It's insulated incredibly well. It's heated and cooled with two 36k btu mini splits.
It also doesn't get very cold here, usually. It's a really bad winter if we see 15 degrees.

All I can tell you is that I've tried two different "trusted" brands of heated gloves and both stopped heating after about 4 months. and only one of the two pairs was actually waterproof.
So IMO heated gloves are a bad idea. I just use normal winter gloves with weather shields to keep the cold wind and rain off my hands.

It's a lot of fun sliding all over the street, but the cold is getting to me. Even with the studs, because it snows so much the studs can't always contact the ice under the snow so it's a lot of fish tailing.

Those types of things are what I meant by muffs.
I think those would help a ton. I've been putting them off because they look like they'd impede on the controls, but if so many people use them, they're probably fine.

I know, the problem is the winter gloves don't allow enough of the heated grip heat through + wind + feathering the clutch trying to find traction in snow/ice.
I really think those "hippo hand" things are the way to go. I'm going to get some.
>>28762850
Do your toes get cold?
>>28762862
I'm DR350 anon. Honestly the front tire was better mannered than I thought it'd be. Ice ruts are the worst part because the tire just slips into place, but even on the ice the front tire still brakes better than the rear. You just have to modulate the levers really carefully.

I'm lucky because I can just keep my feet down when it's slippery. So if the bike starts to fall sideways I can just plant my feet and stop the bike from dropping underneath me. There's been a time or two where I've literally done a 180 going up an icy hill with both my feet down just sliding around.

When I pull over into the curb to let cars pass there's usually deeper snow and more ice. That's the biggest issue because without momentum the rear wheel just spins and I have to bounce the bike or try to pull up onto the sidewalk to get going again.

My sweet summer child, at some point it's even worse here than in Ukr.
They're not trying to conscript 18-25yo kids unlike us. Even busification isn't as bad as being taken from your job because your HR has sold you out. Even tho it doesn't happen now it doesn't mean they can't bring that practice back in a day.
There are no video with ukies crying on tiktok how their commander zeroed their own people and have sent them to death. And from the russian side, oh well... let's say you see a new one every week without even looking.

it'd be cool if the market was more open because this is a thing people should be able to roll themselves instead of buying into some ecosystem.

you could have a radio on your bike, and a PTT button near your thumb. and that shit goes into some sort of bluetooth doodad.
your phone also connects to the doodad. and your helmet has a doodad on it with speakers and a mic.
so you can listen to music or nav, and press button and talk to your boy.

but i guess it does mean that you have to bring the little radio with you and make sure it's charged. which is one more thing than just making sure your helmet is charged.
but it also would work with anybody instead of being locked into a cardo / sena ecosystem.

This rain has wrecked the engine.
Our old junk finally collapsed.
What's wrong, hey hey baby?
The battery's still going strong.
Let's rock it like always and take it easy.

I've ridden it badly before.
But even then, you were strong.
What's wrong, hey hey baby?
Please cheer me up.
Let's rock it like always and take it easy.

Oh, go ahead and get off until it crashes.
Woo... I'll see how long it lasts.
On a night like this, I can't ride with you.
On a night like this, I can't take off.

This can't last forever.
We'd better start thinking about tomorrow.
What's wrong, hey hey? Baby
Even you say that?
Let's get high and let loose like always.

Oh, shining in the night sky after the rain.
Woo... diamonds scattered among the gaps in the clouds.
On a night like this, I can't ride you. On a night like this, I can't take off.

Your radio has great KANDO!
It'll instantly emit a great sound and fly you anywhere.
What's wrong, hey hey baby?
My battery's full.
Let's get high and let loose like always.

Oh, flowing in the night sky after the rain.
Woo... the moon is like a gin and lime.
On a night like this, I can't ride you. On a night like this, I can't take off.

On a night like this, I can't ride you. On a night like this, I can't take off.

The flathead M72 and K750 were fairly sturdy, minus poor Soviet quality control and workmanship. Mechanically the sidevalves are about as reliable as the BMWs as long as said poor workmanship doesn't rear its head.
With modern C3 bearings all around they're dailyable even for longer distances, as long as you don't mind being slow as shit.
Their top speed is like 60kmh without shattering the internals.

The OHV engines are a bit iffy as they went two different directions.
IMZ stuck with cheap and simple pressed in crankshafts with one piece conrods.
The issue here is that the cranks are made up and pressed together of like 5 pieces and tend to twist out of alignment really easily, seizing the engine.
The conrod roller bearings are also kinda questionable and a massive bitch to replace, practically impossible without machine shop tools. Oiling is provided by simple slinger plates at the ends of the crankshaft, also functioning as an oil filter of sorts. It's basically all splash lubricated aside for a tiny pump that occasionally squirts oil onto the camshaft and into the heads. Mostly the lubrication is just splash and overpressure.

KMZ on the other hand went with a more fancy design, utilising a proper oil pump, a hollow one piece crankshaft and proper conrods with end caps and plain bearings. This is better on paper, but they also had their own issues with the oil pumps failing quite easily.
In my opinion the Dnepr engines are better even if I haven't owned one, but a lot of hardcore Uralists tend to curse Dnepr engines for some reason and swap them out for IMZ 650 OHV engines despite all of their issues, probably due to the simplicitiy.
Dnepr transmissions are a bit better than Ural ones too as they have a multiplier gear in the kickstarter, unlike in IMZ boxes which are 1:1, making Dneprs much easier to kick over.

Sorry for the late reply,
so, the G650GS has the ChiRotax and few ponies less while the F650GS has the original Rotax, all of them, IIRC.
The G version and the F version are basically the same but on the F version you sit in the bike instead of on the bike like on the G version, the cockpit is lower on the G one so you're less protected by the screen. I tried it once and it felt weird, I was way comfier on my older F version.
Picrelated is at nearly 100'000 km.
I had to fix a leaky fork at around 75'000, the rest was basically oil and filters.
I don't ride as much anymore other than grocery store runs and the likes so it eats my chain kit way less now and now I remember that I also fucked up 2 rear wheel shock absorbers in its life, but that's probably the way I rode it and that's it.
Years ago I did 15'000 km/year with this bike alone and exited every single mountain hairpin with it, on asphalt, at 7'000 rpm as it was supposed to be just a temporary bike when I bought it, so I abused the hell of it, dropped it on and off-road, on snow and ice, and kept using it just because it just didn't die (I actually wanted a KTM 690 SMC instead but I needed to load it like a workhorse for the purpose it had back then, so I went with the BMW, which was more of a Swiss Army knife and way comfier, now I can't let it go lol.
The bike is still in working conditions and is still plated.

>I honestly dont get the consumer fetishism for new stuff.
There's no fetishism here. I'm a structural engineer and everything we calculate is based on the number of use years or loading cycles. Even if you calculate a simple gear for a machine you literally need enter number of loading cycles for that gear into a software or do hand calcs. The more cycles you design a part for the beefier the part is and the better materials used.
So if you like doing engine rebuilds you can go this way. I prefer seeing smaller number on the clock, not necessarily new.

I am getting really good at getting the bike in and out of the house now. Engine off, first gear, clutch control. Easier than braking as it is a negative action. Letting go or losing grip stops it. I thing I might try nailing on laths next. I see the sand and decking paint has eroded in places tar paint with sand might be a possible too.
