From my experience there isn't really a technique to master using linked braking. Its pretty shit to have when most techniques are based around being able to choose the weight distribution of your bike.

Automobiles have proportioning valves to adjust bias between front and rear so ou don't lock up the rears and skid everytime you hit the brakes.
You might get away with daisy chained brakes on a quad but on a bike you definitely need some way to limit rear caliper pressure.

For my bike the linked break does the rear and one front disk, so you can add some front by using the handle engaging the other front disk. But my break pedal a lever you have to lift your foot up to actually use so its retarded anyway.

why do shops hold the secrets of ECU flashing like they are medieval alchemists? Surely it can't be that difficult. I can flash my BIOS with a usb, flash my GPU firmware easily, etc.

Is there some open source tool we can use for flashing ECUs instead of sending it in to some shop to plug it in, download a preset based on bike info, flash, and mail it back?

I'm not quite sure where the light is from, has PAL markings on the inside so I'd suspect from a Jawa maybe, but I don't remember Jawas having these large headlights.

The only difference with linked brakes and conventional is when using the rear brake a single piston for each front caliper activated as well Meaning the 70-30 rule of front and rear brake is more like 70-45 due to the front pistons activating adding an anti-dive feature. The front brake is isolated and still like every other bike (at least for Hondas LBS) I'm just curious what ways folks use this to their advantage.

'87-1994 Honda Transalp PD06 (later year's refresh was built in Italy, not Japan).

Got this bad boy for 2.6k EUR with new tyres, carb ultrasound, oil, brake service and sparklugs, new battery + regulator incl. roadworthyness certification. Put 12k kms on it this year. Bless central european boomers for buying these bikes en masse in the 80s and 90s and keeping them in good shape for me to snatch them up when they age out of riding.

CBS has proportioning valves and I remember hearing Blackbirds had two different versions with different front:rear bias. CBS also only operates one piston in each caliper opposite to the lever so stepping on the rear brake gives you way more stopping power than you can get just from the front lever

Alien? It's Finnish, less alien than english is.
Anyway the question was what bike would I spend 3 grand on.
M-63 Ural it is.
I've actually been playing with the idea of buying a 3rd Ural as my "main" Ural is a 12 volt IMZ 650 that I've been trying to turn into a reliable commuter/long distance rider (without much success) and my 2nd Ural is an uhhhh something or other 50s KMZ K750 that I was thinking about turning into a bobber of some sort, something loud and annoying. I've been thinking about grabbing a 6 volt M61, 62 or 63 Ural as something to keep largely stock and original to make all the boomers jealous with.

When all other outlets are saturated by normienigger npcs and just getting internet access for the first time this century accounts AND the added drivel of ai infesting all spheres of formerly once were manned shilling operations, now we get the added benefit of grandstanding narcassists flooding all aisles of what remains in a limited attention span
Well for my brief stay i only wanted to bikepost and dream about creating a fanciful enterprise based on filming a roadtrip and picking up where TOTW1&2 left off sith added memes

Bout to throw the towel in because someone called me fag though, and relinquish my tripcode

How are you guys handling onboard GPS given that your bike doesn't come with one? I briefly looked into just shoving my phone + Gaia into a RAM mount until I discovered that it eats phones with OIS for breakfast. I have rock solid 65s, but that's for hiking and sucks for road planning/travel around streets where you might need it most.

Final option is just to give up and settle for Cardo + google maps audio + phone in pocket, but that's really only good with a locked in route.
>>
>>28217743
There are a lot of options, you could try that beeline puck thing but that uses their software, go old school with a tomtom or w/e alternative or go for a "rugged" tablet or cheapo phone which you don't mind getting its camera broken.

For the other Texas anon who was in the last thread, if the highways scare the shit out of you here, wouldn't recommend getting a bike here. You can stick to city streets and FM roads but everything here is connected with highways, you almost have to use a highway to get anywhere meaningfully. The highways here are a war zone. Absolutely.
There aren't really any nice roads in the mid cities area of Fort Worth where you are. There are nice roads out west of Fort Worth and up by McKinney, and further out east by Kaufman. But again, you gotta take a highway.
I'm assuming you didn't come from a major metro, where the traffic was much calmer.

I was doing what you described but I ust purchased this so I can have a rear view camera at all times but it's so much more. It's front and rear camera with recording but it also has gps, navigation, car play, etc. Made for motorcycles, fully waterproof. I'm going to clamp it to the stalk of my LH mirror so it's always in full view even when I'm full tuck. It's made to clamp to handlebars, but it should clamp around my mirror. If you have regular bars, it should be easier to mount for you.

Kek. 20 is the worst part of the metroplex I think. It's fucked and I feel like every time I get on it could be my last. I rip, but I'm always overly cautious there.

As far as ear protection, I use the generic orange foam plugs. Shove them in my ears as far as they will go. They work.

I'm just getting started myself.
I've given up on clutch up standing whols because I dont like how I have to loosen my grip on the bar to grab the clutch.
I've been trying to get the hang of just timing a spring compression squat and throttle dump. It works sometimes but the body movement and rhythm is hard to get consistent. I need more practice. I'm pulling too much on the bars when I know the whol comes mainly in the throttle not pulling the bike up. I've gotten up pretty high a few times and feels like I'm going to loop it.
Seated whols are so much easier god damn.

I got it, bros. The seller was a super cool old guy with a dog. Transaction went smooth.
It needs some work.
>carb/petcock rebuild
>fuel lines
>rebuild forks and rear shock maybe
>get into the wiring
I wasn't looking for a project, this thing is NASTY. I don't know how other XR650Rs feel or if it's warmed over but fuck, bros. It pulls the wheel up in first, second, and third with my heavy ass. It's not even a comparison between my DRZ, and the DRZ has cams, exhaust, and FCR39. So, uh. How do I learn to ride offroad? I've never ridden on dirt for longer than a minute, and the dirt is about an hour and a half away. I could see me easily fucking myself up on this thing. Fucker sounds like it has a jake brake on decel. Cruises at 80 like it's nothing. It's wicked.

I wasn't looking for a project, BUT this thing is NASTY. nasty as in it rips. As soon as I opened it up, I knew I was snagging it. kinda fucks up the whole buying strategy when that happens.
>>

Nice. I don't understand the rationale for making those big ass single cylinder dirtbirks in the 90s, but for us in the '20s, I'm glad they did.
>>
>>28217984
The xr650r specifically was for baja. big wide open desert.
Bruce Ogilvie helped Honda develop it with Johnny Campbell and friends riding it. I don't know anything, but I think the older 4 stroke big thumpers existed because the only way they knew how to make power was to throw displacement at it.

>but for us in the '20s, I'm glad they did.

Oh, and to make that power reliably in the air cooleds with longer maintenance intervals. lazy tractor like dual sports with torque down low like the DR650 and KLR

I just realized you havethe water cooled R and not the air cooled L. Given you're running damn near double the power of the xr650l or dr650, I bet it damn sure did rip, comparitively.

I wonder what the 690/701/700 feel like in comparison.
Also, with how crazy the XRR feels, it seems almost absurd that the KTM950 Super Enduro has 100hp.

I can't speak to their adventure bikes, but for pure dual sports, KTM has this habit of putting 50-60hp racing engines with service intervals measured in operating hours on 200-225lbs chassis. That's a very specific caliber of rider, and I ain't it.
