Bought a Thrustmaster T300rs as my first wheel and about 2 minutes after ordering realized I had done research months go and had settled on a Moza R3/R5 guess I'm a belt drive man now.

Simagic is the only chink company that makes high quality gear. Probably because all of their product managers are westerners who understand sim racing, unlike moza. Moza wheelbases are ok but their steering wheels are hot garbage

However this Moza brand seems to be nice and just as reliable as any other non-chinese brand. I just replaced my thrustmaster th8a shifter with a fanatec sq 1.5, so I will provide a little review/comparisonI got this entire rig in trade which included a t300 (loving it so far), but the th8a started having connection drop-out issues; thats the main reason I replaced it. As for what it was like to use, it was very smooth to operate and had a satisfying *thunk* when sliding into the gates. My biggest issue by far though was the lack of side to side detents to push through like actual manual gearboxes have. Youve got 4 gate lanes, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and then 7-R, but it was just linear spring resistance from extreme left all the way to extreme right, which made it hard to know what gear you were going into by feel. I missed a lot of shifts, especially when needing to downshift multiple times quickly. Its cheap but serviceable for a basic manual rig shifter. One of the biggest reasons I got the fanatec is it has a push-down gated reverse and 7th gear, so you have the typical 3 lanes with side-to-side detents like a traditional manual - infinitely better than the th8a in that regard. The shifter action is very smooth and direct but not as satisfying as the th8a. The other neat feature is being able to seamlessly swap to sequential mode with a physical switch on either side of the box, however I find the shifter becomes pretty stiff when in sequential mode, so I tend to stick to the paddles unless im driving a road/track with tight radius turns.

To the other anon with an aliexpress shifter, if you're annoyed with the clanking and overall sound profile of it then I recommend the oldboysimracing mod for it.It's a bit pricey for a two 3d printed bits of plastics but holy damn it dropped the noise by a good 12db. The springs are useless for me since I think the resistance level are more than enough but the top plate change + a damper at the bottom are excellent to reduce the noise.If you're cheap you can also use electric tape around the center rod where it hits the metal plates and put in something to absorbs the shock at the bottom where the metal pivots at the base.

OK so I bit the bullet and joined iracing and man it's just kicking me in the nuts over and over. I simultaneously feel too slow and spinning out all the time. Feels like none of my practice in other sims mattered at all.Ironically the first track I played on iracing was the one used in the Roblox sim so I at least knew my way around.I never used my H-pattern or driven manual before either so I guess I need to learn that. Did an MX-5 race just to see what its like and barely survived. Definitely need to do way more practice solo before I bother with online, sadly.
