>Mindbroken Chameleon tranny changes TTP's

This is a threador liter bike riders, who have liter bikes of a 900cc minimum, or aspiring liter bikers, who want to buy a liter bike.

New bake a the last thread, litter thread is maxxed and the learner/ liter dichotomy is going strong.

>Big boi liter bike things, discussed by people who actually have liter bikes of a 900cc minimum, or at least those wanting to buy a liter bike
>liter biker illusions, like wheelies, stoppies, close-up magic, stage hypnotism and posting bike
>gear advice from literchads: you don't need gear if you don't have a bike, or don't fall off. Just don't fall off and you are 100% safe
>liter biker wife pics, webms, and swapping. Chameleon has still never seen a vagina
>Biker discussion with liter bike havers, and people looking to get a liter bike.
LOL at the one permaseething chameleon tranny lulzcow

>a 600 RR is the recommended learner bike minimum, and the learner thread exists for learner discussions, although learners who want to ask literchads are encouraged. A liter over 900cc is the minimum for elite riders, who are the apex predators of the motorbike world.

Aren't 600cc bikes better than 1000cc bikes?

They're lighter, more agile, and only slightly slower.
>>
>>28812173
600RR's are perfect for learners, but have no where near the raw power of a real litre.
To get a 600 to go fast, you have to ring the shit out of it, while a litre is fast all the time, and also they are not much heavier.
600 is considered the bear minimum for a learner who wants to become a decent rider.

>>GSXR1000 will be back to Europe soon after 6 years

Suzuki GSX-R1000 and other larger GSX-R models (like the 600/750) were effectively banned/discontinued in the EU and UK after 2022 because they couldn't meet the stricter Euro 5 emissions regulations, and Suzuki chose not to update them for the European market

You couldn't buy a new 2024 GSX-R1000 in the EU (because they were already gone)

That's why 900cc bikes exist.
600s aren't "slightly slower" they're very slow compared to any liter.
900ccs give you 600 characteristics with liter power, only sacrificing a little bit of top end speed is exchange.

This guy proves that riding a bike fast is exactly the same skill as driving a car fast. It all comes down to brake and throttle application. All this midwit "body position", "counter-steering", "look through the turn", "screwdriver grip" talk is just a distraction from internet experts who are too scared to trust their tires, so they need psychological tricks to calm their mind. Simply brake into the corner and accelerate out of it. It's that simple.

Supposedly you can wiggle it just right to get it through but I reckon it’s more of a hassle and pain to spend an hour trying to do it without pulling parts than it is to just take the extra time to do it right

How much will going from a 40 to a 42 tooth rear sprocket change my bike feel?

I'm really happy with the way it rides right now, but I need a new rear sprocket and for whatever reason I can't seem to find a good steel option with 40 teeth.

So I can either get a 42 tooth steel sprocket, or a 40 tooth aluminum. I'm wary of aluminum though and I'd much rather have a steel sprocket.
>>
>>28812446
A reluctant liter bike in the words of David Moss
>>
>>28812785
Go for the steel sprocket, aluminum is trash unless you're racing and plan to swap them out every other race. Yeah alu might rev slightly quicker due to weight but the steel will last far longer. Reducing the # of teeth will increase acceleration but trade off top speed and will make your speedometer inaccurate (unless remedied with a speedo-healer)
>>
>>28812785
2 teeth on the rear will be noticeable but unless you have a super short 1st it'll probably feel like an improvement. if you're only changing the rear sprocket and not the front and chain there's no problem going for alum but I'm also a steel autist

Carbs needed some work to get it to idle reliably and it had an electrical gremlin that kept killing the taillight. A family friend is taking care of it since he knows way more about old Bong Bikes than I do. The leaking wasn't the issue getting addressed, it's just kind of a given with these bikes.
Very fun bike when it's working, though, even if it vibrates all the blood out of your arm after about 10 minutes of cruising speed.
>>
>>28812938
Bro his whole tuning thing is press down on the bike with your body weight and watch it spring back up. If you knew anything about dampers you would understand one cycle of variable force/velocity that doesn't even compress the damper fully tells you nothing about how it's going to handle anything on the road. Wrenchlet.
Now I'm not saying don't pay him hundreds of dollars for a Skype chat, you should do that, you literally deserve it the man has to eat and you are nothing.
>>
>>28812944
>Carbs
That's a twin cylinder? I always thought Triumphs were singles aside for the uhhhh Thunderheads which were triples?
Or am I thinking of Royal Enfields?
Also you should really learn how to adjust the carbs yourself along with light electrical work.
What vintage is that bike?
>>
>>28812950
The famous Triumphs are parallel twins. This one's a '70 Daytona 500 and probably needs its weird carburetors rebuilt. I'm also plenty happy to let someone else do free electrical problem solving because I fucking hate dealing with electrical stuff.
>>
>>28812958
The carbs aren't brass Amals anymore, are they?
I remember old brass carbs needing a dash of oil in the tank to keep them from wearing out.
I don't mind electrical work on old bikes because they're piss easy.

>>
>>28813206
Yes, they were all technically my fault. First two were a function of bad weather and inexperience, third one was just a stupid mistake I made in an unfamiliar area while fatigued. But that doesn't mean that anyone can make riding not an inherently dangerous activity. I was asking about whether or not the risk is worth it, not if there were some magic way to make two-wheeled speed machines with no crash protection safe.

The question "Is the risk worth it" has two sides: a cost and a benefit. The answer depends on both how much you gain from it and what your risk profile is.

>>28813239
I would just wear an airbag over my regular clothes. You won't be getting enough speed where abrasion would become a factor, so it's just a matter of how much you prioritise your limbs vs your torso. I've never had any temperature problems with boots, but the weather here only goes between 0C and a fairly dry 40C.
>>
>>28813253
well I will ride in the city so the speed is mostly only up to 40mph so I don't think I will need an airbag.

Perfection. Real talk, I couldn't think of a 3rd bike for a 3 bike "perfect" lineup, like maybe one of those 750 OHV Urals for when you want to go further than the mailbox without blowing up, but even then I'd rather just a 750 OHV drivetrain in an older IMZ frame, so a single Ural is enough.

Finland always kinda sucked for motorcycle gear stores as they just aren't all that profitable, it's mostly just online retailers.
>>
>>28813425
>>28813623
You really want a full face helmet. All studies of motorcycle accident injury and fatality show a very high prevalence of smashing the lower half of your face to bits. Wearing a helmet but leaving that part exposed would be like riding with a jacket but no pants or underwear. Gloves but no boots.

GPZ900s are really cool bikes and can be built into really great easy to live with dailies. That one is probably pretty rough and whack but if you want a long term project you can improve bit by bit and enjoy experiencing it get better over time, it might be a good starting point.

I remember mine being total dogshit, every day something new and exciting was acting up. Either it was puking the coolant out or the carbs were flooding, the plugs went shit overnight or charging issues.
Ended up wrecking it when some asswipe decided to run a stop sign and pulled up in front of me.

Is there any reason to go with a liter sport bike over a 600 other than ego? This isn't a reproach, I want a liter bike. They just seem like the real deal. Will it kill my back to ride for hours though? I've only ever had naked bikes.
>>
>>28813783
Anyone who could actually derive real benefit from either a 600 or a 1000 already knows exactly which one they want. Either they're racing in a certain class, or they have other specific interests like the way they look. 600s are ridiculously fast and highly strung too, and will kill your back just as much. But most people who buy them really aren't getting the right bike.
99% of people will be just as fast and have more fun with a sport tourer or crossover. Or even just a sport bike that isn't a race replica.

Personally I'd buy a CB1000GT. Incredible bargain, and you get a (slightly older) supersport engine with all of the modern electronics. But I realise they aren't for the average supersport buyer.

How much is too much to pay for a new fuel tank? I have a bike that was wrecked by a previous owner, and the fuel tank has a couple of dents on both sides. I have found a NOS replacement with the exact colorway listed for $950, and I was thinking of offering $700. On one hand, it feels ludicrous to pay that much; but on the other hand, the tank is the last fucked up piece on this bike. I don't even know if I'm looking at it with the correct perspective of "worth it." Do I care about resale value? Would this be important for that sort of thing? It was a one year only color, and I never expected to cross paths with a replacement. I have a plastic tank cover with my set of new fairings I haven't put on yet.
just thinking out loud here

600 is a great learner bike, and a 600RR is the standard for a learner. It gets you ready for a literbike, which has much more power and at over 900cc's is twice the size.

I know a guy who started on a 125 for 6 months before jumping straight to a 600, then a GSXR-750, and now has an R1. We did a riding course together on a track, and I would have been able to lap him on my Ninja 250 if overtaking was allowed. He rode like an absolute grandma. He couldn't grasp the idea of rev match downshifts, because I guess he was just barely even shifting to begin with.

If you’re looking for “inspo” for gear you’re already well within the realm of fruity already.
I like my John Doe kevlar hoodie and pants, less restrictive than typical moto gear and lets you avoid looking like a cosplay when you step off the bike. Good for round town riding imo.
Technically loses some of the safety of more practical gear but it holds up in a slide which is all you can ask for really

Yeah, borrow.someone else's motorcycle and practice on it for a day, tops, and you'll pass with flying colors. The US is fucking retarded in this as there is an unsppken rule that they expect you to have been riding illegally for just long enough to have the basics down before you try and get legal.

Barring that, call the company doing the MSF and ask for a private lesson on the parts you failed. Some places will do it for a small fee, some might do it for free.

This is good advice, but is a bit outdated in terms of bike model recommendation and could use a refresh to cover the various 300cc models and other starter friendly bikes that have popped up in the years since this was made. It'd also be great to see a version that doesn't focus on sport bikes specifically since what constitutes a good starter can vary a lot depending on the purpose of the bike (IE - A DR650 is a better starter dual sport than a CRF450L despite being the same cylinder count and a larger capacity).
I can't complain too much, though, since I'm too lazy to do it myself

Okay, it sounds like you're completely new to motorcycling, which is totally fine. A day with a cheap bike and an empty space like an unused parking lot will do wonders since sounds like you just don't have the coordination and muscle memory built up yet, which can be overcome by just practicing. Finding some one-on-one training would probably help as well, especially since you know what your weak areas are so the instructor knows specifically what to target. Doing it in an environment where you don't have to worry about it counting as your skills test can take some of the pressure off and make retaining the information easier as well.
For bikes, I'd recommend something like a TW200 to practice on. It's got a low seat height and it's built to fuck around off-road so it won't give a shit if it gets dropped a few times. The power and gearing insures that you'll be doing plenty of shifting, even at parking lot speeds, so you can build that muscle memory while still staying relatively slow. Best of all, they're ridiculously fun little dual sport bikes, so you may even want to keep it even after you move on and get something bigger and more highway capable.
Rent or borrow a pickup or something if you're worried about getting it home.

No, it's retarded. It's like saying you're not a real driver unless your car engine has at least 5 L of displacement.
It makes the separation at 600cc stupid as well. According to your logic, if someone rides a 600cc bike for 10 years is a learner, but some idiot who has just passed the test and bought a liter bike is not.
>>
>>28814932

No, you just have poor reading comprehension.
600's are the recommended starter bikes for new riders.
900+cc's are considered to be advanced bikes, recommended for experienced riders.
Nothing says you are not a real rider if you ride a 600, just that new riders are best starting on a 600.

My old Fireblade is faster in the straights than my mates gixxer 600. When we exit the corner I walk away from him, even though my bike is down on power (worn out cam shafts and an unknown tune).
But his newer bike handles a lot better (and he's a better rider), so at the race track his fastest lap was 2.5 seconds better than mine. We didn't swap bikes so I don't know if I'm faster on his 600, but it's possible.
This video puts it pretty well
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlX1zsw-2Zs
The professional on a Ninja 500 was just as fast as the average rider on a Panigale.

That's if your riding on the race track. For street riding I still prefer my Fireblade because when you pull that throttle you always have power. On the 600, if you're cruising at lower revs it really has nothing. It makes the Fireblade feel more casual and easy going because you don't feel the need to rev it up all the time. Still love the gixxer though.
It's hard to say one it better than the other because they both have pros and cons. If I wasn't given the choice then I'd be happy with either.
>>
>>28814961
I can't bring myself to hate cyclists though. Mofos can be slow, but they're out there with the same risks as anyone else on two wheels, but with less protective gear and while being out of breath.

Bretty well described.
The 900 liter just has a ton more power available throughout the rev range.
You have to wring the shit out of 600's to make them go fast, hence they are the standard learner bike.
