Turns out the Vstrom 800 deal yesterday was too good to be true. The sales guy handed me off to the numbers guy and he comes back

>We got a smoking hot deal for you at 9,999
>what happened to 8,599?
>What? 9,999? Yeah sure man I can do that.
It's still not a bad price since that's dealer's MSRP of the touring model but the fact they creeped it up by 1.5K when I had checkbook in hand ready to pay makes me not want to even consider it anymore.

the only time you get a good deal is when its a private seller
i got my current bike for 4k, roughly 2k below market price
because the owner had bought a new bike, and it was the middle of september, and he didnt really have space for 2 over winter
mind you, I did have to travel 4 hours (in england) for it which is a bit of a trek to say the least

you buy a 10k bike, the govt gets 2k, FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
never buy new

First time I rode a motorcycle was the first time I rode any motor vehicle and I just immediately hopped on the highway and I learned to ride in that 1 hour. When fucking up means you die you activate some hidden knowledge you have deep inside your head. I got off the highway after 30 minutes and then the exit led to this curvy ass road, had to learn countersteering and leaning cause I was going like 75 in the 35mph backroad. Leaned so hard I scraped the footpegs on a dual sport which typically doesn't happen.

NTA, but once the ice comes there is no amount of skill that will save you if you hit random black ice. Also if you enjoy riding hard, then once the rain comes its basically nofunallow as you have to drop speeds by roughly 30% depending on how hard its coming down.

I'm assuming you studied up on how to shift and leaning before you did this. I drove only automatic cars before I bought my bike, and with 0 training I rode it off the lot like that. However there is no fucking way I could have done that without looking up how to not stall the thing or how the basics of steering/leaning worked. I also immediately went into a dead street to practice turning and shifting for 45 minutes before going on the streets. Dropped my bike in those 45 minutes, and dropped it again on the way home.

Highways are probably the easiest part of riding as a first timer, the intersections were the really stressful part of that ride home. Nearly shat my pants tbqh.

1. why are there no fairings aaaaaaa, it's so noisy and I feel like getting blown off the fucking bike whenever I get over 65 mph
2. I would have to learn to do my own valve checks because valve intervals at 12k miles, not necessarily bad but I like road tripping a lot and that would be a problem
Ultimately I'd have to see where bike prices/new models are at whenever my current bike finally dies but I think it fills the same spot in my heart as a DRZ does for me where it's a very good multitool but not ideal for leaving town with

Fuck -at 65mph you don't even need to tuck, literally just lean forward and let your body rest against the wind. You're too weak to be riding a naked, just buy an adv bike and call it a day. This is what moefaggotry does to a male.

I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember and I'm only 24 so I'm actually very attuned to how dangerous riding is for your hearing. It's also why I genuinely care about wind protection, the different between a windscreen and no windscreen is night and day.
>You somewhat get used to the wind on a naked.
this is what people say and I'm certain it's true but I genuinely feel like I'm getting lifted off of the seat all the time like I have to hold onto the bike for dear life. I can't imagine you went into your purchase feeling the same. Maybe with a windscreen it could be nicer with tucking but I went full tuck and it still felt like I was being blown back. The only silver lining was that the geometry made going full tuck rather comfortable

You can easily ride without meme braking, just like you can ride without body position, both aren't as important as tires, throttle control, steerings, entry, exist, etc.

Idk usually all the canyon crashes I see are because of hitting the throttle too early or shitty/cold tires from people not taking it easy the first few minutes. The next biggest crash point is going wide thinking that reddit fixation is real and looking somewhere will direct the bike to magically move in that direction, you'll see that one especially for videos of The Tail of the Dragon riding.

>how do you keep from being bored in the rain, less grip, less lean, less speed
Less grip can be more fun. Like riding on a dirt road feeling the bike squirming around underneath you on the very edge of adhesion. It's scary and thrilling at the same time. There's also less visibility which makes it even scarier.

But you'll need pic related.

>>
>>28655913
Nah, its very different because of a multitude of things. Biggest difference is speed for one, falling down on a dirt bike at 30kmh compared to falling down on a street bike at 100kmh is a big deal. Not to mention being run over by cagers when you do fall. Dirt bikes are also on...dirt where falling doesn't hurt and break your bike, also you can save yourself sliding on dirt, on street bikes you slide out and basically just fall over in an instant.

Depends
Firstly you should be twisting your wrist and not arm
Second you cant be deathgripping it or else this transfer will be sabotaged
Third if your cables are tight then turning the handlebars will leave throttle cable wide open and thats not good

It's only worth buying a bike new if you sign it under a business expense, at least in my country it is allowed for vehicles that aren't a regular car or SUV, here is mostly common seing a lot of trucks being signed for business yet people use them regularly for their 9-5.

>20-25 mph
Use a tiny baby touch of clutch then. It'll smooth out the jitters of a throttle in lower gear. Don't forget to grip really hard with your leg and relax your arms, and I mean relaaaaax them, you are probably still gripping even when you think you aren't. Right hand turns are always harder because of the position of the throttle hand, I use more clutch on those at low speed than I do with left, lets me get away with the worse control.

If you must, then go and become a parking lot dweller, but realize I learned how to do the below just from riding hard on the streets and only recorded this on $10 Canadian tire knee pads just to dab on the resident schizo. I got my Transalp 700 from 2008. I did some repairs but I broke the screw maintening the fuel tank lid and it fell into the tank... and the screwthread is fucked up now... It's been 1 month now, can it be harmful for the bike if I keep it within? I tried to disassemble the whole tank but the screw seem to be stuck somewhere.

I don't want to remove the gas pump and the gasket, at least not for now beacause it's a pain in the ass. I've already fixed the gaugle within the tank which was loose (a known issue from this model) and I don't want to put back this fuckin' gas pump again (I've almost damaged it the first time...)

The suzuki absolutely needs a ground up redesign for the foreign markets of that engine because it is truly ancient and not in a cool easy to maintain and upgrade kinda way.

>But they don't do that because then they'll just have an old boxer bmw instead of being part of the "Janus Community"
You've hit on the part I don't understand. Any serious motorcycle collector would prefer the bikes that the Janus seeks to imitate but the Janus only makes sense as a collector's item. Who gives a fuck about being in the Janus Community.

>Any serious motorcycle collector would prefer the bikes that the Janus seeks to imitate but the Janus only makes sense as a collector's item.
Because it's New and because it has Prestige.
That's the reason. It's a hand-made bike in a market that surrendered to China and Japan half a century ago. To the kind of people in this picture, that's very important.

I'm not even going to say they're wrong for doing that. There is something admirable about having a principle and sticking to it even if it makes no financial sense. I just wish they would choose a better motorcycle for that look considering the Engine isn't even made here.
>>
>>28656266
>Who gives a fuck about being in the Janus Community.
I think it might be like how people buy Harleys instead of any other cruiser. Self image. But with Janus, I think the point about people who buy them already having 6 bikes is important. They're looking for a solution to their self image issue.

I don't think that this will solve their self image issue. For a year or two they'll be "that Janus guy" and then they'll get the next thing and be that for a while.
>>
>>28656271
self-image is definitely a selling point. And fart9 hit another nail on the head: It's wobbly as fuck but doesn't come with other downsides a really old bike might have, like much shorter maintenance intervals and having to wrench every part on it. These kinda of dads with 6 bikes are likely of the wrenchlet variety.
>>
>>28656272
Thats really it, and I agree with the other guy
>self-image
>old bike feel without the work involved

Janus bikes have become unstealable.
No one wants to ride it because it's a death trap.
The parts are either worth nothing or highly traceable.

Beside having trackers on bike to find bike thieves. I'll just leave the keys in some Janus' and the thieves will die trying to take a corner
>>
>>28656270
>That's the reason. It's a hand-made bike in a market that surrendered to China and Japan half a century ago. To the kind of people in this picture, that's very important
You can buy knock off Harleys in kit form made by Bubbas in machine shops. A big twin !Harley is a fraction of the price, you just have to assemble it yourself. That's what your pic related type of people would do before buying an artisanal boutique replica.
>>
>>28656270
I don't really get the desire for hand made things when they're for motorcycles. The tolerances for the machines being used by Honda for example are so much smaller than anything that could be made by hand.

Its not even really hand made. Like its just some abstracted by one or two levels from what the big factories do. The further you get away from high tolerance CNC the more random faults and errors you get. F9 tried to argue that this shit is part and parcel because were riding an already dangerous vehicle, but isn't the whole point of the shit he sells online to lower the risk? Couldn't his argument be used as a justification for squiding?

I put on 20,000 miles this past year, having to do it all again on a naked sounds miserable. It’s the biggest dealbreaker for me on this bike, other than that it’s been one of the best handling riding experiences I’ve ever had with wonderful engine characteristics to boot. The perfect blend of street and sport. The ergos even made full tuck feel very easy, with any sort of windscreen it might even be manageable
But for long highway miles it sounds less than doable. Idk why everyone has to be a tough guy when it comes to bikes, nakeds are less comfortable than faired bikes for highway use and I think that’s pretty obvious

Legitimately, unironically, genuinely, honestly, and truthfully until 150kmh (95 freedom units) I cannot possibly see any real complaint about nakeds if you aren't a twig armed stick man with zero core muscles. Hurleybrothers before they became fat weak faggots used to cruise across all of North America with no windscreen and no helmet. Bugs in the face at 100+kmh (60 freedom units) is even for me too much, but at 65mph with a helmet, you can literally (literally) just lean forward slightly and rest yourself against the wind.

I'm 6'2", so my torso is a giant sail in the wind on any motorcycle, and even then, I don't even really feel a real genuine need to tuck until I'm maxxing out my poor 390 at 170kmh. Its not even a full chest flat to tank tuck either unless I'm just trying to be aerodynamic to push the poor orange whore to her limits.

Also I will just leave you with pic related, naked are the truest form of motorcycling, feeling the wind and embracing the elements is real rider reality. Comfort seeking protection is a cagie mindset and I refuse to respect it.

>>
>>28656633
ummm, yes? If the bike has more power at 90% of it's rev range it's more usable than the one with slightly more power at the top 10% when you can barely use any of it before you have to shift.

It doesn't. Partially because people can tell when you engage in activities performatively. Bikes don't get you laid, but dudes who ride motorcycles obviously have sex.

You will never be a real R series. You have no I4, you have no V4, you have no revs. You are a commuting roleplayer twisted by tiktok and youtube into a crude mockery of Yamaha's perfection.

All the validation you get is twofaced and halfhearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your friends laugh at your paralLEL twin performance behind closed doors.

Eventually it'll be too much to bear, you'll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They'll bury you with a headstone marked with your engine name, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know an MT-07 is buried there.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

Quick question:
Where do you check a bikes value?
O looked at at 2002 Triumph boneville america at $3500, it looked good, besides a minor fix maybe worth $200 and some minor cosmetic stuff there was nothing wrong with it. But $3500 seems to much.

I had an ‘04 r6 that I rode the piss out of (oVeR 9o0o). Best bike I ever owned. Bought it with 10k miles and had 48k when I sold it. Only maintenance I ever did was oil (rotella) and chains and sprockets.
It turned a bird into mist and feathers going around a curve once and only became more powerful
It had such a thick layer of grease flung from the sprockets and chain that it was like a barnacled boat hull
It had leaking forks and a parasitic drain when I sold it. Engine might have blown up the next day or it might run until the heat death of the universe

I will say that I love my mt though. Incredibly fun bike to blast around on (under 100mph).

The only reason the SV650 was ever used as a track bike is because you could find one used on craigslist for less than pennies, thrash it to fuck, and then buy another one for the lint in your pocket and give it the same repeat thrashing. Your 10k brand new tiktok influencer bike is for roleplaying and #bikelife #biketok pictures. If you have 10 grand to spent on an underpowered brand new bike for track then buy a ZX4R instead of the LAR7P.

You do realize the LAR7P is an underpowered joke just like the ZX4R, right? ZX4R is for practicing proper fundamentals, like keeping your revs high for maximum power and engine braking. The LAR7P serves no purpose, its not cheap like an ancient used SV650 is, has no revs, and costs 10 fucking grand + goverment tip for a roleplaying tiktok bike.

I mean honestly all the new bikes are overpriced, all the 600 supersports are like 12 grand for the same shit they were selling in early 2000's. Buy a used early 2000's one for 1/4 the price and you don't even have to pay to flash the ECU and put an exhaust on like you do for the modern ones.

That being said, ZX4R is literally the only lower CC high revving machine you can buy. Even used, good luck finding a low CC high rev machine if you aren't in Japan/Asia. Its literally the only good new bike made.

If I wasn't a poorfag I would literally be riding one right now. This shit is going to be looked at as a modern classic in the future, if only because nothing else like it exists.
>>
>>28656959
Tbf the bike is fine, it and the cbr650r siffer from some identity crisis though. It would arguably be better as a entry sport tourer if the changed the bars and made the tank practical. They leaned hard into track and theres a market for smaller displacement bikes that are better equipped fpr track. To this day idk why suzuki never did this with the SV650.
