Would it be pants-on-head retarded to buy an old ford ranger for commuting 80 miles a day, 3 days a week?I could just as easily buy a prius and use it like a disposable car, but I like the idea of having a small truck because I'm a special snowflake and I want to have a solid reliable small truck. Also looking at hardbodies, but they all seem molested in some way.
>>28214371There's nothing snowflake about a ranger.Good trucks and popular with everyone from meth addict hillbillies to spic gardeners to professional desert racers.
I had a coworker who was commuting in one and he complained a lot about its gas mileage and how it handled in the snow, even with snow tires. For what that’s worth, though I thought he was it exaggerating.
>>28214371>buying an old truckBased.>buying an old truck to use as a commuter carNot based. Bad fuel mileage is the main reason. Also old cars break down the more you drive them. Trucks simply don't make good commuter cars. It's a good idea to have a truck, but I use mine for truck stuff. The car is the daily driver.
Love the old Ford's. But they ain't good on fuel efficiency. I refuse to drive my 351 without pushing 4k rpm on every on ramp in the f150.
>>28214371No son of mine will be drivin' no Got daym Prius, get a real man's car like a Focus or a Forte
>>28214371>Would it be pants-on-head retarded to buy an old ford ranger for commuting 80 miles a day, 3 days a week? No, be prepared to wrench and diagnose wierd electrical things.
>>28214371I say go for it. Any car purchase other than a Civic is a compromise in some way. Yes you will spend more on fuel and likely have to deal with some DIY rust repairs and whatnot on such an old vehicle, but it's the price you pay for driving something you actually like.>t. Owned a 2002 single cab F150 MOSTLY for the way it looked and sounded lmao. The utility was a plus.
I want one too. What’s the good and the bad shit to look for? Messing with a 4 cyl seems easier. Do those come in 4x4? Is there better years?
>>28214371I have thought about this - not for 80 miles a day, that is fucktarded as shit - but for a personal fun project, got dissuaded or just lost interest cause all of them are rusted out
>>28214371It's your money at the end of the day, but you're not a special snowflake, you're a fucking retard.Old Ford Rangers average about 17 to 18 miles per gallon, on a tank that varies, but on the XLT you posted it's about 19.5 gallonsDoing some rough math, with your 80 mile trip, you'll be filling up every week, and that's only on your 3 days of commuting. What about errants like food shopping? What about when your friend needs a ride? What about when you just wanna go out?All of it spent on a vehicle with cramped interiors, horrible seats, and no space to carry anything inside.Buy it because you like it, not because you like commuting, because if you're not using it for work, it's a small money sink.
>>28214371I'm meeting someone this weekend about one, I just want something for moving motorcycles, pallets, and hardwood. I would scout for v6's because the i4 is a dog. If I get ambitious I'll throw an LS in mine for fuel efficiency and highway lolz

I would probably opt for an Explorer Sport Trac instead for the sake of practicality or better yet, a Mexican spec four door Ranger

>>28216051>>28216053>tiny bed>unusable backsetJust get an extended cab
>>28216059he said he wants one for "commuting 80 miles a day, 3 days a week" anonthe bed size is null (and I bet you don't haul shit either)backseats are bigger and far more usable than side facing extended cab ranger seats which are nightmarish at best
>>28216073It's a truck. Passengers should consider themselves lucky to get a ride at all.
>>28216073Then get a Maverick you poofter.
>>28216076>confirmed to not be hauling anything>not even hoesgrim
>>28216079do you think a nigger eyeing a third gen has maverick money or are you just retarded
>>28216083If he has importing a mex-spec 4 door Ranger money he has take a loan on a povo spec Maverick money
>>28216091anon's final verdict: OP should finance a base model maverick because it costs the same (it doesn't)do better
>>28214371buy a geo metro. they're fun as fuck in a weird way
>>28214371>because I'm a special snowflake and I want to have a solid reliable small truckThen go get it, but you are not allowed to complain about the cost of gas if you do. Long commutes all lead to the Prius.
>>28216168>they're fun as fuck in a weird wayIt directly connects you to the road in an unpleasant way, especially the bad parts of driving. It makes you rediscover the fear of death every mile per hour it goes faster.
>>28216180its like raw dogging the road. damn I miss my geo
fine fuck it I'll get a prius
