It's true
European manufacturing is now almost entirely owned by the Chinese
The Sportster sell-off was the last straw
KTM is just rebadged CFMoto
The Sportster is a Chinese brand now
It's unironically over

>>
>>28626434
It actually does matter because while China can offload and dump any low-quality shit kit onto Amazon or their own domestic market, they have to meet standards and inspection to pass the European market.

You're paying sticker price for that BMW tag, but it's not going on just about anything. Not yet, at least.

Thats a cute little bike. It’s like a regular cruiser but for children or something. It’s interesting to me how different companies come up with unique solutions
>moto guzzi: mounts engine sideways so it is a little easier to access when it inevitably breaks due to shoddy Italian manufacturing
>BMW: makes bike overpriced so it’s only owned by people who can afford to have it taken apart to be repaired
>Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki: doesn’t break

I’ve thought about it a lot bc there’s room for six bikes in my garage so I like to daydream about what I would fill it with if I could instantly have six bikes, and I think two of them would be guzzis, a v7 and a v100. Such gorgeous bikes, and so fun to ride

Most are but there's a few chain driven models that are highly sought after because of how much power loss a dual bevel system has (something like over 20% power reduction from the crank, chain driven models are only like 3% power loss)

I don't even like LCDs on bikes. If that shit breaks, finding a new one will require an act of god, and T-Boxes are linked to the serial number of the bike's ECU. So if the display ever goes out, may as well sell the bike for scrap at that point. Or stage elaborate insurance fraud where you leave it unattended in the bronx and report it stolen the next day.

When I lived in Florida there were a bunch of people who couldn't pay off the loan on their bikes who would then sell them on marketplace
After moving to where I am now there are people who buy who liter bikes or cruisers who get scared then try to sell them
Last week there was a guy selling a barely used 2023 Suzuki Boulevard Boss spec for $10k

Assuming you don't have a bike lift (they're like $130 from harbor freight so a good investment if you plan on wrenching on your bike) and your bike doesn't have a center stand - depending on the weight distribution you can use a regular floor jack to simply jack it up as close to the rear as possible. If your garage/work area has stout roof joists or support beams you can throw a racket strap over the beam, attached either end to the rear frame and lift it that way (also works if you have an engine hoist or some other kind of frame that is taller than the bike)

How do people with exhausts that run under the chassis use those things.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to use a jack but if that is the only choice there is then I just hope I can life the bike a inch higher without losing stability. I need to find out if the my plan of running jbs sr400 or guzzi v50 shocks is comfortable because the rebels have very little options for rear shocks.

How retarded would it be to get a hayabusa after picrel?
I see a lot of people talking about starting with a slow/cheap bike and working your way into faster ones, but I'm 6'5" and don't really fit on most normal sized sport bikes. I'm still in love with my DR for backroads, but its pretty strained at highway speeds (even without the extra stuff i have on it). I rode a VTX1800 and the power wasn't scary at all and I immediately acclimated to it, but I kind of want something that handles a little better than a huge cruiser without getting an ADV or tourer.

Yooooo, /dbt/. I'm just doing my bi-monthly blog post check-in. After messing around with my carb and air box, I think I have my XRR dialed in. I went bigger on the pilot jet, smaller on the main jet, and half a turn out on the AF screw, and put vents in the side panel. As the boomers say, it runs like a raped ape. A scalded dog. A cat on a hot tin roof. I went to the gas station on the first ride. When I left, I goosed the throttle while turning. I didn't think much of it, but it hits way harder now. The front came up, and the bars went all wimbly bimbly. I was all like WOOOOOOO but also like AAAAAAAAAAHHHH. So it came out like WAAAAAAAAAHHHHGGGGGGHHHH. The exhaust smells much closer to what it should be. I'll read the plug just to make sure. It starts easier and idles smoother too. We're getting closer, bros.

>If it’s in decent running shape and has a clean title that's a decent price

He says it runs and needs some carb tuning. It has a clean title.

>Lot of people overpay for old shitbikes which I do not understand at all but that price seems totally reasonable

Yeah, if it runs, at that price it’s worth the money to fix whatever is still wrong with it.

I’m a little worried it’s too big, but it that turns out to be the case I’ll trade it.
>>
>>28626839
A bunch
Their profit margins are going to be based around flipping the bike you give them. No matter how much of a piece of shit it is, it's going to be MSRP of it new + shittloads of dealers fees. So if you want to know how much they're going to fuck you, look at the MSRP of it new and realize their profit margin is actually going to be that - whatever they offer you.

Honestly I've seen them offer $1000 for new bikes. They fuck people over worse than Gamestop back in the day. They'll probably try to pay you in either value toward a trade (minus whatever shifty dealer's fees which coincidentally eat up the value of your trade, of course!) or store credit instead of offering cash. Honestly I'm not sure I would even tell them that you're trading it toward the price of a new bike.
>>
>>28626842
>>28626841
Also this.
Their strength in fucking you over is that none of their fees or prices can be compared with other customers, there isn't an online database of customer quotes from that specific dealership to compare whatever quote they give you against. So every number they give you is likely made up. Or it's the truth + an overhead to make it seem more legit. I've seen $1500 in crating fees on used bikes that literally couldn't have arrived on their showroom floor in a crate because it was ridden in.

Your mistake is the same mistake I made at your age.

That's not true.
You own something because you're interested in something as a passion, having a passion gets you a date and laid. Owning something as a personality makes you look as shallow and vain as you sound right now.

My advice, if you want to buy your way out of being a virgin, is to go to Vegas for a week.

the solution is to get a bigger engine than you need and don't worry about the wasted power. you're still 0-60 in sub-4 seconds.

Your lady/gf will enjoy riding with you trust. We go to the movies on my bike a few times a year, I’ve even allowed to overtake. I just can’t lean too far.

I'll have them quote my bike and see what they would do for a trade. Ideally I'd hand them my bike and take the one in looking at, I'm sure they will have me pay the gay box fee, plus registering it and all that junk. They've heavily discounted that bike and it's been listed for a while. That and it'll be the end of the month so maybe I'll make out.
If it's too much or they are trying to fuck me I'll just walk and private sale the thing.

I am planning on giving my cb500x another year before trading it in for a tiger 900 gt pro. I test rode a triumph and it feels just perfect and what I wanted in a bike. I remember going to Greece and seeing this Chad roll up on a type of bike i never see in the states. It was a triumph tiger. I resorted to getting the cb500x as it was my first bike. However after 2 years and 30,000 miles I feel I am starting to outgrow this bike. Thing is I already upgraded my bike alot and don't feel ready to part with it. So I will work overtime on occasion and use that money on the tiger next year.

had my first street "crash" a couple weeks ago
drunkenly misjudged where the curve was on a left hand curve and hit it because i was aiming too fast
the bike fell on my foot and leg but it's light so all that happened is it hurt like a bitch for a couple weeks

today i pass a truck on the highway and the wind gives me a huge wobble for like 15 seconds i think because i had all my heavy work gear on the back

that or bike suffered some damage from the crash

it might be good the season ends in a week or two, i'll enjoy it more the first week of next year anyways :(

Buying a bike to save on fuel is retarded. Modern commuter cars get like 50mpg cruising anyway, but have larger tanks so you can just fill the car up at once and last hundreds of miles, on a bike youre spending less to fill the tank up but have less range anyway youre just spending the money in increments unless you get some 125cc

It's time. I'm finally going to fix my zx12r.
Same spot as I was a year ago, I can't get the pistons inside the cylinder block. I bought "Permatex 81950" thinking that it would be a replacement to "Molybdenum disulfide oil", something the manual suggests using to install the cylinder, but I realize now I'm retarded and this CAN'T be anywhere near the same thing. This stuff is thick and sticky and isn't making this job any easier.
I can't find Molybdenum disulfide oil for sale anywhere, and supposedly "grease" isn't the same thing. What do?

I'm also still trying to do it by hand, my only other options are
>special kawasaki tools, ~$620 total for them
>taking it to a mechanic to attempt, likely +$200
>giving up and buying another engine (none for sale rn) or zx12r

>>
My bike blew up, it's a parallel twin two stroke with extensive port work done so I'd like to save the cylinder heads and drop new pistons in. I found a machine shop nearby that does two stroke snowmobiles so I think they should be able to handle it.
>send cylinders to shop to get bored
>order pistons for said bore size
>put it back together
Is it that easy? Any advice?
>>
>>28627356
You may need to re-sleeve it
>>
>>28627356
Oh and on top of a possible re-sleeving (please, please ask if there are any noticable cracks if you send the cylinders off. you may do all of this for nothing) you'll also need new rings, possibly new bearings, and while the engine is in pieces, check the connecting rods and the crankshaft.

"my bike blew up" could imply a number of mechanical failures and typically when an engine grenades itself, it goes hard. It takes out more than just one thing but a cascading series of failures. Also be prepared to break it in again and to off-set the ring gaps.

I just bought a bike that's 23 years old with only 7000 miles, garage stored. Assuming the owner only ever did the basics what else needs to be done to it? Does it really need brake fluid, fork oil, valve check, spark plugs, carb sync, etc?
>>
>>28627596
Why though? Was it running when you bought it? I'd look for new tyres, new petrol. If tank was not drained of fuel, it will be rusted to all hell. You'll probably need new tank. Better to change all fluids. Check all the hoses and change which one needs changing. What bike was it? Pics?

>>
>>28627635
Overall "condition" is less important than if it was driven semi-regularly. One would assume most consumables would have been replaced over the years but anything that's original will most likely need replaced.
>Does it really need brake fluid
if it hasn't been changed in a few years, yes. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and loses effectiveness over time. It's also cheap and easy to flush so a good idea to do so.
>fork oil
likewise loses effectiveness over time. Not as critical as brakes but I would be shocked if you don't need to replace the fork seals anyway. I hate doing forks personally so if the seals are good I'd leave it.
>valve check
yes this needs to be done if you want your engine to run properly
>spark plugs
idk pull them and look. Plugs are cheap so why not change them anyway
>carn sync
idk how does it run? Probably not a bad idea if it hasn't been done recently

>WELCOME TO OUR HISTORIC FARM
>private property keep out
"Family Farmers" are the US equivalent of the English Landed Gentry. Generation after generation bailed out by the Government after failing as farmers on inherited land. A burden on the nation and it's people whilst profiting from benefit Country music festivals to "Save our family farms y'all" all while driving around in $70,000 pickup trucks bought with money from selling the water rights to rainwater they also didn't earn.

Same performance as the 117 cup m8 (four more horses 10 less torques), but HD catches hate for “underpowered engines” while the gwing has praise heaped on it. Here’s some redditors dyno to demonstrate

Mikuni sand-cast the carb bodies for that particular bike. Maybe they do that all the time, but in this case something about their process left grains of sand in a passageway, causing something like half the bikes run lean and generally suck. The problem was figured out by the autistic guy who makes the "Factory Pro" jet kits. Mikuni fixed things the second year of production but by that time the baiku's rep was destroyed.
Yamaha blew out the remaining stock of second year bikes for almost nothing, kicking myself for not grabbing one.
BTW first year models can be fixed by just blowing compressed air through the carbs passageways.

Side point
I wish I fit on bikes like this, my legs are just long enough to reach the floor without adjusting my seating position and I always look very silly coming to a stop at a light
Would really love to own something like a multi strata with the adaptive ride height like the panam

I have a 2025 low rider s that was $21k OTD after tax & tip. I've since put on a $500 seat, $500 fairing, $1400 bags, $1800 pipes on order. I had never had a cruiser before (I've had several dirt bikes, an XSR900, 701 enduro, zx6r, etc.) so I figured I'd try something new. DESU I never thought I'd have a cruiser or especially a Harley but it's by far the most enjoyable motorcycle I've had for day to day riding on public roads and highways.

MSRP is $20,499. So after taxes, title, freight, registration etc. $21k total is getting got? Have you ever bought a new vehicle? What do you think would have been great? Also, it was only $21k total. Would an extra $2-3k be worth the time and effort? Not for me. Maybe for you.

+1 for the ladder, i reccomend two ratchet straps so that you can load/unload them easily and safely a bit at a time. you might want to swap the kickstand depending on how big of a difference the new shock makes

You have your shit flipped. Left leg should go down first at a stop, both if waiting, but the right should be up because the rear brake is there.

you deserve to fail, because when youre stopped you should be out of gear (or holding the clutch in) and covering your footbrake in case you get rear ended
if someone crashed into you, and you were over your gears, theres a chance you kick it into gear and the bike launches, causing even more damage

youre probably brown because you cant fathom second order effects

Is anyone else getting increasingly impatient with traffic and signals? I have been riding for 2 years now and find myself getting more and more easily agitated by the mere presence of traffic. Mind you I live in boston where alot of people floor it when the light turns yellow because traffic sucks that much. This morning I ran into a school bus picking up kids and had to stop. I was seething internally. I cant help it. It's been getting worse.

>>28627896
To be fair, that is a different thing to do than having your default be both feet down at once on stop.
>>28627962
People are slower on the roads than ever because they frequently get distracted. Even those who don't text n drive still get distracted by a notification sound they're holding the line up.
>>28627956
If you get rear ended you got a lot more to worry about than your foot on the brake anon. Infact it'd be better (if in neutral) to roll with the impact versus tanking it statically. However if in gear, yeah big no no.

try in 15 a town that used to be 96% white, thats had a population increase of 60k to 100k, with the town now being close to 70% white, and that 30% being african niggers who get their license in kenya, which for some reason your govt automatically accepts as the same standard of driver education and worthiness as a native license

some days I just wish I could drive a killdozer through my town and ram every thirdie off the road and crush their skulls like a watermelon, but alas, I am banned from leaving the house for making facebook posts

I use my right foot because scooter rear brake is operated with right hand, not right foot.

Ergo, twist & go is for street riding. Changing gears is for the race track (where you're not supposed to stop).

you don't need to lift it at all. You just unbolt the top & bottom bolt and pull it out(thats the hard part).

I was taught to stop at an angle always in case I get read ended
That way you’re pushed between lanes or into the shoulder instead of being turned into a pancake
Not sure if it would matter
I don’t lane split or filter bc I promised my mommy I wouldn’t when I got my license (I was still a teenager at the time)
>>
>>28628033
>That way you’re pushed between lanes
that doesnt seem very safe, if theres an active/running lane beside you
>>
>>28628033
if it was me i'd be stopped at a 45° angle facing the direction i intend to travel.
i monitor my mirrors and if i think i'm about to be rear ended i can move away to either side instead of forward and potentially into traffic.
