I really like the aesthetic of the Yamaha R3 for my first motorcycle, but do you guys think it's too slow? Planning to do city riding mostly but some long distance trips like 3+ hours and the speed limit around here is 80+
0 experience
>>
>>28919419
no, get at least a 650 twin if youre going to do execessive highway. I've done multi day trips on my 400 ninja, but I cant say it was the most enjoyable experience. Also I'm pretty sure their stupid drive shafts are still made out of cheese, so fuck them just for that. Dont care if you guys post the R3 guys beating the R1 on the twisties.

>do you guys think it's too slow?
Very few bikes are too slow, it's moreso that you need to wind out the engine to keep it at pace on a highway and it doesn't feel good.
>>28919421
>Would a naked bike like the SV650 not be worse on the highway because of wind?
The SV650 has faired variants (SV650S/X), there's also the Vstrom which is the greatest bike ever made but I don't think you're old enough to like that yet
You can get windshields, windscreens, and more to make highway riding more comfortable but the big key difference is that it is far more comfortable to sit on for long periods and has the grunt to do highway miles without feeling like it's running out of breath.
I did a couple 250ish mile days on my R3 and it felt more like I was doing silly challenge than enjoying a trip.
>>
>>28919429
thanks for the replies guys. Maybe something like a ninja 650 would be a better option for me to maintain a more sporty aesthetic
>>
>>28919432
>650
why settle for 650 when you can have 689.
>>
>>28919432
I'd go for an yamaha R7, or suzuki GSX8 line if youre buying new.

ninja 650s are outdated in the ptwin class, but theyre so common to find used. do NOT fall for the eur*pean bikes as a first bike

Ninja 650 are cheap.
R7 get stolen constantly and expensive.
GX8 expensive.
>>28919419
Go for the Honda 500 boring engine but you know it will last longer than you. Little tip after break in, Up the front sprocket by one tooth and it will make crusing on the highway easier.

Already registered to get my A loicense, which chink 95hp bike should I get as my first shitter?
I'm looking at the new kove 800x and looks nice, now you can limit it to 47hp in some modes so I can safely learn how to operate it.
>>
>>28919513
Transalp and NX500 are so cheap these days there is no need to get chink bike
Especially they are your beginner first bike
Or even KLE500 or Himalayan
Simply cause when you want to swap for bigger bike later you can't if it's chink
Don't get beginner chink bike in 2026
Wait until 2030 when chink brand gain enough rep to not losing half of their value in one year then you cab buy chink bike
But I mean if you set on I want this 300-400cc chink bikes that you can use every day daily for the next 10 years
Then sure but don't expect to flip it later without losing half it's value
t. Zontes owner
>>
>>28919521
I was also interested in the eclutch version of the nx500, it's on my price bracket since they lowered prices this year, the transalp sadly is too expensive for me, with the 8k the kove costs I'd be stretching the budget, but at 9.9k is far over it.
I could also go for the kle500, but I'd need to take a look at some reviews because I didn't find it too appealing when it released.
>>
>>28919442
Yeee
>>
>>28919419
it depends highly on where youre from
if youre american and can just go unlimited CC, maybe get a slightly larger boring ptwin 600+cc like a Ninja 650
if you have to adhere to size rules, and an R3 fits your limitations, its probably an alright choice
but prepare to break your back on a long ride on a "sports"(styled) bike

It's a fun little bike i'm enjoying it a lot!
it may be very small for some people but it's perfect size for me, i spent 5 hours on the smaller roads riding around yesterday but even highway speed is ok, you can easily pull to >140kph so it has enough power but being a small single it's not exactly happy about it. it will do it but if you don't mind slowing down to 110 it's better (and you also get a bit less pressure on your head since it's still a naked)
i think the older gens have a more unique style but i prefer the look of these gen3 and i got mine new for not much more than the asking price of some used gen2 around here (that are sold for too much) and they fixed some problems.
Aftermarket stuff is a bit hard to come by but it really doesn't need much.

I say maybe go take a test ride? of you can find a 2024 model sitting in a dealership you might get a good deal like i did, but if you have any questions about it just ask

No - I'm a hipster who wants a bike that looks nice and is comfy for a passenger
>>
>>28919686
there are maybe a half dozen bikes that are truly "comfy for a passenger"
A Harley big twin, and indian big twin, a honda goldwing, a bmw k1600b, and whatever bmw calls their giant cruiser, i think it's the r80 grand america or something like that, i dont want to google it
if you REALLY a hipster and you REALLY want to have a comfy passenger then you should build a sidecar rig (if youre a "things were better in the past" hipster) or you should buy a tadpole style trike from can am (if youre a "i need to be different" hipster)
>>
>>28919525
I mean if you dont think you are ever going to switch to any other bikes later
then you can probably get Kove, Ibex or whatever chinese bikes you want
but if you think you might then better stick to meta picks
even if your new Kove end up with the perfect reliability that last forever and have parts readily available for years to come
nobody will still buy that bike off you
cause they rather just buy a brand new one instead when the time come
maybe things will change in 5-10 years but its not now

His actions directly Crashed the German economy AGAIN but even worse because they had ww2 debt stacked on the prior great war debt.

Bbk to 341cc+tune+velocity stack+exhaust+41mm throttle body gets 41hp consistently but not reliably. It is a shit race build like that, a turbo 286cc build or 301cc bbk build make a more reliable race bike but a lot less hp.
I want the new cbr250rr to leave Japan.

It's my first cruiser, I've had my 5th gen VFR forever, and a 450 honda cafe before that.

I don't like the peg scraping as I'm definitely a better rider than Indian imagined. Not that the bar was too high to begin with, however I don't think that's the point. It's a performance cruiser and it's meant to cruise.

I'm still wrapping my head around the concept, but I also never have a bad ride.

The Enfields are nice bikes, I rode a few of the older 500s and they're good fun, I imagine the newer 650s will be better and make up for the lack of power.

Failing that, the Honda 500s like the CL500 and CMX500 and really really easy to ride and generally beginner friendly, but with enough power that you won't get bored immediately either.
>>
>>28920518
Scl500 has nearly the same performance as the bear 650. Rebel 500 should be about the same as the classic probably.
>>
>>28920528

Yeah the CL500 and Rebel both have the same engine and performance, probably same brakes etc too. Hondas are probably a little more refined and reliable than the RE, but I'd still happily have either to be honest.
>>
>>28920532
I meant thhat as the bear 650 and classic share engines like the rebel and scl.

>>

Yeah I don't think anon would be disappointed with either, they're all great bikes, it'd probably just boil down to which they like the look of.

Good luck bro. Hope this was your first offense. Maybe because you stopped the judge or DA will show some leniency. A lot of areas have been really cracking down on speeders. If you were in Florida you would have already been in jail with they're new super speeder law.

This is honestly one of the reasons I walked away from buying another supersport the other day. I have self control but its just too easy hoon. Influences have made the streets to hot. Thanks to them the cops know all the good spots now.

That's going to depend on on how many shell sizes they make, one-size obviously is going to be big, but a two-size lines that splits between medium and large will be what you want, that is, small shell for x-sm through medium, large shell for large through XXL. Reminder, though, that the mechanics of helmets means larger helmets can be more protective.

>>28920996
If you don't feel it when you're braking then don't worry about it. You could scrub it with a steel wool pat just enough to brake up the surface and let the pads grab it and pull it off.
You could also replace it if you just don't like the looks. Get some wave rotors or something.
If you do feel it stutter or pulse or something when you're stopping, then yah replace it.
>>28921011
He avoided jail time. Nice.
>>
>>28920904
You can lower the seat, lower the suspension, or do what everyone else does which is learn to live with just one foot on the ground at a time.
My short king friend from college set his suspension to zero preload front and rear. Made landing jumps super soft and he would jump it off of loading docks, etc. Was cash.
>>
>>28920996

It doesn't look too bad, as long as the brakes feel okay I wouldn't worry too much, at most maybe check the pads for contamination if they feel a bit crappy, if so change those first, and if it's still no better get a new disc, but personally that looks fine.

Weirdo.
It's difficult to make something good for a low price. But it's super easy to make crap for a lot of money.
When it comes to helmets, like I said, the safety aspect is inexpensive. What you get at a higher price point is amenities (go look it up) nicer interior, flip-down sunshade, etc.
Here's the test results for a Bell Qualifier. ECE and Snell allow 275 Gs, and this cheap-ass $150 helmet stays below 200. Because getting protection in a helmet is easy, just use a thick soft EPS bump liner.

Not really. I was burnt out with klim after buying a newnset of their gloves for winter. The gauntlets barely do more than my regular leather gloves. Btw the bilt was my first helmet(3 years and 1 lowside in), I have a lane spliter but it works poorly for work commuting since it is shaded only. >get gently nudged by a basedboy at a red light
>he has insurance and admits fault
>now I get literally everything fixed on my bike, even if it was probably from earlier drops
>I even get $950 cash for a new helmet, and they made it pretty clear that I can just keep the money
Heh... Nothing personnel, kid.

>classic looking naked CB with a rerouted exhaust
Honestly, for me, I'm fine with what the SCL is. I saw people were dogging on them for not being real scramblers, but I don't plan on taking it offroad. I have plenty of gravel roads within even a mile of my house, so I wanted something that tentatively could. At least with just honda, I was looking between the scl and nx for a 500cc, and the big difference was that I just liked how the scl looked
>>
>>28920996
Don't worry about it. That's nothing.
>>
>>28921156
similar thing happened to me my first month of riding
>stop at a stop sign
>go to take off
>start moving but then stall
>car behind me keeps going and hits me
>>

did you punch his lights out?
>>
>>28921187
no i wasnt sure if it was my fault or not so i just said whatever dude and rode off. it was a cheap 250cc starter bike, and the bike seemed fine, other than a bent-up license plate, so whatever

ended up flipping the bike for $500 profit a few months later

probably gonna have to go to a shop and ask them, or take a ladyfriend with you to judge
maybe try HJC, they have some alright budget-y options like the i70, but theyre american head sizes so who knows

Friend was hit by a car today, not badly hurt but shaken up and thr bike front forks are fucked.

Riding behind a ram
They drift half into the left lane
Turn right into a driveway
Friend slammed into them

The driver has claimed that he didn't need to use his turn signals because he was turning into his driveway.
>>
>>28921244
I mean, the guy's still a cunt for no turn signal, but a reasonable distance behind prevents running into someone.
>>
>>28921244
your friend was riding way too close
>>
>>28921222
Unfortunately the three places around have very limited options for helmets. Somehow with 3 cycle gears and 4 dealers the only brands around are agv, sedici, bilt, ls2(but only dirbike helmets), shoei rf1400, hjc i10, or bell. Only helmets I see full ranges from are bell, sedici, bilt, and agv period. I have an easier time finding jackets, pants and full suits than helmets.
>>
>>28921244
your ""friend"" fucked up
>>
>>28921162
Same. And same about not getting people dogging on them. My biggest issues with it is simply that they should have just left the sprockets the same as the nx/cb500x since they gave it cb500f cams already. So your top and bottom end aren't really matched well for cams and gearing. Plus the oem tires make it a bit slower to get up.
I plan on moving to the scl500 next year assuming nothing goes wrong and I don't getbtempted to buy a cb300r to put around on. Rebel300 got me used to scl/cl/cmx stuff enough though. Funny enough I like the nx500 for looks I just don't fit well on it.
>>
Btw guys if there is play in the gear shifter would that be a reason that my rebel doesn't want to go in gear when I start the engine?
I keep having to work the clutch open and closed a lot before it suddenly lets it click down.
>>
>>28921276
I found my hondas were only able to start
In neutral
My experience with yamaha and kawasaki is theyd stwrt with clutch in while in 1st or any other gear
>>
>>28921276
Otherwise have you tried rolling it forward a little? Sometimes the plate sticky at an awkward angle / interval and just needs to push it in motion a bit to fix

Idk if you mean why are my gears slipping through the clutch, dont slam gears around without the clutch fully engaged
>>
>>28921291
No like the shifter itself is stuck, not clicking up or down, when I say it has play I mean the linkages let you wiggle it around but it won't click up or down from neutral withbthe clutch held in after starting.
>>28921289
I am starting in neutral. The shifter is stuck. Like the feeling when you are shifting down into first abd try to shift down again kind of resistance. But it does this starting from neutral a
. Up or down on the shifter has that resistance. Opening and closing the clutch a bunch of times will eventually let me shift, with clutch held in of course.

Honestly, thinking about buying an old Ironhead. They sound pretty good.
>>
>>28921306
You need to move your bike forward and backward a little bit to let the dogs align in your gearbox.
>>
>>28921306
Maybe your plates are worn down
Or you enjoy slamming 2 to 1 and clutch control is shit
Idk, is it both up and down, just those two gears?

I think I decided my next bike will be the eliminator 500. Anyone tried it?
>>
>>28921433
Most piss twins feel about the same until bigger displacements or the triumph cruisers
Prob be better in the long run with a rebel 1100 or a triumph bike if thats what you want
Wouldnt buy one new

>next
you mean first?

I kinda want something light and fun to ride thats relaxed, but I'll look at that. Looks like the 1100 rebel is pretty light, don't know if i care for the rebel look though.

I have a dumb question. If you have your bike dyno tuned for whatever modifications you have, do you need to have it tuned again if you change your gearing?
>>
>>28921546
Why though? Sprocket is a simple change. As a fellow dumb, the answer is no.
>>
>>28921566
Are you asking why you would change gearing or why you would have to dyno tune it again after changing gearing?

Anyone else have problems with their Sena 60S?

A few months ago my right speaker cut out so I got a replacement under warranty and it just happened again. Is Sena really this shit or could I be unlucky and got faulty part twice?
>>
I want something like this that holds the rear wheel while the axel is out.
I hate balancing the rear wheel while trying to get the brake disc in, keeping the spacers from falling out, and ramming the axel in.

guys, I've had fork seals replaced a month ago as one of them was leaking - but that's not fixed the leak, the garage are saying I would need a new stanchion as well; now I have no idea, is it one of those things where I should replace both at the same, or can I just do the one that is leaking? would I also need another set of new seals?
