Oi lads, looking to get a new Z400E from dealer, $10390 ride away soon. Saw this WR250R pop up at 15,000 km for $7500 and really hmmmmm’d myself. I’m just being retarded right? ….Right? I mean the little fucker has to rev to oblivion to hill climb. Yet everyone calls it the goat. Anyway. apparently the DR4S is coming to OZ in December, but we’ll still be getting “new” E models alongside it regardless. Pretty sad update honestly.

>Motorcycling is never dying in Asia.
China went from bicycles to motorbikes, and is now moving up to cars. Things do change. China also bans motorbikes in major cities because they supposedly clutter the city (dunno how cars are a better option in any way)
Japan also moved up and so did Korea, cars are just more comfortable for people and also become a status symbol in developing countries. Motorbikes tend to be seen as "Lower class" or uncivilized in these countries that are coming out of poverty, rather than a fun hobby or just another transport method
>>
Saw someone saying euro 6 will kill motorcycles in Europe. I doubt it. If you look at car regulations(euro 7 or whatever) the big evil right now are things that aren't exactly engine emissions, but things like dust from brake pads and whatnot.

They generate electricity with coal and gas and yet pretend like electric cars are green at all
Electric cars depend on the grid, which is very controlled, and they also can't drive as far as real cars in a single go

I like to wipe mine down when I'm bored, it's therapeutic and satisfying to do when I'm in the state of mind to detail. i found out i can do fine at 12-10 but when it gets down to single digits it start to be a bit harder bu that's because i didn't exactly dress the right way last time.
What you wear under the gear is really important: i have a second hand bmw base layer and some cheap thermal pants that under the motorcycle stuff make a huge difference. double sock might be next for me but if i'm wearing boots they are not that cold, hands i might need a bit more so i ordered some handguards to try at least cut out the wind on them and a new neck warmer thingy.

Yuh, I didn't mention it but I did wear two pair of pants
>slim fit jeans base
>loose fit work pants on top
>Riding shoes were high enough to cover any gap between pants and shoes
>top: Wore a thermal jersey and a knitwear jersey. puffer jacket on top of that so I got no cold at all in my chest and arms.

I have a 1hr commute that goes down to about 0C, or maybe a tiny bit below.

Some tips that I use:
>Heated gloves
I have "heated glove liners" that go underneath my riding gloves, but in hindsight I should have bought heated riding gloves. Also mine are battery powered, but I should have bought 12V ones instead. The heated gloves go on any time it's below 10C, and they make a HUGE difference to comfort.
>A big windscreen
Make sure it's really big. If it's too small, you'll just deflect air onto your helmet and cause buffeting, which is an incredibly loud vibration that gives you a headache. I generally like the Puig windscreen extender on top of my stock CB500X windscreen in the high position, but it moves around a little bit.
>Thermals
I wear a thermal shirt and pants, along with a wool midlayer and then a liner in my jacket. I'm going to replace my riding jeans with textile pants at some point, because they have inbuilt thermal liners and are waterproof without the need for separate overpants. The advantage of layers (for me) is that you can wear less in the afternoon than the morning, and everything dries a bit quicker once it gets soaked. The advantage of one big layer is that it's faster to get on and off.
>Cold toes
No idea here, my feet have always been nice and warm.
>Air in your helmet
Most of this is just learning to live with it. On super cold days my pinlock stops working, so I need to start opening vents to dry it out. A few times I've even had ice crystals forming on my visor. I have a tubular scarf which I tuck in underneath my helmet, which helps a little bit. But the windscreen is probably the biggest factor.

The hands are definitely the worst part. If you invest in some heated gloves (or one of these scooty things if you want a budget option) then the rest of your body will feel a lot better too.

It takes a lot. 0C feels like -12C at 80kph.
Wind tries to seep in from every seam and rips heat away from you.
Even with my heated grips and windguards the tips of my fingers still want to fall off. I think those big insulated and heated handlebar covering things are the way to go.
The only thing I haven't figured out is footwear. I almost need little wind deflectors over my boots.

Its a sports tourer. Its for touring whilst sporting and sporting whilst touring. The riding position is a compromise between sports and touring, so that you can be sporty while sporting while touring and also tour while touring while being sporty

I actually rode a lot last winter, mostly around 6-10 celsius. I was comfy with:

>fairings + windscreen
>heated grips
>thermal shirt + thermal pants
>polar fleece mid layer
>single layer gore tex jacket with thermal liner
>kevlar pants
>waterproof gloves
>goretex adventure boots
>thermal balaclava
>neck tube

The biggest trick though, wear your gear in your warm house for at least half an hour, ideally you want to get uncomfortably hot before you step outside. The layers will keep you warm but its hard to warm up if its all cold

I need to go practice on the 250. 750 is kind of a sketch bike for that.

I also don't want to destroy my transmission practicing, that's another thing that keeps me from it.
I keep waffling on if I should practice clutch up on the 250 or power up on the 750.

supposedly clutch ups at low speed will teach you balance instead of chasing a wheelie like you would on a proper sized bike, you mostly do freeway stuff tho so you could just air down to 28 and do some pow pows on your throttle to squash and lift the suspension without actually needing to do anything and then chase the wheelie to 120mph
but i cant wheelie for shit anyways so weh
>>
>>28723749
I don't want to do wheelies on the highway, too much risk. I was thinking line 2nd gear 40 or 50 mph on a back road, whack the throttle and bring it up for a second or two. Do that until I get over my fear of the front wheel coming up

I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but does anyone know if Kenda cage tires are as good as their motorcycle tires?
My mom's mirage needs tires and some Kendas are on sale for $40 a pop. Those ok?
I put Kenda tires on my dad's Sportster 2 years ago and they've held up great, even with how my dad rides.

The vfr800 is a massive nerd who is charismatic and good looking, and because of that receives love and attention leading to the discovery of its beautiful soul underneath. This particular one is definitely not a tour, they don't even have bags.

But I see your point, you want to find one or two cases that "prove" the point. Unfortunately it's not how it works my friend. Judging by YouTube videos there's many times more scooters doing tours than a "touring" motorcycle VFR800, which does not make them scooters a touring machine.
>>
>>28723338
Son what you are saying it's uncomfortable to do the touring on it? Because BMW K1300S is also a sports tourer, but it's extremely comfortable.

Good content isn't popular, circle jerk feelsgoodman Content that's dull around the edges is what retains attention. The audience doesn't want qualilty, they want comfort. The idea of leveraging ones looks is so vapid and shallow that it always erodes the soul. Why should my passion be corrupted for clicks? Why should I make money lying to my audience how I actually feel in order to turn a modest profit. Privacy is where you can truly enjoy the things one enjoys, not clout sharking. Fame as a whole is unnecessary heat, best to stay in the shade where it's cool.

But god damn I really just do not care for the engine character, I hate that you pull on throttle and get instant feedback but then it just starts kinda feeling slower the higher you are in the powerband. I really dislike the feeling of letting go of the throttle and engine braking so hard you might as well not even have regular brakes, I hate that the tire is so big for a bike that could be so much smaller and nimbler like an SV. Does Sportster 1200 and 883 have the same MPG?
i always assumed that the smaller engine would have higher mpg. but now that i think about it, if they are both loaded equally, same rider, same frame, same speed then they should have the same MPG? right?

the 1200 has more torque, so it has the ability to accelerate a heavier mass more quickly, but if the mass is the same, and both bikes reached a steady highway speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) then do they both have the same mpg?

We got a big snowfall and I tried to take out the DR.
The knobby tires did nothing and I barely made it down the block. The wheel just spins and any amount of brakes locks up the wheels.
I'm going to try again once it hits 10pm and no one's on the roads. Not because I think I'll get anywhere, but just because I think it'll make for some funny pictures.

Has anyone studded their own tires? I think if I get some 3/8's or shorter hex screws and do up the tires it'll be much better.

>Can you bypass a lean angle sensor?
That's one of the things they tried but it didn't solve the issue. Whatever the issue was it's not my problem any more but still a mystery. The fact that it was happening on two different bikes is why I'd be hesitant to ever by a new Kymco again.
My Kymco Agility Carry was bulletproof, though. I dropped it a handfull of times but it still kept going with no broken panels. Just scratches and a bent brake lever. I loved that scoot.

Day 2, one bolt managed to get out after enough time with the propane torch and some vise grips. If I dremel the last 2 bolt heads into squares I might be able to get a better purchase
Is it normal to not be able to get a bolt to glow? I sat with a propane torch WOT for like 3 minutes and nothing changed. Is it just because it’s bolted to a rotor which is basically a giant heat sync?

I love my 250R.
My mate recently got a 690 Enduro R and while the power is much better, I like riding my WR more. It's probably because I'm more used to it, but to me it felt smoother and more manageable.
The 690 flamed out on me a couple of times which has never happened on the WR. To be fair, the 690 has been abused more, but I'm sure the WR will hold up better over time.
It has plenty of power for off-road work but I would still like more power for road use.
If they made a 350 that had 38 to 40hp while keeping everything else the same (or better) it would be the end all be all dual sport.

My 2006 bike has a hydraulic clutch. I'd prefer a cable clutch, they're simpler and easier to maintain.
In fact, in the next model up Fireblade (2008 onwards) they went back to cable.

Theyre not mandatory if you darkside a tw200 and have the supported training whols package

In that weather its better to have a sles, we cant do anything unless its hars pack without studded tires
Cold asphalt also sucks on knobulars and black ice will end you because you have no contact batch
But you can possibly do powder depending on conditions underneath

Did you guys know the eskimos only have a number system for 1 2 and more than 2?
But snow and snowing conditions they can describe like 75 or more different characteristics whereas our vernacular is at most like 8-12 adjective+verb combos?
We simply lack the grammar bros
Remember to put on the full armor of God so you dont die and go for the last shoom on your actual last shoom, especially froze to death, that sucks, can verify, people lose fongers at like -5c ffs

Upon closer examination of the snow, that is indeed the death sentence type on a heavy motorcycle
However those conditions are awesome to snowboard in, when fresh, but not a good combo
Its like a wet snow that instant freezes the moment its lightbess gets compressed, pic rel, i know this snow feel

Nobody knows honestly. You can also get Shineray's sidecar motorcycle under like one of 5 brands, but the problem is that the only non-chinese factory sidecar motorcycle manufacturer seems to be Ural and it's not like the problems Chinese have with parts availability and quality control aren't present on these either. Imo. try finding someone making custom sidecars for whatever bike you can get instead.

not viable in my European country, to make a sidecar road legal you have to make all sort of retarded things like compulsory reverse gear and pay for a government inspection. The shops that sells homologated bikes with sidecars charge like 20k for some shitty royal enfield 300
>>
>>28725652
You really have 3 options. Russian roulette with new urals, russian roulette with old urals/dnieprs(tou can find parts for like 70's models relatively easily, but it's a lot of wrenching) or russian roulette with the Chinese bikes.

I'd personally look at Shineray - it's either sold as SWM or MASH and they have sidecar model, is it good - I don't know, legends say some dealer managed to sell one once upon a time.
>>
>>28725676
I till take a look at the SWM, it's sold for 11k in my country. Thanks anon.

dont do empty tank. not all tanks are lined and this will cause some pretty gnarly rusting that will probably end up with clogged lines/carbs/injectors.
