Interested in painting the fairings on my track bike. I'd like to use actual auto paint so it holds up, but I did not realize how expensive this shit is. Figure I only need a quart but most of these places sell by the gallon. Looking for something pretty budget, not expecting greatness. Any recommendations? Local auto supply place quoted me $200 for primer/sealer, 1qt basecoat, clearcoat.

Check out Eastwood they have decent paints for budget and usually in the reviews people who have used it post pictures of whatever they painted.

Looked at this first but seems like they only sell by the gallon for 95% of their colors

Not even joking they have some of the best and cheapest paint packages out there. Color selections are kino as well.

you can buy a whole gallon of rustoleum for 50 bucks but you better not cheap out on the clear coat, also I reccomend buying a couple pints of black to darken it, it is the absolute cheapest conceivable way to paint a car.

If you go into an actual local paint shop you can get pints and quarts. I use PPG or Nason primers, House of Kolor paint. You can probably get away with a pint of actual color for a set of fairings.

Just about any exterior paint will hold up as long as you prep right. I've painted quite a few cars and bikes in rustoleum spray cans that turned out great and are still holding up a few years later. DA down to base, then mud as necessary without caking the fuck out of it. Surface prep should be 220->400->600. Since farings are generally all curves, get a cheap flexible block set on Amazon and take off the orange peel with 600 -> 800. You can get into hand finishing with 1000+ grit if you wanna get crazy.

Pic rel is the last bike I did with cans. IIRC, the base was Rustoleum gloss deep blue (closest I could get to Yamaha blue) and the clear was what I had left over from painting the foxbody behind it (which I did do with proper auto paint). Most of it was hand finished with a foam blocks, and I bought the sticker pack off Motox.
