Moraknivs are simply the best knives to invest into if you are practically minded.
I loved them before I ever used the /out/ board, and with good reason.
We have 3 knives we use in commercial fishing.
Victrinox pairing serated knives are great for being excessively sharp right out of the box, and they're dirt cheap. They last about a week and half before we replace them.
This is the knife we carry 24/7.
We have knives for j-cutting, they need to be resharpened and honed frequently to be effective, but they last forever.
Then there is the fucking morakniv.
We stab 1-2 millions of pounds of cod in the gillplates over the course of 3-4 months every year.
We only use moraknivs. The entire cod fishing fleet.
They are cheap and expendable and easy to stockpile.
They can be sharpened and maintained easy enough.
After stabbing 1000's of cod, the only knife deformity will be a small curve on the knife tip before it breaks off, about 1/16".
Thing will still stab great though.
We only need replace them when an idiot loses his.

I use my moras daily as steak knives when I'm home.
>>
>>2702168

Ive never owned a pull through in my life. I use diamond plates, and a smooth and grooved steel hone for maintenance. I use to sharpen knives for extra money. I know MUCH MUCH more than you about sharpening i assure you. The steel they use for most Bucks do not form or hold an edge well. Now go to bed you literal child, its way past your bedtime

the Mo-Va steel on the first one is something like a 420 or 420hc and has just 55 hrc, meanwhile N690Co is a proper decent steel (a lot like VG10) and is gonna be closer to 60hrc which makes a world of difference. the sheath on the second also looks more complicated and appears to include a sharpening stone. there could be more difference in manufacturing /finishing quality too but that's hard to tell.
>>
>>2702770
>side lock
It's not so much better as the liner lock is worse
>thumbhole
Large and heavy and in the way.
>plain blade
At least we can agree on this, yes?
>corkscrew
The Phillips is redundant with the can opener, and the orientation of the back Phillips sucks balls to the max when you have to bear down on the screw.
>>
>>2702843
are you seriously saying that a hole is heavy and in the way?
>>
>>2702840
The pen is a nice idea. How long does it typically last?
>>
>>2702849
Yes baby.
The liner lock adds an additional layer to the knife. The thumb hole makes it awkward to use the saw, gripping the closed blade in the handle creating hotspots, leading to blisters.

I'm sorry you had to find out this way.

I thought it might have been too small but it looks ridiculous for edc in my temporary hustle and bustle in the city
>>
>>2703134
well yeah. the 10 stands for 10 centimeters of blade length, so 4 inches.
for daily carry I'd say 8 tops, I have a 9 and it feels quite large already. since the opinels handle is cylindrical instead of flat, it grows in all three dimensions much more noticeably than most folders do. you feel it in the pocket.

I just question the Axis Lock's omega springs. I hear stories of them breaking on people.
>>

>Aus8 and d2 are both kinda suck

What are you people using your knife for that requires steel stronger than those you mentioned?? Are you people bush crafting? Are you cutting tubes all day long? Prying things open constantly?

Why do I feel like 99% of all knife people use their knife to open up Amazon packages.
>>
>>2703134
I wanted an opinel for years and I finally got one for a trip to Patagonia. It worked fine for a few days, but after being out in the damp and after about 5 days of heavy use, the wood swelled up and the it became impossible to close. My day was ruined and my dissapointment was immeasurable.
>>
>>2703506

the goal posts have moved a lot with the introduction of 'super steels' out there like M390, 20CV, etc. That being said, cardboard dulls the shit out of your knife, so having a steel with better edge retention isnt a bad thing. That also being said, you can maintain a very sharp edge with D2 if you strop it regularly
>>
>>2703597
I think i'm going to stick to $60-$100 knives instead. I just spend $240 on the 940 Osborne and I kind of regret it to be honest.

They start out like razor but hard to resharpen, steel very hard. You need 2 whetstones (medium & fine) to bring them back.
>>
>>2702168
>dulls extremely fast
Many reasons to not like Buck (slippery handle when wet, blade thickness) but they hold an edge. Hard to resharpen if using anything other than a whetstone. Ceramic rod or v-scraper won't do it.

Recently looked into this. Growing up I had some big but beat up stones my grandpa had given me out of a machine shop and a few grocery store stones. Settled on the King 1000/6000 stone you can get on Amazon for ~$35 as there were plenty of recommendations for it online as a "starter" stone. Did a pocket knife with some kind of 440 stainless first and it was predictably very slow to grind but worked out. Worked my way through the kitchen block of softer stainless (not sure exactly what as there's no stamp) and those only took a few minutes each. After getting those 5 blades to ad paper slicing sharpness there is some irregularities in the 1000 side as it makes alot of sludge so I ordered an Atoma 140 diamond plate stone to use as a lapper and for extreme edge reworks but it's not here yet. From my limited use I would recommend the King for the price but you will need some way to resurface it even if that's just a flat rock or brick.
>>
>>2703510
Yea theyre a complete larp. If anybody post an opinel you automatically know they dont use their knives for anything besides (((processing cardboard)))

I mean I have, I like it. It can't keep an edge for longer than this sentence takes to read but its handy.
I have the small investigator one. Definitely the blade I pull out with complete disregard to its cutting edge. I've done dumb shit like opening cans, it'll take it, be just as dull as when it started.
>>
I am once again asking for your financial support

I need a fixed blade knoife that fits in muh pants for self defence in cucked no guns land (which is also no knife land but the time you do is lower), I've seen the extrema ratio requiem, seems thin enough, has handguard although not that big, and dagger type blade, and price is decent, other ones I've seen dont have a real hand guard, or if they have one they're bigass Rambo knives or other ER kifes that cost a fuckton

>>2701963
>lubrication
::)
>>
>>2705727
>>2705838
is this type of knife good for self defense compared to a regular straight one?
>>
>>2705850
It's better for extreme close quarters or getting "away" from someone's hold but that's it. Straight blades are better for distance attack and penetration to kill.
>>
>>2705850
It'll cut a neck. Good for cutting upward/stabbing with off-hand, or cutting across with dominant hand all on the draw. Just creates distance to draw pistol.

Really I just put it on my belt and use it for everything you use a pocket knife for. It's durable and comfortable. Also other anon is right it won't hold an edge if you use it for things like prying bearings open, cutting through cans, etc. But I just pull it through a v-sharpener a few times once or twice a month and it's good to go again.

I'd recommend it for a useful, cheap knife if you don't like folders or like to conceal carry
>>
>>2705849

carved myself a hobo fishing reel using a Condor Bushlore.
It has a good handle for fine work such as whittling but is a little too broad for drilling. The blade is approximately 4" long which feels just right for most uses. At some point I will try to use it to gut a carp that I catch with the reel mentioned above, its pretty nice so far.
>>
>>2706260
It's 1.4116 steel, which is pretty soft for stainless. Some stainless take and hold an edge really well, but often the harder they are the harder they are to sharpen too.
1095 is a cheap soft carbon steel as well for instance, but it makes pretty good chefs knives because it's very easy to sharpen to razor sharp and the toughness isn't as big as a factor if you're chopping vegetables and soft meat.

I've never used a knife labeled 1.4116 but I've got a couple x50crmov15 knives which are supposed to be the same? So it's a budget low/medium carbon steel stainless. They sharpen pretty easy, dull somewhat frequently, great corrosion resistance and they don't chip like something like a vg10/vgmax knife is prone to do.

Does the kydex sheath that comes with the "el chete" have a leather snap?
The strap that keeps the blade in place on the steel clip variation

It has black plastic looking fiber inside and the outer shell is all one piece with no stitching

My buck 119 special got stolen from my truck (I think I forgot to lock the door). I really liked it and thought it was a great knife, Im probably just going to get another one.

I'll look into it, I wouldn't mind the smaller size for most stuff. It looks like I might have to order it online though, all the "Buck" knives I've seen in stores the last few weeks look like cheap China garbage, and don't even come with a leather sheath... Idk what happened, but my first thoughts were that the brand is going downhill

Holy shit Euro bros.
Leatherman finally changed the Euro-legal Bond so that it doesn't slice your hand clean off whilst trying to use the pliers.
The constant lawsuits must have been getting too much for them.

no delicate shit, just a steel blank, a file, a blowtorch/coa fire and bucket of water
the wood is optional here

At some point, the law of diminishing returns will kick in and you are paying significant costs for percentile points in a graph. Consumerism, brand loyalty, and base pride foster blindness to the fact that all you need is modern 1095 or 420.

By the way, I have one of those faggot swedecuck moraknivs that I got for €8 or something. And guess what? It's complete fucking dog shit. Scandi grinds SUCK for anything but whittling sticks like some Rain Man tier retard. Meanwhile my hollow ground chink-made shitvivi in 14C28N is a far, far better knife to the point I don't ever even use the moracuck anymore, not even for opening boxes. It just lies unused in the corner of my gear room. And my Para 2 actually holds an edge for more than 1 deer. Amazing, what an honour to have such ALIEN SPACE TECH in 2024. But I guess I just "DON'T NEED MORE", guise.

anything I should know? I ran it over a whetstone with spit on it and it got sharper but seemed more difficult to sharpen than e.g. a swiss army knife

Dear kings, I'm looking for a cheap fixed blade knife with a handle pattern very similar to this ( bright orange and black ) with a plastic/kydex sheath. However sadly, I cannot find knockoffs for this. Do you guys have any suggestions ? I really want this kind of bright color fake wood pattern. Bonus points for EU shipping.
>>
>>2719354
How cheap? Check out Condors, but you'd have to redo the handle to be orange. Why the specific handle colour?
picunrel.
>>
>>2719799
Autism, I like it and the company colors are black and orange and I'd like it to fit with the rest of my work shit.

Buck bantam in blaze orange, so I don't lose it. I like it. The handle is poly so it's light but durable. It holds its edge well. I've skinned a pig with it. I've made feather sticks with it. I hone it, but haven't needed to sharpen it yet.

It sometimes happen, but you only need it to let it dry so the wood decompress

It's a compromise. I look at them as ideal for travel. They are like a micro toolbox. I wouldn't choose a SAK over a stocked tool bench, but I have spent some time on the road and they travel a lot better than a small tool kit.

I found my leatherman to be pretty handy when I went out last. I used the pliers to move around my hot cook pot. I barely used my bushcraft knife however, in fact I sort of with I brought an ax instead since that chops wood but could also be a hammer for tent pegs since I found out the ground was pretty hard and my shitty aluminium pegs all bent on it.
>>
>>2721553
Never used the pliers on the 111mm model, is it any good or kind of a gimmick?
Kinda thinking if I want pliers, I will just take my leatherman

>>
>>2721356
Thats why an Opinel cost 10 bucks, you cant spect something better. The thing is that they are pretty good knifes for the price. Also, better suited for european continental/mountain weather (like the french or spanish pyrenees), not as wet as the US
>>
>>2703510
They make one called "the outdoor."
It's for rainy camping trips.
There are also coated wood ones.
But pic related is what you wanted.

>>
>>2721943
It already expired in 2016, redditor. Also the mechanism itself was never patented (how could they patent something as simple as a crossbar lock anyway?) only the name.
You are not an expert on knife engineering because you watch jewtube videos.
