In a couple weeks I need to jack up my car and do a bunch of work to it. I need to replace brake pads/rotors at all four corners, I need to replace transmission fluid, and I need to replace the coolant. Is there anything else I should do while I have the car in the air?
change the oil lol
>>28214522changing oil is the one thing i don't do on my cars. 1 too messy to save $40 every 3 months and 2. no place to dump oil around here. I'd rather use the energy to wash and wax my car after the oil change. That being said, I used to for a while but I also lived down the road from a dump and had a lot of free time on my hands.
>>28214524>no place to dump oilabout to say the same for like 10 quarts of ATF anon.
>>28214533you have a good point. looks like i need to get to googlin (and i just had my oil changed last week)
>>28214524Ask your local jiffy lube or whatever if you can deposit your used oil there, chances are they will say yes since they get a kickback for recycling it, used oil is worth somethingAlso it's not about saving $40, it's about the satisfaction of doing the job.yourself correctly with good oil and attention to detail. I got my oil changed once and they tightened the filter and bolts so fucking tight I had to use a jack just to undo the damn thing the next time and they probably used crap oil I don't want anyone touching or working on my cars ever again, it's not about the money.Come to think of it also does add upnto significant savings over the lifetime of your car, shits getting expensive and if you could save yourself a few hundred a year doing an afternoons worth of work underneath your car why not?
>>28214535Maybe also the fuel filter and the cabin filters for mechanical and interior fresh.
>>28214556fuel filter and cabin filter are good ideas. thank you
>>28214519Inspect suspension components for wear, check play in wheels, replace bushings etc as necessary
>>28214519Shock absorbers maybe
>>28214519WD40 the shit out of everything.
>>28214524return it to the earth
>>28214820>WD40 the shit out of everything.Wrenchlet.Grease all zerk fittings, inspect all rubber bushings, inspect metal brake lines, inspect for rust, inspect exhaust heat shields for rattles, inspect exhaust system, inspect for oil leaks, inspect gas tank, inspect visible fuel lines, inspect mufflers for holes, inspect subframe mounts, inspect motor mounts, inspect exhaust flex/thermo couplers, inspect transmission mount.

Gets another set of eyes on the car too. My newest car uses 5W-50 so I'm probably buying the oil from the dealership anyway.
