Care to give some more advice dbt, still in doubt about the 701 enduro. I rode one today but all bigger windshield options i can find for it include €1000+ rally tower and they are ugly ones too. On the other side I get can get a new 390 adv r which has a fine windshield, tick every single option including the raised seat for half the price of the 701. Both bikes are fine for my use case but if anything I’d want a tiny bit more power than the stock 390.

The dealer said I’ll get better resale value on the 701 but i do 12k miles a year so by the time I want something new it’s an “old bike”. Also the timing for the 701 would be terrible because the 2026 701 will get the ktm dash, like 15hp more and a longer service interval (and I get maybe €2k discount for the 2024 model they have there)
>>

I guess I just buy a used KLR instead, but I know the highway miles aren't going to be nearly as pleasant. A dream that dies early is a blessing, I suppose.

The V7 is such a nice bike! if i see them for sale i always take a look at them because they look so cool

>>28628181
well one is an enduro the other is a small adv, one will surely be more comfortable than the other and one is certantly more performance oriented with no frills. are you considering other bikes as well? is comfort more important than power for you? because if both are fine as you say you can still probably do some work to squeeze a bit more power out of the 390 and still end up paying less if the price difference is that much.
>>
>>28628160
Those are classy bags, anon. Your setup is basically the ideal V7 depending on windscreen preferences.
>>
>>28628194
I was considering the t7 but it’s really really heavy and found the 2 cil a more boring driving experience on road. Most say neither 701 and 390 are really enduros and that’s fine. I would consider any other 400-600 single that falls somewhat between pure offroad bike and minimal adv bike. Power is not really important to me on its own but the vibrations at highway speed on my current 390 get a bit annoying and I was hoping the bigger engine in the 701 would fix that.
>>
>>28628225
>I would consider any other 400-600 single that falls somewhat between pure offroad bike and minimal adv bike.

well yeah real real enduro bikes have maintenance level in hours instead of kilometers/miles.
I didn't ride anything that is not a single for a reasonable ammount of time but i think even with bigger size you should expect some vibrations anyway?

just throwing wild ideas: maybe an old GS with the 650 single like the sertao? or a caballero rally 500? the himmy 450 is heavy but they say it works really nicely if you want more adv style

You can have any bore coated, common in powersports to bring bores back to stock bore. If you have a hard to source piston in a size you want that's one way to fix the bore and match your piston as coaters grind bores to size. Cool stuff.

https://www.usnicom.com/ have done it for many years.

>>28628182
Buy KLR, tweak it to suit and if want touring bike buy one used too. Motorcycles are like orgasms, it's hard to have too many.

Define "high" mileage and look up specific years on BMW venues to see which are preferable. If a BMW was taken care of they're hard to wear out. Inspect fluids including brake fluids since people tend never to change those.

Since most riding is street I'd get the flat twin but do study how to inspect those. Asking on advrider forums as well as BMW forums would be wise as the ADV guys are more technically inclined.

Get the factory service manual for whatever ya buy.

Nope, had an old man make a similar move on me yesterday. Last guy out of the left turn lane running the red because someone was still in the intersection, makes a u turn and runs wide across 3 lanes into the far right lane, then from the far right lane he moves all the way into the far left lane with no turn signal.
Something about infrastructure with lots of quarter mile 45mph limit roads separated by 2minute long intersections makes cagies antsy

Hey guys, currently on day 4 of my hungarian TET adventure with the supermoto 701 and battlax ax41 on 17 inchers. Buddy with the honda left yesterday i decided to stay another night to finish the route.

Tires are actually alright, larger front would be better for sure, but the problem is the suspension and the gear ratio, suspension is way too hard and gear ratio is too streety. Still manage to make good progress on most roads.

Got about 130, 140 kilometers of TET left today. Bike is fine (for now), but both side panels where the saddlebags are are completely fucked visually. Tons of mud, lots of water crossings, one of them very very close to max depth.

Ill post pics when im home, hopefully within the next 10-12 hours.

Since all I've known is the Honda I like the idea of pulling up on newer CB generations. I think of it like siblings running into each other. The bike that I'm on is in a weird spot where interaction-wise it bridges the gap between old dudes with Harleys and the sport bike guys. It also draws a lot of older guys and boomers who go "Oh my god I had a CB (XXX) in my 20s!" or "I had a Magna!" or "I had a Nighthawk!" The in-between enthusiasts that like standard bikes usually, who aren't patched out Harley riders but were probably the pre-fairing sport bike guys.

It's been fun since I started riding in May. I started at the beginning of summer on brand new tires but I actually had to replace the rear tire a week or two ago at some point over 4k miles, next change will probably be both front and rear. It was the last service interval in the manual at 24k miles. The day before yesterday I replaced the handlebars with some fresh ones I got on ebay that came off of another CB1000. The first owner before my dad had managed to bend up the originals and the ebay ones were in excellent shape (sits flat on surface), as advertised. I kind of fucked up during the installation though, because I forgot to unhook the rear brake lamp power connectors and broke them off. Thankfully Honda left plenty of slack in the wires, so I stripped them back a bit and was able to drive the crimps open on the connectors with an ice pick. Re-crimped and put the rubber boots back on over the connectors.

Nvm, I'm guessing you must be riding a 125 or something and the GTS was the other rider. Man I was so confused, because even wringing the neck of a ninja 400 like that while having your legs ducked out would give you a good throwback at least, not to mention a lot more overall speed.

Anyone tried out a super tenere 1200? I was on the 1200gs bandwagon for a while, but I looked more into the super tenere after finding out it was shaft drive, and it seems like an amazing adv/tourer. My only gripe is the weight, but I feel like it shouldn't be unusable on anything but really rocky terrain or sand. Are there any other japanese shaft drive adv bikes made in the last 20 years? I'd considered getting a newer vstrom 650 or 800 later down the line, but I really want to do cross country rides, and it'd kinda suck if I had to replace the sprocket and chain every few trips instead of just fluid

checking valves isn't the difficult part, not even adjusting them is that difficult (depending on the way they are actuated). But getting to them is a pain in the ass in most bikes. On Boxers it's piss easy to access, as you can see in the video.

I'm not suggesting or arguing that, I am just asking if you did. After going through similar but not being injured other than more cuts on my arm, you should make sure you have photos of the bike damages. As the insurance gets to you ask them lead times if the bike is at a shop and you aren't working on it with insurance money. I would have saved a lot of headache if I asked them what was in backprder and what the lead times were on the parts in the repair order.
Hope you recover soon.

Neither are any of the ATGATT redditors either lmao.

Gear is for 120+mph ultra-squids who treat canyons and twisties like its the track, the only thing it saves you from is road rash, it isn't going to stop blunt trauma, and the only piece of gear that would stop hyperextension in any real manner are boots.

Marc runs custom gear you can't even buy and breaks bones on tracks with infinite slide off space, what the fuck do you think gear is gonna do for you slamming into a car or concrete wall?

If yamaha did what bmw does with their boxer shaft drive family, I'd be creaming myself. I'd absolutely kill for a 270° twin shaft drive sport tourer from yamaha. I've seen you can gain 20hp just from an ecu flash on them, and if they had that in a smaller bike, it'd be amazing with the amount of torque it already puts out. The only reason they haven't is probably cause of their 3 cylinders which already put out >120hp. For now I'm just hoping the future has more shaft drive and hossack/telelever suspension in it

Also consider the nx/cb500x they are less of an off-road adv and more of a commuter like the NC. Also cruisers, used shadow.

Don't get a DCT or a Ducati as a beginner bike. Check out the CB500X/NX500 if you want a Honda babytourer. I started on one myself and loved it. Also consider a Triumph Speed 400 if you want a naked.

For a cruiser I think you should also check out the Kawasaki Eliminator, it's got the Ninja 500 engine (also check out the Ninja 500, it's gudbaik).

The "LOL" bikes will all literally kill you as a newbie with bad throttle control.

I have now test ridden all the major full sized ADVs except the GS 1300 (couldn’t get on one, rode a used 1250), and the Tenere (I’m looking in the bigger size range)
So I tested in the last three weeks the GS 1250, Tiger 1200, the Pan America, the Multistrada (I didn’t test this one per se, one of my coworkers has one and I rode it with him on the back), the V Strom, the Africa Twin, and the Versys 1100. Out of all of these, street riding only for about twenty minutes, I think the Versys 1100, the Pan America, and the Africa Twin most stood out to me.
I’m near Philadelphia, is anyone able to recommend a rental outfit? I’d like to rent at least these three so I can ride them for a day on the highway before deciding.
My use case includes maybe gravel roads if Google map spazzes out and routes me down one, but for the most part I commute by highway and tour in the four to six hour range.
If anyone could hands on say the GS 1300 is that much better than the 1250, I’ll test ride one too but I’m sort of a shorter guy and it’s just very wide. The versus, a twin, and pan America were all narrow between the legs so they were much more comfortable at slow speed and stops.

Vfr wouldn't be bad, if you respect the machine and keep that Throttle hand chilled it'd be a good pick if you wanted your first bike to be a keeper.

If you can haul a 500lb sport tourer around and not fall off, you'll be able to handle most bikes. It's power is smooth from what I hear and very predictable. Only jump scare is the torque down low aside from that first 2% Throttle input its chill. You could also shoot for a 750 vfr for little less weight and oomph

Not a good idea to have heavy bikes with full fairings there. Not a good idea to learn with DCT either. Monster seems alright on paper but never tried one. Vulcan definitely is the good shit to consider here if you pick one with ABS, same engine as Z650 and that one is predictable, doesn't like low revs too much though. But overall it kicks hard enough for someone to learn proper throttle control.

>they could slam thousands of miles on with no chain maintenance
I really think people overthink chain maintenance. I clean mine maybe every couple months, slap chain wax on it, and it hasn't rusted at all.

Also hope people got the memo from BMW. All their shaft drives, even the old ones need visual inspection and lubrication every 12,000 miles and replacement every 48,000 miles. So two to three times longer service life of a chain drive.

i think next year im gonna build myself an adventure bike on the 690 enduro r base.
for what its worth, the 701 sumo did a great job, 17 inch front wheel was far less of a problem than i thought it would be.
what was annoying was the gear ratio and the hard suspension.

also: 17 inch wheels "clean" themselves on the part of the forks where you dont want dirt, so its kinda annoying to clean the forks every time you go through mud like pic related.

>enduristan blizzard saddlebags
great bags, no complaints whatsoever, you can literally pressure wash the dirt off and they still stay dry.
install and deinstall is easy and really quick, also when you take them off they are off, theres no annoying baseplate or anything remaining on the bike.
they could use a valve to make closing them a little easier though, you gotta force the air out of the bag when rolling it close.

>sidi crossfire II srs
ridiculously good. not a single time was the boot uncomfortable and i was riding 5-6 hours and wearing it ~10 hours a day.
really stable and feels very secure, absolutely worth the money
also waterproof.

>AGV AX9
great helmet, but next time ill use goggles instead of a visor, which works well with the helmet too
the beak or whatever you call it actually does something and protects your eyes from the sun, unlike with many other adv helmets that have a beak thats way too high up.

>Cardo Packtalk Edge
worked fine as well, battery holds up easily for a full day of riding and talking.

I like to practice panic stops when I have nobody behind me, but having to kick it over every time it dies, sucks. It does NOT happen when coming to a stop under normal braking and cruising.

Part of me still expects to crash tomorrow on my rebel trying to get home just from my luck and not riding for so long. Gotta hype myself up.

Possible, but also I'm paranoid because I take saltwater ferries semi frequently and I had a bicycle get eaten by the spray on that boat over the course of a few months.

Hmm, I wondered about the battery. It's an XR650R. They came from the factory wit no battery, but I did see a small lithium one under the seat from the dual sport conversion.
>stator
I totally forgot about that.
I hope it's not busted; it's a discontinued baja designs kit.
Thanks, anon. I totally forgot about those two; and hearing someone else say it, puts it back in the front of my mind. I'll test the stator and see if I can find a battery replacement.

Yeah i think i mentioned that last time before you started your ride, even if you did something much harder than my rocky mountain pass the worst thing is the hard suspensions, i assume your knees got a nice beating doing something like your picrel.

Look, as far as I can tell the truth of the matter is that there is nothing on this earth that we can’t do better with a computer and a robot than with our hands
Motorcycles aren’t about that. If you want to easily go from point a to point b while a computer does the hard bits for you, ride a scooter. Twist and go
A motorcycle is about man controlling machine like a man controls a horse. You should be in charge of as much as possible. Giving up how shifting happens is a major component.

100% your stator/resistor. Swap both.
Alternatively, if you have a hydraulic clutch your fluid might need servicing and when you stop you're stalling the engine.

If no hydraulic clutch then my money is on the S/R

Yerp it's your stator / resistor

Swap both out at same time it saves a world of headache. Also charge your battery, you've been eating it alive everytime you start up the bike with a piss S/R

Could somebody give me a few options for bike mounted center stands that fit a CB Hornet 1000 (2025) or a GSX-S1000 (2021- current)?
They seem to come, like most new bikes, with side stands only and for reasons I am really looking to get center stands for them. Aftermarket solutions are fine, I just can't seem to find them.
Thanks in advance if anybody is able to point me in the right direction.

Pic unrelated I just like women in armor.
