Anyone have one of these far infrared systems in their car? Is it useful at all?

I've seen a few manufacturers like Jeep, Buick, BMW and Mercedes include it in some of their vehicles.

Are they worth the extra cost?

Also the reason its peaked my interest is because I drive in West Virginia and Virginia all the time, and something like this might help against the deer menace.

First time I have actually heard of this.
>Are they worth the extra cost?
Assuming it works as intended and not a buggy mess, I can see it being useful if you drive in areas with lots dumb wildlife ie deer.
If you drive in a city or don't go for drives in the country side at night I can't see the value in it.

I can't believe I predicted the deer menace lol.
Look at reviews and take one for a test drive and see if the NV is link to an automatic emergency brake system or any other warning or preventive systems.

In the F10 it's a stand-alone option I think. It's the only blank button on mine, the others being blind spot monitor, lane departure warning, HUD, and frontal collision warning

Shut up, nurb.

Infrared would still be superior

It's not illegal to drive with nods on.

Lightbars are cool but I hate how they always use low CRI 6000K, sucks ass.

you can retrofit early 'night vision' units to your shitbox's head unit
they just poop out composite video signal

i'd like a SAR + thermal fusion solution so you can see through fog/rain/dirt. probably stuck in ITAR limbo for a while tho

protips for deer:
>you can usually see their eyes from far away (they look like reflectors, but not quite)
>flashing your lights and horn will get them out of their trance
>they don’t typically enter where there are guardrails, but do enter where there are gaps, so be extra vigilant there
>the bucks will sometimes try to charge you

Yeah, doesn't really look like thermal is the best way to go with night vision on cars, since everything in the environment is the same temperature more or less, especially at night. An infrared camera would potentially offer better contrast from objects in the environment. Although oncoming headlights could blind it.
Honestly I think a better priority is to get a night vision monocular for a helmet like a sionix opsyn and wear that if you want to drive with your lights out. Thermal is important to have too, but it's kind of hard to see through your car's windows with that.

Cut your brake lights and run from the police.
