I want to move from a single cylinder dirt bike to a twin cylinder adv. The 650 single has been great, but unsurprisingly, it's more dirt bike than I need, and not enough of a street bike for highway trips. 2-3 hours of highway on it, even with an upgraded seat, veers into outright unpleasant territory, and I would like to be able to cover 5 hour trips at some point.

So, it's time to move to a twin that can still bomb down the FM/CR dirt roads here after they wash out. I know the default answer is going to be a t7 with a better seat, but I'm a wrenchlet and I have to do all the work on the bike, and I'm about to do another valve check/adjustment on the dirt bike. A valve adjustment on a T7 looks like a fucking nightmare. I don't have 6 hours to blow on a Sunday taking out cams and shit. In fact, most parallel twins require cam removal.

So that leaves the v85tt, which is not light or fast, but it does have nearly 7" of suspension travel for pot holes and ruts at speed, and access to the airbox and valves isn't terrible. Is this a stupid idea? A backup option is the Transalp, which is short bus runner up because while I wouldn't have to remove cams for valve adjustments, it's still a 4 hour job, and you do have to remove a gas tank just to clean the damn air filter.

>"Have you tried adventurer bikes?"
my younger colleagues both wanted adv bikes, one got a transalp and the other a cbx500 as they like the idea of traveling with it but they think they need a big adv to do so.
I think the target demographic somehow went down and now youngsters don't want faired sport bikes, but girls do!
Talked with our most recent intern at an after work event and she said she has a 125cc sumo but her dream bike is a yamaha r6, she just doesn't have the money to go up to the needed license and get one but she said as soon as she has a bit more she's getting a ninja400 (she also proceded to make fun of the transalp guy since he was trying to act tough with her and called him out for having a dad-bike)

Btw i went out again with the guy with the 390 dude said he knows some really amazing scenic roads he can show me to take some cool pics for my 'ku.
crossing fingers i get the new bucked by next weekend too

>>
>>28942248
i dunno if anyone here actually has done it but i have done regular backpack camping and i imagine it's pretty similar. if anything you can probably haul in more shit because you've got a whole motorcycle to put it on instead of just your back. if you're doing just a day or two you really don't need much.

I know it's a meme nowadays but I still want to go motocamping. I used to go camping when I was a kid, so it's not like it's totally outside of my interests, but all of my gear is old and busted, and camping gear isn't cheap.
I was actually thinking of maybe trying to make my own leather luggage once I have the bike, but that's a project for the future.

i started normal camping for festivals in my 20s. the first time i just had shitty cheap garbage from walmart but i did actually survive and it was fine. it was just annoying. but it didn't cost much and i came to realize what stuff was actually worth spending more on and what stuff i didn't even need, etc.
i think you ought to just give it a go. go get some cheap shit to replace anything broken and then just send it. even if you hate it you're probably not going to be out more than what, a couple hundred bucks?
>>
Want a cheap dual sport. Seems like the two 'go-tos' are either CRF300 or KLX300. KLX is overall the better bike, but CRF has one major advantage. A working fuel gauge. For spacey retards like me, this is huge. I'm kinda leaning towards Honda.
>>
>>28942286
i love drz. no fuel gauge so maybe a downside if you're a spacey retard but you can just look at your odometer. it's like 100 miles until you have to switch to the reserve tank and then you've got like 25 more miles. you can even switch it while riding. it seems like a bigger issue than it is.

Took this for a spin. Not going lie its a good bike. On back roads its a fun little toy. This thing is going to be a good track bike. And yes its not a R6, that bike will always hold a special place in my heart as my first bike.

Also side by side in the dealership the new R7 body work and face look better than the R9's face. But maybe I'm just getting old and miss sleek fully faired wingless bikes.

but now with stacks/filter/full exhaust/tune you picked up 60whp?

Did you bolt on a turbo? or n2o? I have looked at actual turbo kits running like 7.5psi and they are only making like 14 more whp than your basic bolt on/tune bike huh? dude the stock motor makes like 11.5:1 did you also bore/stroke/deck head/bump compression way up and cam it as well as different throttle bodies/fueling and cant run pump gas and upgrade the rotating assembly so you could rev it to the moon?

lol no just no.

what are the real life consequences of "riding where you're not supposed to"? the other day i hopped a grass median separating some parking lots and it feels like a thing i am not supposed to do, but i'd do it on a bicycle all day no problem.
is anyone going to give a shit about this? what about riding down those clearings along side electrical transmission lines? what if i go down a trail meant for bicycles? what if i hop up on the sidewalk?
at what point to people (read: cops) give a shit? am i legally allowed to do any of this or is a motorcycle basically the same as a car, legally?

Whenever I look at 5yo italian designs they always look terribly aged, everything from shape to colors is visibly dated.

I've always wanted those downwards facing bar end mirrors, but can't install them on my bike.
Some old Simsons had regular mirrors that came under the handlebar instead over it and they looked so cool, but they also tended to hit the gas tank at full tilt, which is why they gave up on them.

that's 8 years old and it still looks like something they would release today. MV Agusta isn't the best example, most of their bikes are bulbous or lumpy. the only issue with that Stradale is the headlight. V style headlights always age poorly.

I have a friend who bought the CF Moto 850 version of that bike about 2 years ago, he just had a recall for the screen (some electrical issue) they replaced it and now the bike wont start, This was a few weeks ago and they gave him a CRF300 as a replacement (He hates the thing) For the last year he had a big bike trip through europe planned for this month and still hasn't got his 850 back, told him when he bought it he'd regret it as its chinese shit, didn't listen to me, now all his planning and big trip are ruined.
>>
>>28943052

I'm in an owners group and they are exactly the type of people to complain about that kind of shit.

I and maaaaany others put these through some pretty rough shit and so far so good. By all means if you can find me an example of one having weld failures I'd happily be proven wrong.

>>28943053

>Can you explain how you cope with things like that?

I've never even looked up the numbers on this bike, I just felt one in person and liked it, I guess it was probably somewhere in the realms of a Honda 500 which is about that same power and weight range, although it is pretty shitty if they did lie about that stuff. As for the subcription thing, it's totally optional as far as I'm aware, I'm not interested i using it, no other bike I've ever had before has needed it so I don't know why I'd start now.
>>
>>28943060

That's unfortunate, I can only speak for my experiences with this bike and other people with the same one, the biggest issue with this one was shitty fuelling on first gens because the Chinks made the engine work for their market and then had to make it Euro 5 compliant which made it run like shit, but the 2025+ models don't have that issue. This is a first gen and I've modded it substantially anyway so I decatted it and had it remapped to suit and it's running great.

On bikes they're for road rash on the legs, theoretically a fast on fast off alternative to leather pants.

Been putting off reassembling my bike after an exhaust and stacks because I need to find or fab AIS block off plates. I was merely going to cap the lines that come from them but it looks like the PO already removed them and left them open. I already half made a pair out of an old sign but I'm not feeling great about them.
Now I just read on the Shadow forum that only Shadows destined for Cali have this pair system installed and that the rest of the motors just have a blank where the hole would go. Does this look like it might be the case? I haven't been able to find a bolt that fits because there's no threads maybe (I had assumed the starter deel in the hole). I've been riding the thing for three years without noticing. Would be nice to not have to worry about it and stop motherfucking the last guy who had her. Why chinks are so pathetic? It takes one minute to verify the claim yet they still feel the need to lie.

Let's take BMW for example. They manufacture engines for bikes in Germany, except for their cheapest ones. And not just "engines" but everything for it - starting with bolts and finishing with the engine blocks and control units from Bosch. Maybe only gaskets are made in Poland or something. Chinchong need to steal plans for all of those parts to make a shitty copy of it, yet they still can't figure it out.

Australian here, considering options for a dual-sport for the following purposes:

AJP PR7 road legal rally bike.
The triumph scrambler is also another good choice.
KTM new single is alright after you flash it to fix the fueling at low rpm.
>>28943830
What is weird is Honda hasn't announced the super four for Australia but zx moto has. If they did it would be like bellini and HD both selling the same QJ and one is 2k more for orange paint.

>>
>>28943839
Unfortunately all those look way out of my budget, the KTM is the best fit but yeah, spenno. I don't see myself spending more than $5-6k on this to start with, especially since I've never done off-road riding before and I just know I'll break something.
>>
>>28943822
it doesn't matter if you go off-road because the police will still fine you for ""speeding"" and having fun because NO FUN ALLOWED in Ausfailure.

The DRZ and DR650 are your best options, especially in Australia.

Have you seen Australian road rage incidents? There's a video of some lead paint boomer chasing a teen on a dirtbike through the suburbs and offroad and running him down and the kid on the bike is the only one that got charged.
Australia HATES motorcyclists and anyone who drives anything besides a stock corolla.
>>
>>28943869
weird. i've been riding for nearly 40 years and nobody has been mad enough to chase me thru the suburbs. maybe that teen was a cunt (or brown).
>>
>>28943866
I've been riding on-road for 4 years, it's fun as fuck in its own right. This is just another aspect of riding that I want to explore, and it's a shitload cheaper than buying a 4WD and all that shit while also getting me into places that a 4WD never could. If anything I feel safer on the road, since riding on dirt and sand is almost guaranteed to lead to a crash while I'm still learning.
>>
>>28943872
at some point you may reach an age when you'll realise that YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING.

i think you're a pussy who doesn't play well with others so you crave the isolation of the sand dunes so you can be forever alone.
>>
>>28943869
Worse road rage I seen was a shift worker done with a boomer acting like a boomer and pinned him between his car and the boomer car and kicked his head like a football until if came off.
>>
>>28943876
The only reason I'm considering this idea is so I can go riding offroad with a friend, so no, you're wrong.
>YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING.
No shit, every day's a school day. Is this supposed to be some kind of revelation?
>>
>>28943881
i had a road rage incident today that resulted in me punching off a cager side mirror because he got too close to me. i had right of way but he barged thru and i had to take evasive action and punched his mirror. fuck him.

I have a WR250R and my brother has a DRZ.
The WR was attractive to me because of the light weight and EFI, but the DRZ is still great for what you're looking to do.
I'd chose either, everything else either compromises on-road or off-road too much.

I'm swapping my CB125F (+2K€) for brand new Super Cub, because on my current bike, after like a 40 ride I'm in too much pain. I'm 158 cm in height, so I'm hoping that Super Cub will be more comfortable.

Am I being delusional, or will I resolve my pain issues?

The alternative is getting a scooter, but I don't like that they're no longer associated with women and are instead associated with delivery drivers, to say the least.

CB125 might be better than cub when it comes to suspension. Have you tried any of the small advs? Himi, they glide over everything. But you might be better served by a CB300R, you won't tire from a small 40km ride in a CB300R and that baik is quite small and might fit you well.
