I agree it makes no financial sense to drop more than $20k on a vehicle. Maybe $50k if you want a nice family Suburban that is pretty new and will last 150k miles. Otherwise it's dumb and you should only spend too much money on a car if you have WAY too much money to spare.

>24 years old, get my first CTS-V (2014). 6 speed manual
>fast forward, lots of shit happened but by 30 I was burnt out right around covid
>already in a massive depression, lose faith in people as a whole because of how stupid everyone was during covid
>until a year ago I did nothing but wish I would die in a car accident or drink myself to death by accident, absolutely done with this world.
>catch wind that the CTS-V got a stick shift back
>BOY do I want one of those
>fuck, I can't afford it bartending and just getting by paycheck to paycheck like I have grown not only used to but comfortable doing
>Change life around, get more money
>need to fill the voids, start working out, join BJJ
>months later, in as good of shape as I have been in since high school. Not drinking. Getting close to dropping $95k on a stupid car that will just depreciate but I love it.
>Love the VROOOOM at startup
>Love the ass wiggle it does at 40mph when you drop it into 2nd and take off
>Love how going from 60-120 is essentially the same as 0-60

Now I have even begun dating again, and am on one hell of an up and to the right projection of my career. NOTHING could pull me out of depression until I decided I WILL have the new CTS-V (I will never call it anything else), and it literally turned my life around.

But its blasphemy that they didn't have a hoodscoop in this new version, so I would definitely add a hood scoop to my probably White, maybe black CTS-V

this is /o/ not moral support

a car is life and death if you dont live in a city

>a car is life and death if you dont live in a city
what do you mean? You saying reliability above all? LT4 is bulletproof and if you put some snows on it it gets around fine in the winter but otherwise just get a shitbox 4wd. Those are great anyway, there is nothing more fun to drive than something you don't mind slamming into a wall or something and just drive away because who cares

Being able to afford to run and maintain a car, even a cheap one, is a great motivating factor for many young people to gain and keep employment. It it usually the most tangible reflection of the effort you put into work. This is especially true now that property prices have gone up so much and young people are spending longer and longer renting before they purchase a home.
I feel bad for people that drove their parents car for years before buying one of their own. The first car you drive will always hold a special place in your heart, as will the first car you purchase, and when these two cars are one and the same it will hold an especially sentimental value that will never be replicated again.
I do think it is dumb to chase this feeling. It does seem to have worked out for the best for you, and of course for someone in a comfortable financial situation then it is no problem, but for most people in their late 20s or early 30s you should not be trying to gain positive feedback for the effort you are putting into life by chasing a car that is just within the limit of your purchasing power, especially if that means trying to buy a $50k car instead of a $20k car. By that age your effort reward feedback loop should be based on longer term financial goals and not depreciating consumer assets.

So you are telling us you are an emasculated, undisciplined person but still lucky and/or genetically gifted enough to get all the consequences of your laziness forgiven the moment you flip the switch? Crazy

nice blogpost, faggot

I do enjoy driving. But i am not 24/7 surrounded by cars like some people.

How do anti-vaxxers and the like have anything to do with your life? It literally does not affect you. Stop worrying about what other people are doing and get a real job. You were depressed because you were poor, worked a dead end job and achieved fuck all after high school.

I love my car. It brings me great joy just to look at it. I unironically go outside and smile at it when the sun hits the paint right and it shines. Ever since I was a kid, all I ever wanted was a fun car, a good wife, and a decent enough job to afford the first two things. That car in the garage is validation that I’m on the right path. Not only does the car help me make money by getting me to my job, it lets me see extended family I probably wouldn’t bother to go see if I had to take a train. The fun car means taking the scenic route. Not wanting a fun car is like living in a house with no art on the walls. I feel genuine pity for people who see a car as just a tool like a hammer. We live in a very interesting time that will ultimately be very short lived in the grand scale of time and it ignite the artistry and pride that comes from a cool car to me is like being a knight who doesn’t care about his horse or a cowboy who just rides whatever and never forms a bond. It’s sad but to each his own I guess. I’m just lucky I love my car.

I want to have a "cool car" at all points in my life. Never anything soulless or boring.
Can be the powertrain, the looks, whatever, it needs to inspire somethinge. I dont want just an appliance. EVs and hybrids are off the menu. So is anything with a CVT.
I dont understand your question though. how much car you can afford depends on how much money you make.

I like this. i have a cool car, but i dont have a wife or gf either but i want one.
I dont think my "cool car" is going to attract a woman, but a cool car gives me the confidence and mindset that i am capable of achieving great things.

There's people who care a lot about watches, sneakers, baseball cards, who pity you and me for not giving a fuck about those.
I wasnt always a car enthusiast, i actually became one at like 21... most people it seems were car enthusiasts from little children.
i didnt think my life was so much less fulfilling before really, but im glad i found this hobby.

Do you even own a CT5-V Flying Negro ("Black Wing") Edition?

Or are you merely hoping your life will turn around as a result of buying an expensive car?
