I tried vacuuming it out but couldn't get a good seal on the spark plug hole, I could probably afro-engineer an extension like you said but honestly I'd rather pull the head off. it takes like 10 minutes and I might clean off the surface of the piston or maybe even lap the valves while I have it off, it looked pretty bad in there (I used a camera probe to look inside the cylinder).

Is that a former coal mine? It looks like some of the recovered and parkified coal mines around here. Beautiful, anyway.
>>
>>28677970
Don't think so, Vancouver area doesn't have coal to my knowledge. I know the lake is manufactured, but yeah its a nice area for a quick walk or improper ride around on you bike. I wish I had the ride out of the place recorded as well, but I forgot to flip my camera back up after taking off my helmet, so it was just a recording of my gas tank and crotch the entire time lol.

Also man does steamable rape the quality of your video, I was having trouble with catbox so I thought I would just use steamable instead, looks like trash. Better quality version: https://litter.catbox.moe/ewdo0u7267psni08.mp4

>>28677955
If you're going to ride illegally on a pedestrian trail, I'd prefer you did so politely and slowly.
>>
>>28677936
I already have a borescope, that's how I saw the surface of the piston is in terrible shape and I'm sure the valves are just as bad. plus, the outer diameter of the camera end is just small enough to pass through the spark plug hole with a bit of friction. adding anything onto the threaded end makes it just big enough to not pass through, believe it or not.

>fish a magnet in
it's rubber

>hook attachment
it's a small piece of rubber lying flat on the surface of the piston, it can't be grabbed with a hook

>need to know where the pieces are
one piece is right under the spark plug hole, maybe with one of those claw grabber things I could get it though it might not fit through the hole. another piece fell in and bounced somewhere out of sight

One of these is for sale used near me with low miles. From looking at its specs, it's a hybrid touring/commuter/adventure bike with scooter like-characteristics (That gas tank on the front is actually a 30 liter frunk, you fill up under the seat.)

idk, should I do it? It's a 750 ptwin so maybe it'll be sporty.

NTA and idk which country you're in, there are these things called 'Easements' which are supposed to indicate shared usage of certain property for roads and the like, but you can absolutely have private roads on these which you are not permitted to enter that are on someone's private property. It gets more complicated when you get into shared roads between two neighbors.

I now ride a slow as shit vt1100 and it's a sabre so it's geared for low speed and it's a blast to push it hard around the 20-40mph range, all that 1099cc compressed into going slow lol the thing is, I come from a 450 twin and a 650 i4 and the problem with those bikes is having no balls around city speeds. Keeping the revs up is no problem around suburban roads but I love inside the city where torky boys win because the speed limit is 30mph or less, some areas have the speed cameras set at 26mph

In the pic in that post I was up in the mountains, in the rain, sheltering under this trailhead sign. I was tired, and mentally numb, and just sitting there with no real thoughts after I took this picture. I started hearing this melodic, almost angellic singing coming from the woods. I knew it was just the wind and rain and my tired mind misinterpreting noise, but I knew that in the way you know a noise in the dark isn't a monster but you're still freaked out. Reality just sort of blurred at the edges, and my soul was still. For the next few days on the road I felt an inner emptiness that was also calming.
I've been chasing that feeling on teo wheels ever since. It's why I night ride so much.

I do not give a shit about how it looks. I'm trying to survive riding through a winter and likely trying to get through a mountain pass on a 3 decade old bike.
>base layers and layer up
These suits have layers, some have removable layers and some are heated.
The lack of air gaps seems like a massive pro. They have a suspender system.

I'm trying to figure out if the inseam is tight enough to ride a dual sport with
>>
>>28678551
the websites that sell these clown suits should list the measurements, including the inseam. let me know if you need any assistance on measuring your own leg. in fact post a photo of yourself naked from the waste down and i'll measure your legs for you.
>>

Online measurements aren't reliable, which is why I'm asking.
Some sites state the inseam as the length of the actual piece of material, and others list the inseam your leg should be to get said size.
>>
>>28678557
>looks like they have a low crotch
Yeah I was thinking the same. The price between snowmobile suits and "winter motorcycle" suits is absurd though. Like, the different is crotch length and unneeded "armor"
>>
>>28678561
i think that the companies that make snow suits and the companies that make winter motorcycle suits are all controlled by a larger umbrella company that ensures that the snow suits are not compatible with motorcycling. otherwise everyone would just be buying cheaper snow suits.
>>

You might be right. My grandpa has some old like John Deer monosuits too, not sure why those fell out of favor when all the old farmers love them.
That said FXR is Canadian company, I think most of the motorcycle oriented suits are manufactured in places like sweden, where as snowmobile suits are made in places more like Canada and the US where it's hobby oriented.

I've never owned a 1 piece suit, so maybe I'm delusional, but the warmth of a 1 piece seems bar-none compared to packing my leather jacket with hoodies.
I also can't ignore (yeah I know they're often shills) that most if not all of these hardcore arctic/winter motovlogging type people seem to be rocking monosuits.

Honestly it doesn't even seem like there's a monetary saving between the two. Moto gear is retardedly expensive regardless.

the problem with arctic vloggers is that theyre used to being in a piss soaked onesie, and at the end of the day they'll be going back to their log burner in a cabin somewhere and fully drying out their suit
if youre going touring on a bike you usually dont have that much luxury/comfort, and if youre using it just for commuting it ends up becoming cumbersome
a lot of bike (2 piece) stuff is designed to keep out wind and rain anyway, with zippers and overlapping layers etc. and you can always just stick some thermal baselayer underneath too
onepieces are just generally too much hassle I felt with bikes

Afaik jeans still protect from being dragged on asphalt twice as good as regular cotton, and corduroy is somewhere inbetween the two

I wear jeans while riding and I have an old perfecto jacket that's thick as shit. I know good quality vintage leather (read: thick) protects super well from multiple people I know that took falls.

>>
>>28678854
>If you lost all your riding gear except your helmet, what regular clothing would you wear to try to Keep Yourself Safe?
First thing I would buy are gloves.
Even if I can't find super-sport protective gloves, regular deerskin or goatskin gloves from the hardware store would work in a pinch.

Second thing I would get are boots. Boots are extremely important. If a bolt catches up off the road and hits your foot in your soft tennis shoes: You can't use the lower controls. You don't need specifically leather boots but you want something that's 6" that cover the ankles. Your ankles catch during a slide. $150 from Red Wing or $5 from any thrift store.

Third thing I would get is a leather jacket. Not a fashion jacket, just a regular leather jacket from the thrift store.
If you want to be an actual cheap bastard: You can get a cowhide leather welding jacket from basically any hardware store. It's less than $80, and is extremely durable.

https://www.amazon.com/QeeLink-Leather-Welding-Flame-Resistant-Cowhide/dp/B07FR9HMJV/r

Leather has ten times the resistance of cotton in a slide and twice that of the resistance of any denim. Your jeans aren't going to last long on asphalt.

Here's my actual answer: Stop being a cheap bastard and buy proper riding gear. Shell out for a proper jacket that has elbow, shoulder, and back protectors in it, and a nice pair of gloves that have a palm slider. Then, when you get some decent money: Buy some slide pants and an airbag. Just do it.
>>
>>28679074
>You can get a cowhide leather welding jacket from basically any hardware store.
i myself use cowhide leather gloves for riding since i lost my actual motorbike gloves kek
for body cover i only have a sort of leather apron tho, only would protect my chest which is subpar but i could rotate it 360 degrees to protect my back

Oh, in that case then I would look into a leather welding coat. Be sure to remove all those brass snaps on the front and sides and fill the holes in with patches because those brass snaps will grind against your skin.

You can do the thirdie option and make your own base layer armor if you're that strapped for cash. There are instructions on doing that online for cheap:
https://www.instructables.com/Budget-Custom-CE-Rated-Motorcycle-Armor-From-D3O-H/
https://www.instructables.com/DIY-Motorcycle-Pants-or-Upgrade/

First, get the inserts: https://www.revzilla.com/replacement-motorcycle-armor the cheapest ones you can afford, and sew them with kevlar thread onto a pouch you make into a denim shirt or a leather jacket, being sure to reinforce their positioning on the shirt or jacket with kevlar webbing.
https://www.amazon.com/kevlar-webbing/s?k=kevlar+webbing

That way, when the shirt starts to peel during a slide, the armor stays in place and does its job. If you just get shoulder + elbow protectors, you're looking at $40-$50 USD. If you can do this + leather jacket, then you may run $120 OTD.

But I thought you guys in the third world had your own craftsman who can do that kind of thing for you. I know some of the boots you can buy here in the states are made by craftsmen in South America who usually make them for $4 for the local villagers

The klr650 will go from Argentina to Alaska with MAYBE a quick drain and fill. It will also take you on dirt roads and easy trails with no issues. A t7 will also do this, but the klr650 is as reliable as a wood burning stove and every nut and bolt is known in maintenance guides on YouTube.

That said, it isn't meant to be comfortable. Grip and seat covers will help. A t7 also isn't comfortable for those trips. You'd be better off with a bmw 1250gs or Africa twin. If you want pure highway pavement riding, which to me seems boring (I've done a cross country like this) any cruiser or touring bike will do, but I'd rather mix in some BDR and exploration.

I just can't get past how ugly adventure bikes are. They all look exactly the same to me.
ADV dads like to justify their choice by appealing to flawed logic, saying stuff like 'it's the most practical bike'. But we are talking bikes here, having anything bigger than a 400cc scooter is always and irrational, emotional purchase.
If you want to act rational, and say shit like 'I don't care about looks, I want comfort, luggage space etc.' get a fucking car then if you really serious about practicality

TLDR: adv bikes are for people trying to rationalize an irrational choice and most of them are annoyingly smug about it too
>>
>>28678446
What do you do for lodging? Camping? Hotel? How do you keep your bike from getting stolen?
>>
>>28679242
I mean you're right. That's the thing. modern ADV bikes are ugly as fuck. They either have bug-noses or no noses at all. No styling, everything is spartan and utilitarian, they are clad only in the least amount of plastics, and most of its visible space is engine and components.

>If you want to act rational, and say shit like 'I don't care about looks, I want comfort, luggage space etc.' get a fucking car then if you really serious about practicality

The T7 nails the "Dakar racebike" look better than any others. Ride one for some length of time and see if you change your tune. I finally caved and bought an old VStrom 1000 last week. Is it a sportbike? Absolutely not. But it has akropovics on it, my knees don't scream at me after 20 minutes, and it's still pretty fast and handles pretty well. Wanting comfort on a bike isn't some sin against motorcycling. I want to ride longer and not be mentally drained.

First of all, we're not talking about cars. Cars are different and most riders in the US and Canada have a car anyway. So why an ADV bike? It unironically is the 'do-it-all' bike. Comfy and powerful enough for big highway miles. Can go offroad, as long as you're not doing anything too crazy. If both of those things are interesting to you, an ADV bike is the obvious choice. Otherwise, get a different type of bike. I don't know why people can't just accept there are different bikes for different use-cases.

It costs them almost nothing to make at this point, the tooling is paid off. Buyers who want an old school bike will buy it. Yes it is massively outdated.
>>
T7 is a laughable machine made for absolute degenerates. The idea was decent, but it's price is set so high that only retards would buy 700cc unridable on pavement topheavy enduro bike. I was this wee at my local yamaha dealership and they were selling it for literally 14.5k €.
>>
>>28679269
The one I got is a 2nd gen. To say it's a pig is an understatement but it does have that point where it decides to wake up and rattle you to death.
I'm not sure about weight because again, I've never owned either of those bikes. I'm not sure what 20-30 lbs of different really makes in the grand scheme of 400-500 lb machines.
>>

Ok, but that's not the bike's fault. I agree if you never take it offroad, a sport-tourer would be a better fit. Yes, it's about as fast as a 600 4banger, no doubt but it'll have much better road manners and weighs the same. There's nothing wasted with more cc, it's literally the measurement of the weightless, hollow component of the combustion chamber. hp per cc isn't a meaningful metric when there's no restriction on engine capacity. Engine size limited classes always create highly strung engines with poor manners.
>>
>>28679404
Much like with pink, you don't have to look like a fucking flourescent market resting on 2 wheels. Some stripes on the front or back are plenty to catch a driver's attention.

Don't waste your time. For the same mileage you could visit any of those national parks, north Wales or even go visit the Ardennes in Belgium if you're starting by London.

The new KLE seems like it's gonna be Kawi's real attempt at a midsize ADV. Should be way lighter than the KLR with a bit more power and it's a twin that can do 110 in other bikes so it should be able to cruise comfortably at 80. I'm probably gonna end up with one unless they really fuck it up somehow.

>>28679280
>unridable on pavement
You'd be surprised. I was with a group of guys last month who were being absolute hooligans and riding their T7s like supermotos.
>>
>>28679327
You could start with something small and under-powered. Work up as you gain knowledge and skill.
>>
>>28679478
>The new KLE seems like it's gonna be Kawi's real attempt at a midsize ADV.
I would say to curb your expectations. The old 498cc KLE did not have linear power delivery, and you had to keep the RPMs up past 4k to get torque i don't see the Ninja's 451cc engine doing anything different. If you just want to bomb down hard pack roads and kick up dust, it will probably be a banger. Just expect your clutch to suffer immensely trying to crawl up marble size gravel trails
>>
>>28679490
Yeah I guess we'll see how it turns out. I think it'll still fit my needs, I mostly want a light touring bike that I can confidently take on dirt roads etc.
>>
If kawasaki doesnt bring an affordable adventure bike to european market then it will keep being an irrelevant motorcycle brand in here. It's fine tho, everyone enjoys hondas and bmws anyways.
>>
>>28679500
>irrelevant
>kawasaki
maybe Kawasaki thinks the EU ADV market is irrelevant
>>
>>28679327
You need experience. Go to Ridershare and just rent bikes for a bit, take them on short trips away from town for a few months until you build confident and experience about what you want to buy.
>>
>>28679517
>thinks the EU ADV market is irrelevant
Well if that's what they think then they are retarded since adventure has been born here and is still the preferable way to ride motorcycles. Sports and cruisers are not european styles, dirt only on a track either.
>>
>>28679500
What about the versus
>>
>>28679465
You aren't wrong. But I have walked in a lot of those areas already. The Great North Road would be interesting. I only just recently discovered the flat county between Selby and Goole. I had never so much as heard of Eggborough until I rode around there recently. Most of England is totally undiscovered. Also flat and predictable fits my current low skill level.
>>
>>28679532
Look I understand kawasaki calls it an adventure motorcycle for marketing reasons but there's nothing on it from an adventure motorcycle. It has the same tech as NC750X while costing more.

I go to motels where the door to your room goes straight to the parking lot, ask for a ground floor room, park my bike right in front of my door, put an alarmed disc lock on the rear wheel, put a full cover over the bike, crack the window so I can hear the alarm if it goes off, and sleep with a loaded gun on my bed stand. I want an alarmed lock for my bike cover too eventually.
I plan on camping for my next trip. I guess I'll just put my bike as close to my tent as possible while doing all my normal stuff.
>>

>>28679517
The new KLE is almost certainly coming to Europe, considering they first showed it at EICMA in Italy and it's got the same engine as the Ninja 500 so we know it'll pass EU emissions etc. Should be affordable too, I think it has to be somewhere between $6,500 and $7,500 in the US (less than $6.5k puts it too close to the KLX300 and Versys-X 300, and more than $7,5k is too close to the 750 class bikes and too much more than the Chinese and Indian alternatives) so whatever the EU equivalent of that is.
>>
>>28679452
In two weeks? The US is larger than you probably think it is, so pick a region you're interested in, like the west coast, pacific northwest, southwest, etc. You can cross the country in a short time, but you'd be stuck going balls out on the interstate which is boring and looks the same everywhere. Pick a region, look at the states in that region, then look on a place like motorcycleroads.com for the local scenic routes.
>>
>>28679565
Hopefully it’s under 400lbs but I doubt it given how they do the klr
>>
Can you recommend a YouTube channel that does motorcycle restorations (not jeets or something). Very important condition though: the guys MUST do the restoration themselves and not send the engine/teansmission/frame to repair in a different shop because the only thing they can do is screw the fairing off the bike you know like every youtuber I saw before.
>>
>>28679317
That's the point. They're a sport tourer with a more dirt inspired rider triangle. I cannot do an FJR1300 because of the rearsets. I can stand on an R1200GS all day long. Minor off-road capabilities are just a bonus
>>
>>28679583
I think it'll be around there. The Ninja 500 is 370-380 and the KLE looks like it'll be on the lighter, more street-oriented end of ADVs, pretty similar to the 386lb Ibex.

What's the best way to say 'no' to a white woman? Ever since I've been riding scooters I keep getting propositioned for sex from young women but I can only coom three times a day so I have to reject the other girls. So I need a way to politely decline their advances without them getting mad and slashing my tyres. Halp!

Discovered this 55mph state road today with tons of beautiful sharp curves you have to nearly scrape your footpegs if you're taking them at speed and there were a bunch of fucking slowfags in SUVs scared their Rav4 would flip if they went any faster than 10mph through them and the road was too narrow to pass them so they just ruined my fucking day

49, close to 50 here. When you're under 30 you can just do whatever and be fine. After 30 you have to actively maintain your body or it starts to fall apart. I had a friend die over this summer because he litetally never did a single thing to maintain his health. Fucker could still be here hanging out with me, having fun, but he just didn't want to even do the bare minimum, and sometimes I still get a little mad at him for his choices.
Watch what you eat and go to the fucking gym.

They showed it at EICMA last year but it was mostly covered up. Enough was exposed for people to ID the engine as the Ninja 500 one though. Some journalist said he saw inside the box and the rest of the bike was T7-esque iirc.

It just looks so nice. I don't think the prototype camo on the EICMA one are zebra stripes, it looks more like a 'dazzle' camouflage so maybe the paparazzi can't get any specific details of its fairing from creep shots or hidden cameras.
>>
>>28679902
If my bike was covered in Zebra stripes would that make it invisible to speed cameras? Maybe the radar won't detect my vehicle, or may detect multiple vehicles within the space of about a metre and dismiss it as an error?

getting somewhat frustrated with my middleweight bike, the gearing is so long that I feel like I can't get the most of it on medium pace roads where you're doing anywhere between 30mph - 70mph. It feels like I have first and second gear for twisty riding and then the rest are for varying levels of street riding.
I love this bike to death but I do wish it was a bit better geared for riding a canyon, maybe I'm just not fast enough to get the most out of it
