An airbag can deploy and slow or potentially block you from being throw from your bars and the design of that particular bike has a front that will take the abuse and side flares to keep you from being the first thing to hit the pavement. Not sure if it actually works that well, but I can see the reasoning. Seems like an airbag vest is better tho
