OP here doing an early bump mostly cus I got a question. These are the most striking rocks I found today due to their patterns, are these petrified wood?
It's okay to shatter my expectations I'm just dying to know

absolutely random. certain areas are better than others but i found one of my best on a hillside, on top of moss, just laying there, like it had just fallen out the cliffside a month before.
another exmaple: a point terminated crystal on a random gravel patch on top of a mountain.

Nice rocks, I'm an amateur lapidarist so I'm always out in the woods and streams looking for cool rocks. This is a piece of labradorite that I polished up
>>
>>2743095
you should get a rock tumbler and polish some of those up. maybe not all of them but most of them would be much more interesting and beautiful when they're nice and smooth and have a lustre
>>
Here is another piece I just finished. This I got from a state park in a stream
>>

dang, that labradorite is some cool looking stuff

Don't have pet wood local to me so I'm not really familiar with it but they don't look like pictures I've seen. I could be wrong though.

I think you fellas have a big vein of rhyolite running through the middle of the state, but otherwise just try quartzite
