Why do people say that AWD is bad for drifting?
Sure, the "sport" of "drifting" is designed around RWD, but when it comes to the actual act of sliding cars around a corner, AWD does very well.
In fact, when comparing modern AWD rally cars (Rally1/Rally2) to their RWD counterparts (RallyGT), it's very obvious that the AWD cars drift far more often on tarmac. That means that if the goal is to go as fast as possible, you actually benefit far more from drifting with AWD than you do with RWD.
>>
nobody says that
but you need like 2x the power to move 2x the wheels, much less sublimate them against asphalt, so it's easier to build a rwd drift car since it doesn't need to be so obscenely powerful

A sliding car is a slow car

the amount of time saved by turning the car in the direction you want to go before you actually go around the corner negates the extra time taken on exit to regain traction. depending on the radius, beyond a 90-degree turn, oversteer is faster.

Correct, and AWD cars drift more than RWD ones because their superior traction lets you rotate the car more aggressively while still having a good exit
>>
Because it actually also goes forwards and not just jokingly rotate rear wheels

This. There is also the higher steering ratio of AWD compared to the equivalent 2WD.

my fwd i30n performance has crazy lift off oversteer. it’s fun.
c-can I play with you guys?
