchback or something, and she liked the pictures i showed her, but if she saw one in person i'm sure she'd say it's far too small.
>>28212730
what makes crossovers shit? not being argumentative, i'm genuinely asking because i know nothing about them.
>>28212731
apparently the 2025 model does 34/27 mpg (~30 avg?) is that bad? i may be easily impressed since i've always owned older gas guzzlers that do ~20 mpg.
>>28212732
i thought crossovers were a type of SUV
>>
>>28212747
>i thought crossovers were a type of SUV
they don't really have anything in common
suvs are trucks, crossovers are slightly raised economy cars so the elderly can enter and exit more comfortably.
>>
>>28212730

Its for his mom. I'm willing to bet she's not going off roading. A CX50, Rav 4, CRV or Outback is going to be fine for her.
>>
>>28212747
>what makes crossovers shit?

They generally aren't as rugged so they can't off road as well and if they're unibody they'll be more expensive to repair body damage than a body on frame truck would.

I don't think either of these will be big issues when you're getting a car for your mom. The smaller crossover style SUVs like the RAV4 are probably going to be better for her since they'll get better gas mileage and give her a nice ride for every day on road driving.
>>
>>28212747
she liked the mazda, there really isn't anything better on the market
I think I can mark the thread as solved

Do you get the Dacia Bigster in the UK? It's Renault tech assembled by Romanians and the best value for money in Europe, if you don't care about status symbols.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

is your mom sexy? does she wear those black rimmed smart girl glasses that i like?
the correct answer is 4runner btw
>>
>>28212728
>are any of the mazda SUVs or the subaru crosstrek any good?
subaru is not fuel efficient but is reliable. my dad treats cars like dirt and his 100k outback still hasn't seen a transmission fluid change. runs fine, I borrow it sometimes.
I would still recommend an all-wheel drive mazda crossover, CX50 or larger because the cx30 is just too small to really make any difference, and if she or you are nervous about the reliability then consider leasing with the intent to buy if it runs well during the lease
>>
CX-5 is the best option overall.

Rav4 is a solid option, but the engine is rough sounding and needs to be wrung out to achieve decent acceleration.

Subarus: only worth it if you NEED awd. the touch screen is shit. cvt.

CR-V: ok if you get the hybrid.
