I agree with this guy that you need wind breakers, hippo hands keep me warm down to 0F with heated gloves (I use gerbing) and down to 20F with my normal gloves and heated liners (again I use gerbing). Between 45 and 60ish I like the hippo hands alone with just my gloves on. The gloves I wear are aerostitch leather ones, for me they work between 60 and 90 without the hippo hands, and above 90 I have to switch to summer gloves

When I sell my 883 Harley, I’m thinking about buying a chopper and putting knobby tires on it like pic rel. I don’t even care.
Either that or I’m buying an old Suzuki DR to ride off road.

Been playing chainsaw while waiting for some warm weather to firm up the ground a bit so I can clean up my practice track, make some new lines, obstacles etc.

If day- Tell her I have to farm mangos with the boys.
If night- tell her I have to run mangos with the my gaijin biker gang, and possibly help people along the way.
Also, that I have a girlfriend, and she should really let go of my hand.

Probably a full dress bagger for long trips like a Goldwing or Vulcan.
A naked for ripping the twisties.
And a british single because I'm a fag like that and I love wrenching.

Currently got RE 350, BMW F800GT, BMW r60/5

My almond was immediately activated when I saw the boxer, but it looked off to me, realised it was an old airhead BMW.
No, didn't read your post obviously.

Telescopic front fork or a fancy leading link?
Airheads always looked kinda odd to me with how the top of it is dressed up and everything is hidden underneath.

How's the engine parts availability nowadays for old airheads? I know the parts are ridiculously overpriced compared to Ural parts and at least over here they're surprisingly hard to get.
247 swaps into Urals is a tale older than time and even I at one point was contemplating on pulling the trigger, but airhead engines are also pretty hard to find unless you're willing to pay almost new bike money.

My current Road King, plus a Honda CBR 500R, and I guess some kind of dirt bike despite there being next to no off-road opportunities within 100 miles of my home. Maybe fix my mother's old Super Cub up instead of the dirt bike for some mild urban adventure instead.

Is it at least a smooth rider for longer distances?
>>
is there anything wrong with holding the clutch and going from like 5th gear till 1 in one go ? I.e close the clutch, gear down to 1st and then release the clutch and take off from a stop sign for example
>>
>>28889267
On all of my bikes kicking down to 1st gear while in motion always drags the clutch like a motherfucker, basically a big no no.
Never understood why this happens because the clutch is open so the tranny should be disengaged from the engine.
>>
>>28889270
Kind of annoying when riding a 125cc and you're in 6th going 31mph

Constant downshifting if you don't double shift down etc
>>
>>28889275
Luckily I have only 4 gears in my bikes.
Also I don't think you even can double shift in my Ural, you have to release the clutch and press it in again to shift once again.
>>
>>28889265
Oh it's a fantastic bike when its running. Around 4 or 5000 rpm its smooth as butter. Twin parallel. Suspension and preload and ESA work great all in sync. Vacuum problems are notorious with it on F800riders forum.

speaking of the threadly question, my 3 picks would be

>either Bandit 1250 or FZ1 (sport standard bikes, full fairings normally don't make much sense to me, fuck dealing with them whenever you need basic ass maintenance or the headache ordering replacements for broken parts)
>Tenere 700 (some light side quests into the unknown could be nice but I like muh power)
>VFR800 (damn it sounds amazing and would work great on longer trips, be it cam geared or one with vtec. I'll pretend I didn't say anything about fairings above, I forgive you all my dear)

It is insane how cheap these are. Someone break the news as to why they are so cheap so I don't end up buying one. I need a "the engine explodes after X miles" or "the adaptive struts fail after Y months"

Was not a popular model. Like the livewire.
>>
>>28889367
I explained in another thread why the sales volume is so low, but actually it’s just bc people don’t want them
The older ones (pre 2023 I believe) have kind of weak electrical architecture, but the fix came in 2024 and is backwards compatible, parts and labor for the whole shebang I was quoted at 2 grand, and that’s only if you actually do run into the problem with the electrical, which I am told reliably is avoidable - it comes about from excessive auxiliary electric use, eg running heated gear, auxiliary fog lights c etc

>>
>>28889398
In short
Harley guys just want cruisers
Harley makes the best cruisers, and they’re Harley guys because Harley has made and probably always will make the best cruiser
If you wanted ANYTHING besides a cruiser, you’d never have opportunity to be a Harley guy
And I think cruisers are quite practical, a little luggage on a sporty and you’ve got a very useful machine
Anyway, people who can afford a pan America and are into big adventure bikes are, for lack of a better word, blue tribe
Harley is very red tribe. So there’s a signal there that many people don’t want to make. So they stick to bmw Ducati Honda etc.
I need Harley to stick it out until this changes

I very briefly owned an 88 I believe XJ650. It didn’t come with a title and honestly looking back it wouldn’t surprise me if it was hot. If it was in good condition I’m sure it would’ve driven better.
Currently I’ve got an 883 Harley. I’m trying to sell it, and after that I’m either going to look for a chopper, or either like a 90’s Suzuki DR

I’ve had a few dirt bikes (YZ250, KX250, and a CR450r), and I’ve had a couple road bikes. I love the lightweight feel of the dirt bikes compared to my Harley. What’s your take comparing the KLR to your road bike?

dude wtf
with the video that has been making the news am I the only guy that thinks it's so obvious the punisher guy was being a douche and the old guy is in the right?

I thought this was one of those things where the internet doesn't know about riders so they make a bad judgement call, but everywhere I see the story.

dude clearly can't ride for shit and is on a i4 rice rocket stunt bike lol. we all should know exactly what was happening based off a seasoned prejudice alone:
>full front break highside at 20mph on dry asphalt (how do you even manage being that bad?)
>has zero clutch/throttle control at a stop, bike zips away from him when after he tries to ride off the first time (directly at a curb for somereason, must have thought it was in reverse?)
>beginner on a stunt bike doing laps on a cul de sac - certainly he wouldn't go over 4k rpms as if these bikes aren't constantly demanding that you do
>old guy has some dual-sport/trail bike in his drive... he isn't just some karen saying it sounds mean, he definitely knows what it sounds like for a sport bike to hit 40mph in first gear

this shits a tale as old as time, are we really betting that punisherman was nursing his buddies 200hp suprabike at 20mph when he doesn't have the experience to turn around in a cul de sac without a 21 point turn and a little wheelie spill? and we're actually thinking this dude who clearly has ridden for a long time and is in the boomer stage of dualsport/trail riding probably has no expertise/experience with squids?

the KLR250 was a fun bike and about half the weight of my VT500 but she was just not fun to try and get on the highway with. 60-65 was already pushing it and she BUZZED and was blown around by everything, but I loved being able to hop onto local trails.
dont have many trails around here thatd require that kinda setup, have taken my honda on a handful of undeveloped roads just fine see >>28889648, and it is infinitely better experience on the highway but around town the KLR was nice for how light it was and the decent mileage. being able to hop curbs without worry was nice too.
think having a lightweight dualsport and a comfy road bike is the way to go desu

Thanks for that, friend. I’m seriously considering getting a bike like a KLR. I live in a rural area near a lot of dirt roads, and smaller towns, so I think it’d be really cool. However, I would also like to have a chopper, or at the very most get a bike to live out my Japanese gainin mountain mango farmer motorcycle gang fantasy. Honestly, maybe the KLR would be perfect for that.
>>
>>28889820
>despite him not really driving crazy at all, and under the speed limit
I mean that's the point I'm making. I feel like it's obvious to anyone who rides (or especially who used to squid around a bit) that based on the context clues there's no way buddy wasn't ripping it before the video starts.

Rider would have to keep it under like 3k to stay under 25 in first gear and be fucking idle in 2nd gear on that bike. It's just really doubtful anyone who rides would have a karen melt down over that. I would still think the guys a dumbass for stepping infront, but the non-moto internet would call him a hero if they saw him actually giving it a couple decent revs.
>>
>>28889826
just keep in mind the KLR is wicked tall and heavy for a first bike, but people love em. I know at least 3 people with KLRs, one dude just turned over 100k kilometers (maybe miles?) on his. aptly usually called a tractor because its about as close to a tractor you can get in a non russian street bike

>>
>>28889839
unironically farkles
get something stock if not outright brand new
and keep adding toys and bling until it fit your image
its more fun to ruin a perfectly good bike than fixing a clapped out one
something like CT125 or Grom is actually a good way to start
try to do basic maint like shock adjustment, chain lube or oil change yourself
like sure its not like you are taking apart engine but it a start
if you get a brand new bike then just bring it to the service to keep your warranty first
also what is your definition of a wrenchlet?
is it someone who can do oil change or change sparkplug? or you need to be able to take apart a carb and clean its jet? do value adjustment and whatnot?

The rev max engines are in their fifth year with no trouble, all the problems with the rev max bikes have been other than engine, and they’re making 100 at the wheel and 150 at the wheel on the 975 and 1250 engines with just a flash. They’re dead smooth, rev quick, and still don’t have valve adjustments.
The m8 meanwhile is the best big twin engine Harley has ever put out. The torque curve is broad, they’re the most reliable the big twin has ever been, the radiator placement is universally away from the lower leg fairing on the limiteds, which all get vvt now, I don’t know what you could possibly complain about.
You “people” being Harley buyers are the reason the engines have been stagnant so long. Completely retarded. Hopefully there’s not enough of you this time to keep derailing the moco.

I'm looking to get my first bike soon and until recently I've mostly only considered twins like an MT 07 or an sv650. But then I found out about supposedly manageable beginner i4s like a cb650 or a GSX650, are they good first 'kus or is that satan speaking? I will mostly be riding on highways
>>
>>28890125
Any of those bikes are fine. What's wrong with twins? They will feel torquier. SVsex50 is the bike to get IMO. Also consider CBR500R.
>>
>>28890128
I meant more about the i4s but thanks. Yeah I looked at a cbr500r too but there aren't any nice used ones in my area unfortunately.
>>
>>28890125
to be honest dont beat yourself too much over beginner bikes as long as you didnt wreck it or picked a chink bike
cause if you didnt like it you can sell it later and swap for something else with minimum lost
chink bike might be fine in 2030+ but as of today they lost 40% in a year
if you already tried everything you want and be like
>yeah the ibex is all i need
then and only then you can go buy it
>>
>>28890125
Imo if you want an I4 then get a 600 not a 650, yeah the 650s are comfier and little easier to live with/less punishing but there's more fun to be had with the 600/750s

Twins are just awesome, but it depends what type of experience you want. Having torque down low and mid range will have advantages in corners but the inline 4 will probably make you into a better rider due to the nature of that engine config forcing you to manage the rpms to stay above the mid range.

I'd say go sit on the bikes you want, and simply choose which one physically fits you the best. If the ergonomics feel right (with all of your gear on) or mostly right (can be remedied with rear sets and/or bar risers) go for that one then develop your riding skills around that bike that fits the best. Then you'll have a strong foundation to compare future motorcycles and how you ride said bikes with.

If you're riding on freeways most of the time, then you'll prob want the I4 instead of a twin.

What type of content do you want an American Motorcyclist to make?

I've toyed with the idea of doing that shit but desu I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.
I feel like even if some American wanted to make content most people will not be interested if they're not a woman or some ancient track star autist. Someone could say the most obvious fact but reject it because they didn't spent a gorillion dollars riding in circles at the track or minmax every aspect of their existence.

>I don't got the capital to buy bikes to review
>I could always try to review friends and strangers bikes but the issue with that is if the bike isn't taken care of it'll skew the review inaccurately
>Stunting is for tiktok and fags so no audience pull from that from me
>Wrenching videos will only go as far as whatever I own, unless I magically get commissioned to fix a buddies bike on camera

If you can't think of what you'd like to see, just tell me what you would NOT like to see.

the only ride review I enjoy is Zach Courts' daily rider because he's the only motorcycle reviewer I've seen actually review everything about a bike and not just the engine.
If I have to watch one more review where some slack jawed retard tries to tell me about how motorcycle rides/feels with 3 to 4 words they pulled out of thesaurus for "exciting" or "raw" while they get on and off and back on and back off the highway I'll lose it.

Panam bro, is there a setting that disables the adaptive ride height or locks it to one height? That's my one paranoia about the bike is that the auto-adjusting suspension craps out and leaves me with a pricy boat anchor.

It’s an option so you can just get a bike without it. The way it works is with the electronic preload of the suspension, so if you’re worried about this feature you need to be worried about any bike with electronically set pre load.

Big Rock Moto is absolutely exhaustive with his reviews (and, IMO, exhausting to watch because of it) if that's what you're looking for, but he's also kinda annoying and mostly focused on ADVs and dualsports. He's a good youtuber to watch if you're actually in the market for a bike and want to know everything about the options, but not very good entertainment.

Came out of my office to find this stuck on my bike.
The manager of this building absolutely HATES bikes parking on the footpath in front of the building, despite the fact that it's completely legal here.
He's threatened all of the people who park there multiple times, and now it's progressed to petty vandalism. There's actually a free undercover parking garage across the road, I just park here out of spite at this point.

The police say that if I can peel it off without any paint coming off, no crime was committed.
So I just stuck it back on his front door, and next time I'll give it back plus a few more.

Also they approached the whole thing badly. Instead of explaining why it was an issue for them, from the start they've just been aggressive. I just don't like bullies, and I don't believe in letting them win.
The issue is apparently that it blocks the view from a cafe into the grimy laneway.

>>
>>28890799
I mean it's only "free" in that you can skirt around the gate and that building manager says he doesn't mind too much. I'd rather park where I'm legally in the clear.
He's given me his name and number multiple times, it's very obvious who it would be if anything ever happened. He even has CCTV pointed at it, and if that mysteriously broke when something happened he would be in even more legal trouble.
This is a 22-floor apartment building, by the way.

If you want some proper pros about the bikes, it's the sidecar bullshit with 2WD, they're surprisingly off-road capable more comparable to an ATV than a dirt bike.
They've also been compared to tractors due to them having been a general workhose around Soviet farms, again comparable to an ATV

NTA wrenchlet here, what does an ECU flash entail? is it something I would do myself with a plug, a laptop, and something I found on the internet? or would I have to pay a guy with a dyno to do it? and if so, do I just say “give this bike more horses” or is other wrenching required to facilitate that?

well you can just take our your ECU and ship it to the guy, so he can copy paste the setting to your ECU
or take your bike to him, or let him come to you, or you meet at nearby dyno or parking lot.
no he isnt going to send you files and let you pirate his setting
no you dont want to download some random setting off the internet and install it on your car
anything you usually want to have the guy do it live instead of just copy paste cause not all engine are the same
its basically just another term for tuning
generally manufacture tune your vehicles in the worst possible way because of regulation like EURO4/5 on top of shits like speed limiter
so by ECU flash you basically unlock the limit to do what is generally the most performance out of your hardware polar bears be damn

the ECU is the electronics control unit
it tells your engine "under such and such conditions, give such and such fuel, use such and such ignition timing" etc. In the old days (or if you buy a particularly cheap and small motorcycle) this was controlled mechanically, for the fueling with a carburetor, but ignition was also controlled mechanically one of a couple ways. Anyway, because the ECU controls fuel and ignition and many other things, its a good way for manufacturers to tune their bikes to meet modern regulations. Suzuki can still sell you the same K5 engine because (to really summarize in short) they just have it send less fuel at any given throttle.

Now, the way the ECU decides what to do is basically a huge matrix. Conditions a b c d e correspond to scenario 1, and so on and so forth. This is an extremely powerful tool for meeting regulations, since the manufacturer can say "okay we're going to need to meet sound regs at such and such an RPM, make it underfuel around there so its quieter" and things of that nature. So what an ECU flash entails is someone going through all those matrices (and you want someone good to do this because you can easily brick your ECU doing this yourself as it tries to find a matrix that works) and changing the values.
In the case of the ZX4RR, the way the American market regs worked out (im not sure about other countries) the fuel cuts out at 11k RPM. Youre still WOT, but the ECU sees WOT plus 11k+ RPM and just will not give more fuel. So you dont get more power. By changing the matrices the ECU is using (and yes at the end of the day this IS copy and paste with a laptop, as long as youre just flashing) it sees WOT plus 11k+ RPM and gives more fuel so you get more power.
You can go further than a flash, all the fuel in the world doesnt matter if airflow is bad, so an exhaust plus a more aggressive flash can give better results, as an example. That requires more work wrenching.

>>
>>28891060
>>28890940
A lot of the time when a seller is talking about "tuning" they'll talk about different "stages." Usually you'll hear something like this breakdown
>stage 1
just an ECU flash. these burn as much fuel as they can with the stock airflow
>stage 2
often this is modification to the downpipes and opening the airbox, plus more aggressive fueling
>stage 3
anyway, it usually entails more extensive modifications to the air intake, and a full exhaust system all the way to the headers, with again more fuel
>stage 4
this is as far as "tuners" go, usually they start calling themselves "builders" after this, or a similar marketing term, but many tuners will install aftermarket turbo or super kits along with, you guessed it, more aggressive fueling. usually "tuners" are just installing a kit for you that someone else designed, and they don't do custom work for stuff thats not on the market

Thats my experience with "tuners" and ECU flashes etc. You can take it for what its worth, different parts of the country are different, and i'm more familiar in the context of crappy cars.
