>>
>>2713509
This is true. North Georgia and north Alabama are so nice it is a good idea to be secretive. The area is not crowded. It even seems like the US Forest Service follows each states lead by having fewer rules and regulations. Maybe the lower traffic volumes allow the government agencies that maintain these areas to be less restrictive.

I live in Colorado and my favorite states are Idaho and Oregon. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate other areas.

>>
>>2713602
The tech industry is completely dependent on the fed fund rate. The tech industry is a bunch of ponzi schemes that depend on a 0% interest rate to allow malinvestment in the hype cycle humps. All the "hurr durr I make $400k/yr as a web dev" jobs are 100% just ponzi schemes being paid for by retards dumping money into the stocks of the company. Tech produces very little actual market value compared to the hype investments when everybody gets free monopoly money to throw around. The federal reserve *MIGHT* lower the interest rates back to methhead levels again soon. That's when you job hop and ladder climb titles. If you want stability then work for the feds at the FBI or EPA or some other worthless agency. You'll get paid less but you won't be laid off everytime the "market" takes a shit.

>>
I live in NC, and NC grades higher than WV? No way.

NC is split into three distinct parts, the mountains, piedmont/foothills, and coastal plains. The coastal plains are some of the worst /out/ territory around, unless you like swamps (not judging if you do). Hot, flat, wet, sandy, with mosquitos that abduct small children. The mountains are great /out/ territory, and the piedmont is okay. But better than WV? WV is beautiful, and as long as you don't get eaten by a cannibal inbred methbilly, a cool place.

I have to assume many other states have similar divisions.
>>
>>2713951
Is the inbred methhead thing really as big as most people think?
>>
>>2714048

No, not really, but WV is pretty poor, and so is much of Appalachia. Like actual appalling poverty and most people don't realize how bad some parts of it is.
>>
>>2713936
Then why are there tasteful apartments for $1,100 a month?
>>
>>2713951
>you like swamps
Yes I do like hiking cranberry bogs in New Jersey's Pinelands. I feel like swaps are under appreciated. The solitude is so magnificent. Most people have no idea. They think NJ is an urban blight next to NYC. Therefore it is a "1". More solitude for me.
>>
>>2713426

Alaskan here, yes the winters indeed suck, please do not buy proper clothes, please do not come here. Never come here in the summers or any other season either, the mosquitoes and tundra sinkholes will eat you without a trace. It is also actually very ugly. One big meth town. Do NOT come to Alaska.

>>
>>2713951
>The coastal plains are some of the worst /out/ territory around
I have lived in coastal areas and loved them. Fishing and camping from boats is tremendous fun. The key to enjoying /out/ on the southern east coast is to use a boat to get around instead of your car.
It is legitimate /out/ when you use a boat. You just use your boat to get around to the small coastal islands you want to camp on. I also like fishing and enjoy the sunshine also.
People that disregard the inland freshwater lakes, intercoastal waterways and off shore fishing available on the east coast of the US are really missing out.

>how do you handle everything else (you know what I mean)?

>>
>>2713570
The point was that the entire eastern and central US is in fact objectively trash by comparison with most of the western US and most of Canada. The eastern US is overpopulated, over utilized, has industrially polluted water, air and soil (the highest such levels in all of North America) and thin stickly over harvested forests. "But" "muh I know a spot" etc is in fact cope. The fact is that there are better spots even in Europe with similar or greater population densities that have objectively better quality and variety of outdoor environments than the central and eastern US. The chemicals that are in the water are the kind that provably make people infertile and stupid, and it's the same chemicals and pesticides they use in America's food supply, including "healthy" and "organic" labeled stuff. Some of the only remaining non-directly polluted trout and fishing streams and hunting habitats in the US are in the western US and even those are still micro-polluted (still 100-1000x better than eastern and central US fish streams and habitats) from the air (into both the water and soils) from jetstreams flowing from the Pacific and east Asia. Some habitats in the eastern and central US are among the most polluted in the world (at or worse than china tier).

Most of Canada has the same problem central and eastern US does. BC and Banff are the highlights, not the norm.
>>
>>2714665
It's a flat state.
>>
>>2714668
Most of Canada is unpopulated and without heavy industry or agriculture 100km or less from the border, even in the east, and on the actual coasts. The most pristine areas of the eastern coast of North America are in Canada. And the central Canadian plains actually have huge forested regions with monolithic hills and they still have all their native predators and ungulates.

Every single representative climate type on earth besides fully tropical ones. And that's even with the state draining 90% of its swamps and wetlands in the last 130 years. Most of the west is the same, CA, OR, and WA all have temperate rainforest biomes btw (since some assume it's only in WA), while inland UT, ID, and MT and even AZ also have borderline temperate rainforest biomes but only going by local precipitation to evapotranspiration rather than total rainfall as those states top out at about 45-60 inches of annual average max rainfall in places and the usual defined limit is over 65 inches. Even though the actual forest in those other states looks the same as the rainforests in CA and OR and parts of WA, but often only seasonally so.

There's also plenty of public land in state parks and state forest and wildlife management areas and most of all of it is free to access in western MD at least, and the state parks aren't nearly as expensive as VA over the border.
There's in fact tons of public land, no most of it is nothing close to wilderness, but there's some reservoirs you can hike around in NE Maryland, there's Kilgore Falls, there's all the branches of Gunpowder Falls State Park, there's coastal forest which is not usually my cup of tea but some very interesting public beaches can be had in coastal MD you can hike around, and some marshes with gorgeous birds like Blackwater Wildlife Refuge and there's a cypress swamp in coastal maryland. There's some old growth forest scattered around, there's plateau, ridge and valley, piedmont, and coastal plain, and there's actually a lot of county and state owned land, really its the more coastal areas where there's a lot more privatization near the waterline and often more rules/restrictions/hours/fees for coastal maryland parks.

There's also the Appalachian trail and Catoctin and South Mountain and Harper's Ferry. There's nothing truly world class in MD but there's plenty of public land and much of it uncrowded if you don't pick the most popular trails on a weekend, and it's still way better than Texas or the midwest. Plus you can drive to PA/WV/VA and there's tons of stuff in a few hours drive.

We're talking about Cali's /out/ scene and the forestry and land. NorCal in the Jefferson area is absolutely beautiful. Not everything there is a shithole like the Bay Area.

Lmao.

Yeaaahh. Arizona is gay though.
>>
>>2734205
AZ's terrain kills more people outdoors than most states (most as in it bags more bodies in outdoor activities than 47 other states). Top 2 pics were AZ, bottom 2 were NV.

>NY included
Why wouldn't it be?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxuDDYrJZ0U
>>
>>2734207
If you're including a state like NY with only one notable small mountain range, and excluding AZ and NV which have 200+ mountain ranges each and are mostly only explored by thrill seeking wilderness adventure climbers. You've got your priorities mixed up or you were completely ignorant of the fact that NV and AZ are two of the most mountainous states in the US by peak counts and range counts (most of them are either on wilderness or public land, some rarely see humans). Both also tie or beat out NY is winter sports and snowfall records along with ever other western US state minus Hawaii.

Yeah. But Arizona is hella gay though.

>>
>>2734212
90% of its mountains almost never see people except for the extreme adventurer types or the kinds of city fags that end up getting rescued off the mountains and cliffs or end up in the news. Pretty based IMO.

Random example. I know where this is as would most locals, it's in AZ.

You can ice climb all over New York from the Dacks to the Gunks to the Finger Lakes waterfalls. I wouldn't classify most of it as mountaineering though.
Now this video from Gothics' north face shows a proper mountaineering experience and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

They have everything you can imagine and stuff you didn't think possible. That said, I don't hate the east either and the NE is comfy for out whereas some random mid-elevation offtrail hikes I've done in AZ are amazing but I always have to question whether I should go into this ravine or up that cliff because I don't want to end up in the news.
In winter in central and northern AZ, every perennial creek turns into an ice fall, some complete some incomplete like pic related. You could be driving along the Rim in January or February and see crazy ice falls over most of the 100+ mile drive.

You're either a liar or, worse, one of the transplants who've been ruining CA for decades.

That said I wouldn't give it the full 8 either, maybe it deserves it on pure geography etc. but a lot is ruined by overcrowding, traffic, creeping development, regulations, etc.
>>
>>2736843
nta but a transplant from where? Who could possibly be worse?
>>
>>2736844
Usually the Midwest or South. Spend time in CA and you'll realize that the vast majority of stereotypical "Californians" you'll encounter are actual transplants from red states who moved here after getting liberalized in college, and most of the actual locals fucking hate them. People in other states think California is a spawn point endlessly generating retards that flood into the rest of the country when in fact we've just spent 50+ years on the receiving end of the same shit they're just starting to get now, and more often than not the libtards moving from CA to their states are actually people who only spent a few years in CA and are really from other parts of Middle America.

The people I actually grew up with in CA, near LA no less, are almost entirely right wing now, even the ones who were liberals when they were younger have gotten fed up with the crime, the homeless, watching the nice neighborhoods they grew up in become third world slums full of foreigners, all the tranny insanity, etc. The only people really capable of still being full retard leftists of the sort that people associate with California are ones who grew up in sheltered white, right wing environments where everything was theoretical and they really just latched onto the ideology because it was the opposite of what the authority figures in their areas believed.

Laws aside, a lot of California has the problem that the best places are crowded as fuck, take way longer to get to than they should because of morons in RAV4s who've never seen a twisty road and go 15mph up something you should be able to do 55 on, have reservation-only camping that's booked a year out, etc.
