Who the hell approved of this? Was it really worth a savings of just 1%?

looks like you could easily put a chain drive there
>>
>>28216115
That would cost more, and wouldn't clog the oil pickup with flakes of rubber, conveniently disabling the engine at the end of the vehicle's lifespan, giving the consumer a convenient excuse to upgrade to a brand new financed EV.

This.

Idk about you guys but I am stockpiling late 80's to early 2000's vehicles in preparation for the day that people have enough and return to simple, easy to maintain vehicles without all the electronic crap.

No engineer would put a belt in oil.

Ain't gonna happen. Do it for yourself and no more, otherwise you'll be hoarding cars forever.

I do this for myself, my house has like 5 engines I like, 6 axles stored, tons of transmissions, tons of shitboxes everywhere and a couple new vehicles to just drive
I'm collecting multiple of every vehicle I like and multiple of every engine, transmission, transfer case and axle combo I like

I'd stockpile pre-computer vehicles, or at least vehicles with extremely simple self contained computers which can be ripped off in seconds, think gm HEI or chrysler lean-burn
Pre-canbus efi, while reliable and repairable, is a rats nest of wires and is just inferior to the analog shit in the long run

correct. accountants do, and threaten the engineer's job when he objects
>>
>>28216088

I just had my oil pump replaced last month at 116k miles thanks to the oil pickup blocked up with debris from the wetbelt failing to the point where it had no pressure at idle. The belt lost teeth as well. They told me i needed a new motor which was over 7k plus install(plus tip).
Ford in their objective to ruin their reputation said these are lifetime belts with no service interval despite over in yurop they have a 150k mile change interval and use an oil that was specifically designed for these motors with wetbelts, which we dont get here in the states.

It blows my mind that no one has made a chain retrofit for these. It even looks like there is room for a double chain. Seriously, 2 gears and a dual row chain upgrade could be engineered by an aftermarket company pretty easily and they would make absolute bank.

Dude, imagine paying over $40k for a new Bronco with the 2.7 only to have it die permanently after 30K miles because the pickup is clogged with rubber. Gonna have a great time commuting in the dealer loan vehicle that smells of curry and body owner from the last customer.

Smooth move Ford.

there is probably some design flaw in this engine that having a rubber belt "solves" (i.e. was easier than fixing the actual flaw)
i bet you would discover it quickly if you retrofitted a chain.
>>
>>28216187
Kek this, rubber belts, plastic engines, and McDonald's struts
>>
>>28217093
>design flaw
But anon I thought the engineers were never wrong? How could they design a flawed engine?
>>
>>28217103
>But anon I thought the engineers were never wrong
well then you thought wrong because engineers are retarded and are wrong constantly
>>
>>28217093
the design flaw was not having a shaft driven oil pump like every v8 from the dawn of time
>>
>>28216463
The guy said there was one in the video but I watched it last night and forget if it were honder or toyota or mazda
>>
>>28217192
>*shatters oil pump gears in your path*
Doesn't work that great for engines which are actually capable of revving over 5k.
>>
>>28216922

Is that something ford changed later because ive seen plenty of 2.7s with very high mileage with no issues in their lives.
Didnt even know they had wet belts.
