Posting cuz duc minowa

My bike doesn't have a trunk because the previous owner installed a carbon fiber tail piece that's solid. I really want a trunk, so I could either buy another carbon fiber tail that does have a trunk panel OR I could save money and buy a painted OEM tail piece for HALF of what the CF tail would cost.

I don't mind the extra cost because admittedly it does look nice, but I'm not sure if it'd look better with the CF tail or OEM repainted (dude just painted it red with a white sticker spot for racing)
Thots?
>>
>>28869372
One thing that erks me is there is no white on the bike. It's silver, black, and red so I'm not sure if it'd stick out like a sore thumb or be kinda cool because muh racing heritage (could stick a number 69 on it for the hayden larp)

How is E-clutch and DCT on motorcycles? I'm deciding what to get as a first bike and Hondas look good with those.
>>
>>28869498
Changing gears is a complex and daunting task so fortunately God gave mankind the MaxiScooter.

Be a MaxiMan. Don't be a ClutchCunt.
>>
>>28869514

>>
>>28869285
The wheel is a gyroscope that only wants to stay spinning in one direction. Like pushing a bicycle downhill with no rider
>>
>>28869498
Made to appeal to women, car drivers, and other incompetents.
>>
>>28869522
I prefer to focus on the road and my immediate surroundings than wasting brain power trying decide which gear my bike should be in.

Changing gears is like texting on your phone. You're not giving your full attention to the road and that's how people die. If you want to die then buy a manual sportsbike. If you want to have lots of sex then buy a MaxiScooter.
>>
>>28869528

>>
>>28869527
Good thing I'm a woman car driver then
>>
>>28869498
newer DCT is fine
basically turn your bike into scooter
E-clutch is also nice
it turn your bike into semi-auto where you can just flick the gear without touching the clutch but when you need to use clutch like low speed feathering or jump over a rock then can just pull the lever like normal
just be aware of older DCT especially on something like first gen XADV
the DCT is so jerky its god damn awful to use in city riding
>>
>>28869498
Youre basically a cuck without ever learning how to operste a manual transmission in any motorized vehicle
Idgaf if you get one, but youll terminally handicap yourself just like modern drivers who never learned how to revmatch their cager tendies chicken strips
If you learn properly then get one, best be a shitter commuter scooter and you best be a SEA resident to justify this
Otherwise why even bother getting a bike, you lose so muxh control when reliant on automated systems

Or simply accept the fact that times are changing and people drive electric cars now and real motorcycles are automatic now. There's no need to anything manually in this modern era of automation. So eith catch up with the times or get left behind.

MaxiScooter is the future, and the future is now.

a 'maxi' is basically anything over 250cc so it will be better for highway speeds. and a maxi will have a longer wheelbase which gives it better stability on the highway.

it really all depends on how you plan to use it. if you never leave the city then a 125-160cc will be adequate.

Better than being a nobike i suppose
I shouldve just bought a yamaha

Bwcause its a lifestyle over there as a daily, good weather, ans japan makes a market for cheapies excluwively catered to their low displacelet demands
Plus they have 2 smokes rizzlers that go 250kph on a 250cc bored out supershoomer with bicycle tires- thats next level
Or weird modders like picrel with too much swag it cant be successfully replicates in america without causing a second civil war: war of the bikes, a REAL AMRRICAN MC 1%er screwball scrapout with riced out superscooter street racers

Manual will always be more fun to operate, rewards your skills, and puts you fully in control of the machine.
It's not stemmed from insecurities, it stems from controlling every aspect of your machine.

Just because you suck at shifting doesn't mean the bandaid fix is superior. Touring bikes get an exception though because they're traveling extreme distances so comfort is perfered for them.

>Manual will always be more fun to operate
Wrong opinion. Twist & Go will always be more fun to operate in the same way that a go-kart will be fun than a manual prius. When the controls are simplified it leaves the operator to focus on the task of steering and braking without clumsily fumbling through the gears.

KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) applies to all aspects of life including motorcycles.

>Yeah uh ok sure finding 1st gear actually wasn't a problem (I lied about that) but actually! Finding 2nd gear is a problem heh take that!
I'll speak for myself that I've never had that issue, but all my bikes are gp shift so maybe that makes it easier but even with standard bikes it's never a problem to go from 1st to 2nd assuming clutch fluid is bled / cable is set correctly.

Somebody Google searched how to ride a horse because you don't actually use a whip unless you're in a contest or training a young horse. Maybe for ranchers but can't say I've seen many use one

Gp shift isn't an automatic clutch anon.
Your ignorance is showing, just give it a break and sit down anon.

Gp shift just means instead of 1 down 5 up its 1 up 5 down.

On my MAXISCOOTER I can hold my coffee in one hand while steering with the other. Try that while fumbling with a clutch lever and see what happens.

>>
>>28869688
remembering anything requires brain power which means that brain power is diverted from the primary task of staying alive.

changing gears might be fine in a controlled environment like a race track but i share the road with karens so i need to focus on the karens instead of ""remembering"" wwhich gear i'm and and deciding whether to kick my foot up or down (while pulling in a clutch lever).

maxiscooters are simply safer.

You don't ever buy a used helmet from a stranger (unless it's a collector's piece), not only is it gross not all damage is visible especially to a new rider that might not know what to look for. €800 for everything is a good ballpark though but that is for everything you need, helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, and some jeans although it wouldn't be hard to get it under 700. The CB500X isn't a mall crawler at all, it's an unapologetic city bike. It can be an ADV if you want it to be, but it's mostly a crossover (upright sport tourer). If you want a car analogy, the NC750X is like a Subaru Outback and the CB500X is like a WRX.

Why do you want an e-clutch or DCT? Do you already ride an automatic or are you just getting old and lazy?
The NC750X is already pretty similar in price to the CB500X / NX500, they're just more practical and less sporty. I think they're nice bikes too, but I'd personally get one with a manual.

>>

desu I dont think a top box would be that bad on pan america
I mean it is an ADV bike so of course you put boxes on it
its not like a cruiser where its a sin to put a square aluminum box on it
you dont have to spend 5 times the money on some curve fairing boxes/bags with matching color
but since you already have them so thats moot

I don't thin the nx500 is getting the dct or cheaper in the states, the only reports were for cb500 and cbr, the rebel scl and nx all renholding price. The scl is cheaper and a bit shorter but the mike has been tuned for more torque at low speeds like the rebel.
>>28870511
The nc is more practical than an xadv, better cruising mpg, more aftermarket, more usable compartment space against a fucking scooter, and weighs more than 60lb less. Xadv is comedically heavy it is somehow in the weight class of a Honda shadow.

You sound like a beginner, so you probably don't realise how insanely easy motorcycle transmissions are to use.
You can slip the clutch as much as you want, even in second gear to navigate tight corners. And you literally don't even need the clutch to change up gears, just pre-load the shift lever and quickly blip the throttle off. Rev matching on the downshift is much easier than cars too.
You should get some kind of professional instruction regardless, so just make sure that's on a manual so you at least realise what you're giving up.

X-ADVs and Africa Twins are both terrible first bikes btw

Anons I'm fairly new to riding and I have probably a stupid question, but I haven't found a solid answer after lots of searching.
When you adjust your chain slack, should you measure with the rear tire on the ground or when the bike is on the center stand? I've been measuring with the tire on the ground, since when the suspension is loaded the slack decreases and there's a pretty huge difference in slack with the bike on the center stand vs not. Manual does indicate one way or another, haven't noticed excessive surging when getting on/off the throttle but this is my first bike so maybe I'm just used to a badly adjusted chain lol. Bike is a zuki gs550t, fyi
>>
>>28870983
It's a constant-mesh transmission, how did you think quickshifters work? Or for that matter how did you think the bike changes gears with the clutch? There is literally nothing wrong with clutchless shifting.

You missed a very important word in that sentence, btw. Not "blip the throttle", but "blip the throttle OFF".
>>
>>28871059
Always when it's on the ground, unless it specifies otherwise. Also make sure you move the bike so that all of the slack is on the bottom of the chain rather than the top. And lastly it's better for it to be too loose than too tight.
>>
>>28871073
Gotcha, yep been doing all of that. Thanks anon glad I've got it right
>>
>>28869287
I'm bored and can't sleep so I'll answer the way I understand it.
ADV is a class that is meant to do it all.
An offroad or dualsport bike will rarely go above 650cc, most likely they'll be around 125-400 more often than not. The reason they are like this is because they are driven hard and will get fucked so you don't want big, complicated and expensive engines in them and they are meant to be light so again see the former. They need to have proper suspension etc to handle it too. Range and top speed is secondary for them.
Ok now combine that category with something from completely different side of motorcycling, touring. They have to be comfortable, stable on the road and have long range(big tank). It wouldn't hurt if they were reasonably fast too(not sports bike fast but fast). Weight is a benefit for stability.

This is your ADV. It's meant to do 2 diametrically opposed things. Majority of the adv riders actually need a touring or sport touring motorcycle, but they see their usually GS as some status symbol(as if BMW wasn't known for amazing tourers for longer than some of these middle aged dudes are alive).
>>

I went out for a ride in a massive rainstorm on my Goldwing to experience the rain. It was lovely. First time I've seen water make it past the windshield and onto the Goldwings dash. Made good use of the fog lights. Pulled up by a dam in the rain listening to chill music on the speakers. It was very nice. This was the song that was playing when I pulled up:

Pic not from the day the rain was too intense to remove my phone from the bike.
>>
>>28869498
Nothing wrong with either system but you'll cop flak from bikes who think it's not a "real bike" without pure manual. Meanwhile they couldn't afford a DCT Goldwing if they tried.

Hondas are awesome and some of the best bikes ever made, such as the super cub, are effectively automatic. Go for it if you like them.

>>
>>28871093
IMO "ADV" isn't really a class at all, it's a catch-all for anything that's on a whole spectrum between dual sports and touring bikes. (Or sport tourers and in some cases even some of the more laid-back sportbikes.)

Personally I just need a touring bike that's decently easy and capable on dirt and gravel forest service/logging/fire roads etc. and dedicated tourers are way too pigfat for that, IMO things like big GSes are too but small and midsize ADVs strike a decent balance.
>>
>>28871228
PanAm is fine, have you considered the mighty T7 or vstrom or transalp? Take a test ride.
>>
>>28871292
ADVs are "adventure touring" bikes.
i.e. touring bikes that can handle poorly maintained dirt roads. They aren't designed AT ALL for going actually off-road, despite what their marketing would suggest.
Also literally any bike can ride down a dirt road, ADVs are just a bit better for the shitter roads.
>>
>>28871261
Yeah I expect this is the case. I mostly want it for dirt roads I don't want to bush bash.

>>28871281
Cheers king, good to know. I'm still not sure which one I'll get. A himi is no replacement for a Goldwing, but I think a Pan Am has the features to do so.

>>28871321
I've had a look at them but they don't visually appeal to me.
>>
>>28871337
Yep this is the reason I see a Pan Am. Similar features to a goldwing but can handle shitty roads better. Australia's roads are pure trash.

It's comfy, but it's quite tall, which can be intimidating.
Have a look at these options too:
>CB500X / NX500 (my bike)
>Versys 650 (my pick for American roads)
>Versys-X 300 (if you want something small)
>V-Strom 650 (comfy)
>Himalayan 450 (the pajeet budget option)
>450MT (the chink budget option)
>Tracer 7 (the same thing as the Tenere 700 but more road-focused)
>KLE500 (very new, so no idea what these are actually like but I bet they're good)

Also just FYI, you're statistically in the most likely group to crash and die. I get that you were taught by your dad, but please consider also getting professional instruction. The MSF is the absolute minimum, but there are other courses too.
>>
>>28871648
Too tall, too heavy and too fast for a first bike. This should just not be your first bike. Just get a Himmy 450 or NX500 for your first bike. Others, 450GS, 310GS, KTM Adventure 390, Triumph Scrambler 400 etc. Taller suspension = more comfort, so your ADVs will be more comfy than cruisers.

one thing to consider tho
if you plan to actually replace your car with bike and plan live on 2 wheels
you probably want to consider storage options too
is adv with a topbox good enough or do you need underseat storage?
also actually go try out the Tenere 700 in person if you really like the looks of it (personally I cant tell ADV bikes apart)
hop on it and see if you can flatfoot it, maybe even test ride it around parking lot if they let you (i doubt it if you dont have license)
if you have to tiptoe and find it heavy then reconsider
on the storage note also consider NC750X cause it came with a internal storage

How do bikers keep their hair neat for work and such? What if you rely on pomade or gel to have work appropriate hair but have to wear a helmet.

or be bald

I'm 177cm (6'1"), will something tall like a Vstrom be fine for me?

You'll be plenty fine, go get a test ride. Its one of the best bikes around.

Not how that vtec works at all on newer models. There would literally be no mpg or efficiency benefits like that. It goes from 2 valve to 4 with the super fours hyper vtech. The new hyper vtec revo work the same way. None are cylinder disengagement, they are valve disengagement through a pin. The revo engages in 6300rpm in 1-5th.

I keep my hair shorter.

I live under similar circumstances. Even single cylinder bikes are worthwhile but honestly lighter and shorter wheelbase above all else for that kinda of commuting.

Give it to me straight, I have experience riding 300cc scooters and passed my motorbike exam on a 700cc motorcyle. Everything went fine and I feel I'm pretty good at this.
But since I have no other experience than that riding real motorcycled, I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy a 900cc as my first motorcycle.
Not going to lie, pic related was always my dream bike and I don't see myself buying something else (Unless a Gran Tourer for future longer travels).
I'm not a fan of speeding or even limit testing, I'm pretty sure I'll never go past 130km/h during the next two years. Should I go for it?

I'm a nobike but why not the z650rs? It might end up being my first motorcycle and I prefer the idea to the z900rs because it's cheaper and presumably more manageable for a beginner. Also it's more than enough for 130kph even if you plan to speed
>>
>>28871780
Well just because I'm telling myself that since the gran tourers I'm aiming for are 1000cc+, why not get my hand dirty as quickly as possible by training with a 900cc. I also want to save me the trouble of buying/reselling the 650rs to upgrade later.
But yeah I thought about it.

G310R can do 130KPH all day. Z650RS is a fine bike, go ahead.
