I have a question.
I’ve never driven a 500HP RWD sports car IRL, and I’m kinda shocked at how tail happy the M4 CSL and Camaro ZL1 are in Assetto Evo.
Like, even on the stickiest tire compound (Hypercar) I can’t even full throttle in a straight line without snap oversteering out of the blue.
Is this normal? Do I basically have to fight the rear at all times?
>>
>>28655188
0.3 has tanked performance so hard I can't even play the game at 1080 with low graphics to call you bad with a webm
Anyway, be more gradual with the accelerator
>>
>>28655188
in a real car you can feel the back end kicking out so its alot less difficult. none of the games get it quite correct either. I spin sometimes with like 10% throttle applied where in real life it wouldnt happen.
>>
>>28655188
well first off

>snap oversteer
that is not snap oversteer
snap oversteer is when you go to correct some mild oversteer but you correct too much and end up snapping in the opposite direction
snap oversteer is commonly an MR/RR trait and does not generally occur with FR cars. what you are experiencing is just "normal oversteer" compounded by a lack of skill, attentiveness, common sense, or all three.
Consider for example, countersteering against the oversteer instead of sitting there like you're in a coma. Another possible solution is, instead of pressing the gas pedal to 100% and then holding it there while the car loops around in circles like an alzheimer's patient, lift your foot from the gas pedal when the car begins to rotate.

you will find, as many often do, that because cars move quickly, you will have to predict and presume faster than your usual, pedestrian pace, which may seem daunting at first. but i assure you, turning the steering wheel or pressing the brake before you think you need to is much much faster than doing it too late.
>>
just play LMU or iRenting. I tried assevo last night and the physics felt so fucking wrong lmao, it's like I was playing ams2 or something. It's hard to believe kunos made ac1 and they go ahead and churn out slop like this. ACC honestly feels pretty bad too

>>
>>28656060
why though?
I can rev to like 8k or something.

Because by the time you hit 8k you could have been in a higher gear, keeping your engine at its peak performance, probably preparing for another upshift.
>>
>>28656074
No I'm not asking why I should upshift while being in the powerband. That part is obvious.
I'm asking why is the powerband at 3500 to 5000, instead of being near the redline like most every other car?

It's not AWD. It's the car's powerband.
You ideally want your shift point to be a bit past the peak of the powerband so that you stay in the powerband when you hit the next gear.
And, of course, you don't want the peak power to be right at redline because you're probably getting against an RPM limiter or fuel cut.
And besides all that, it's a Turbo Subaru. Those engines don't like to rev. It's not a Honda.

can you like stop recording your tv screen with your phone or something?
doesn't the playstation literally have a share button on the controller that takes screenshots and video?
also you can make longer webms if you make them slightly smaller instead of uploading 10-second long grainy 1920x1080 videos of the most mundane and boring driving ever. just doing 540 or 420-height webms will effectively double the length you can post and also allow you to generate them much faster.
>>
>>28656144
>It's not AWD
it's not that I think AWD caused it, i just mentioned it as an intro
>And, of course, you don't want the peak power to be right at redline because you're probably getting against an RPM limiter or fuel cut.
all other cars I've experienced have a powerband that leads up, close to the redline So like the top 80-90% of the odometer.
This subaru fucking wants to shift at like 50%.
It's bizarre.
Also it makes shifting a pain as I can't just use my ears to determine the perfect point to shift.

it would be less boring because you can see how a piece of driving evolves over the course of a few corners. you don't drive very interestingly or particularly fast, you're kind of like watching an ai drive, and viewing your driving in short 10 second clips doesn't really help

>No, you're getting bootleg kino
it's not really kino, your driving is dull and cautious, your cornering is pedestrian and unimpressive, you just look like an underage kid who doesn't know how to use his computer or drive a car who just recently learned that if you steer away from the trees you don't crash into them.

>Mater of perspective.
you are painfully slow at driving and very uninteresting to watch, your webms are of poor quality and wastefully large. my perspective is that you are a buffoon and i'm most certainly not the only one who came to that conclusion. i'm not trying to be an ass, i just don't see how you can actually enjoy setting up your phone to record off a tv and spending what must be at least 5 minutes generating a hilariously inefficient 10 second clip of absolutely nothing interesting happening

its turbo is too small and drops off before redline. say the light comes on at 5000 but redline is at 7000 youd still bring it to redline but instead of having 200 hp at 5000 youd have 150hp by 7000 for example. its still propelling the car forward. usually with cars that drop off from a small turbo have a steep torque curve . better used hill climbing and on tight tracks vs drag racing

So it's due to the turbo being small? Hmm
I'm not exactly an expert on turbos, but don't they feed on exhaust gas? So shouldn't higher rev push in more exhaust and thus more air?
Or trubos can be made to give turbo in a specific rev range? It was my assumption they all just kinda work better the more revs you got.
Well this is troublesome, I'm going to have to rethink how to set the gears to best utilize it.

the overarching stories are pretty depressing sometimes
Silver Nobleman's brother died racing Phantom9, his team broke apart after losing to Snake Eyes and he became so obsessed with revenge that his wife left with their kid and joined her brother's team
then he gets cucked out of revenge twice by the protagonist in ITC and TXR25
>>

Honestly, relative to the usual racing game standards the writing in TXR is pretty decent. Some of these lines would have never even gotten near a contemporary 2020+ western released racing title, even (especially) in the indie-sphere.

FLAT IS JUSTICE
>>
>>28656867
The first thing that hit my mind is that you are taking a hairpin uphill.
So chance of spinning out is much lower, in fact the expected default behavior is that you undercook, rather than overcook.
But you approach it like an acute angle with more rotation.
Which could work if you did the same maneuver at the apex of the turn.
If you wanted to send the car into such heavy rotation and continue the drift, you'd have to counter steer a lot and fast to catch it too. If you are doing 900deg then it would be quite hard task.
Which is why I personally go for limited slip angles. But who am I tell you to abandon your dreams of big sweeping drifts.

yes but to a point. the turbo can only blow so much air before it heats up too much. larger turbo will take more effort to spin up but will also blow much more air before it reaches that same point of overheating the air.

I just did some tests.
Used onscreen OSD to show me turbo, speed and rpms.
The turbo bars keeps going up all the way to the redline.
As for shifting up when the game tells me to vs against a redline.
The speeds are pretty similar with an advantage for early shift in terms of top speed in a straight line vs redline, which probably would do better in a variable turns environment.

Turbo is at 1.5 bar at the suggested shift point 6000rpm.
And goes up to 2.5 bar when redlining to 8000 RPM

compare it to like a stratos that redlines at 8500 and suggested shift point is 8000

At this point I'm starting to question things.

For instance the choice between two car choices in N4 category.
one is, cheaper, has more horsepower, less weight.
Why would you ever choose the Subaru over the Mitsubishi? Like genuinely, what am I missing in this equation?

And then, why would I use these fat pigs that are slower than a stratos.
I guess stability over rough bumps and jumps, and the ability to pull themselves out of shit with AWD? But it comes at the cost of being heavier by more than half a ton.

Straight line tests how average speed of
155km for subaru
165 for mitsu
and 170 for stratos

Boost pressure is more relative to the size of the turbo. 20 psi on a little guy can make the same power as 8 psi on a larger turbo the fall off wont be there on the larger unit though because its not maxed out.

>I think a short and concise webm, with higher resolution, bitrate and a stylized distortion looks better.
There is a filesize limit so in making the image larger you are in fact losing bit rate
furthermore the pixel grid of your television creates areas of high contrast in the final video which also increases the filesize and necessarily lowers your bit rate on conversion to fit within the limit.
finally, the blur and pixel grid are not stylization, they are you being lazy. They do not look good and make the image extremely unpleasant to view, very much like having my eyeballs sandpapered

>Webm related is far more productive in my opinion.

posting from my phone now I see what you mean, but the problem is when you open these on a PC they are about 8x larger than they are a phone screen and look like pure dog dookie because you insist at generating them at full HD instead of the minimized 540p your phone is actually displaying them at. so you are posting images that look good only to you when views specifically on your phone. Everyone else just sees a blurry, overexposed, washed out color, pixelated mess.

>resolution increases bitrate

except there is a filesize limit so that isn't how it works

High contrast areas and high detail create larger images because you need a higher bitrate to represent them. Videos with lower framerate, more motion blur and less contrast differential tend to make for smaller filesizes and actually look better under compression. It's JPEG my guy, lossy compression. That is indeed how it works.

>the rest of this cope
the fact of the matter is you seem to be interested in flooding the thread with low quality content
the fact that you functionally cannot tell the difference between a hand painting and you simply being an ass and recording a television with your phone because you are too lazy to pull the video off your Playstation's built in screen recorder is just so stupid and asinine I can't for a moment imagine you're being genuine.

> If you absolutely MUST have pixel grids and motion blur and chromatic abberation at least learn now to work davinci or capcut and throw a filter on it.

which is why CRT with composite cables produces better effects than any CRT filters can.

>except there is a filesize limit so that isn't how it works
If you take a tiny resolution, and put a billion bitrate for it to use.
It will only use a small portion because it's limited by it's maximum resolution.
To put it in other terms. Cup size is the resolution size. Bitrate is how much water you put into it.
And sharpness of a video is how much of that cup is full.
Bigger cups, can hold more water.
Small cups can be filled more easily.
But you telling me that a 2 liter cup filled with 1 liter water has less water in it than a liter cup filled with a liter is just dumb.

I hope that example was simple enough for you to understand.
If it still didn't work, then take my big webm, and reduce the resolution to a small size, just drag the window to be smaller.
HINT: You aren't increasing the bitrate of the video with this effect.
>High contrast areas and high detail create larger images because you need a higher bitrate to represent them.
thats now how it works.
>Videos with lower framerate, more motion blur and less contrast differential tend to make for smaller filesizes and actually look better under compression.
What affects compression for webms is change of pixels.
You can have high contrast and static image and it will compress just fine.
Or in otherwords, the less stuff changes on the screen, the less motion there is, the easier it is to maintain quality.

>the fact of the matter is you seem to be interested in flooding the thread with low quality content
>I can't for a moment imagine you're being genuine.
Are you genuinely mentally ill dude? You make up stories in your head, you get mad over them, then you lose all sense of self awareness and do the literal thing you complain about others doing.

>please do not post in this thread any longer. Your low quality content and your disingenuous and actively hostile participation in this thread was never desired and is no longer required.
>>
>>28658218
Woah, we don't have such high production value.
Otherwise I'd use a CRT monitor and a high quality camera to convey the desired effect.
>>
I don't understand how someone could get so defensive over shit webms, it's not like they take any effort to make. kind of the issue though since they take no effort midwits like this guy think the inherent over compressed shittiness of the format is some kind of retro aesthetic and making visual vomit is their idea of style

I grew up with crts and vhs players and I love that shit. but what this anon is posting is not that, it looks faker than filters and has many artifacts and stutters from the telecine created by the difference in refresh rates of the camera and display.

the way to do these webms would be to connect a VCR to a capture card, play the game while recording to tape, then playback and digitally record the analog tape and covert that recording to webms. Alternately recording that playback off a real CRT display with your phone to really get the phosphors and scan lines would be cool, but that wasn't done.the webms are of an LCD display that lacks any CRT aesthetic or soul. You're not fooling anyone, kid.

In your cup of water analogy you fail to recognize that on 4chan all the cups are exactly 4 mb and that bits compress and water, as a matter of fact, does not. So in a 4 mb "cup" you may in fact fit more compressed bits than the equivalent amount of water, or uncompressed bits.
The compressed "drink" has more actual liquid in it than the uncompressed one. In essence you are handing me a 16 oz glass of tap water and telling me it is the same thing as a 2 oz shot glass of 100 proof whisky.

No, child, it is not.

>>
>>28658229
>If it still didn't work, then take my big webm, and reduce the resolution to a small size, just drag the window to be smaller.

that isn't how 4chan works, your webms open inline at full resolution and there are no scaling options for this display mode.

>What affects compression for webms is change of pixels.

yeah, and in adding a pixel grid to the output by recording off a screen you are adding additional black pixels to be compressed instead of the actual image you want to show.
real motion blur helps by making it so the pixels don't change color or luminance so rapidly, but your webms have persistence from the LCD pixels and not actual motion blur so your images are jittery and painful to look at.

finally your analogy is flawed.
the capacity of a cup is analogous to the maximum filesize allowed, resolution is like the diameter of the cup. Bitrate is the depth of the cup.
an 8 oz plate and a 8 oz glass hold the same amount of water, but drinking water from a plate is fucking stupid, even if technically the larger diameter of the mass of water on the plate makes it easier to put your face in the container and suck water out of it like an animal. If all you are interested in is how much liquid you can inhale at once, a plate is better.
if you're actually trying to enjoy the drink, a glass is better.

snap oversteer is when in corner you have understeer and you lift throttle and suddenly you get oversteer
>>
>>28659858
that's just called oversteer you fwd brainlet
snap oversteer is what happens when you overcorrect that exact situation

in an FR car it's okay to overcorrect a bit, but with MR if you do the same pedal and steering dance you will rotate the other way with so much momentum it's impossible to stop and the car spins out and you crash. That is snap oversteer. Lift-off oversteer is just oversteer. There's no snap, you're just retarded and don't know it would do that.

very nice shakycam phone anon
my only suggestion now would be to use a pro mode if your phone has it to lock the auto exposure, that way you get consistent contrast thru the whole vid

and how does that stop you, personally?
>dirt 4 had really weird physics when I played it years ago at release during my rallybab days
dirt 4 is really good for newbies with it's tutorials, freeroam area to test setups, practice car control etc.
Also nice carrer mode.
Lastly you can generate new stages constantly so you never have to keep replying the same stages and memorizing shit inadvertently.

It's only real downsides is the pacenotes arent hand customized for each stage and thus aren't as good as they could be.
Besides that I think they really did good. Oh and add more locations.

Why don't they just use OBS?
>>
>>28660163
they're on console, but it's not hard to record footage there either. all you need is a USB drive to transfer it to a pc
>>
this isn't a matter of taste
you are just a moron
you record off your TV because you are lazy and won't/can't use the screen recorder built into your console.
you make short webms because your arm gets tired from holding your phone up
you "like" the blown out exposure, moire effect and tearing/stuttering because that's just what you get when you record a shitty 60hz chinese television with a phone.
you insult art by pretending any of this cope has artistic intent or aesthetics. it looks like some yob recorded dirt 4 replays with his phone. that's literally what it is.
>>
>>28660174
>you make short webms because your arm gets tired from holding your phone up

>>
>>28660174
Not that guy but my webms are short because I am bad at ffmpeg.
>>
>>28660163
I personally would even mind the shit webms if they were of something interesting but it's just a gr.n car driving by itself at night on a generated stage.
if I wanted to watch a subaru owner fart around below the speed limit and act like nobody but them exists I would just go outside and get on the highway
>>
>>28660182
why are you using straight ffmpeg and not a gui like webm for retards or boram

it's not 2014 anymore you know

>>28660140

>>
>>28660184
I use webm for retards but I assumed the reason why other people get prettier longer webms than me was because they knew how to tweak more things with the cli that aren't available in the retards gui.

>>
>>28660192
It's partly that but there are other tools, and Webm for Retards can have ffmpeg arguments types manually into it exactly like a command line

personally I like boram, it was made specifically for breaking long videos into multiple short digestible clips at the highest possible quality with an interface that lets you do this very fast, very consistently, and with multiple videos at once

>>28660191
I don't like seeing shit art and I especially hate retards peddling shit they know is shitty as art specifically because it's shitty. I will call it out and if you don't like it, get good.
